Network/Graphics Question

So I have been wondering something. I am deployed to Iraq right now with the Army. That being said I have a connection speed of about 0-2Kb a second. I have been wanting to know, since my computer is more than capable of running Guild Wars hardware wise, does my graphics settings in the game affect my internet connection and lag time??

RE: Network/Graphics Question

Pfff well correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that has anything to do with it =] Graphics is purely your PC I think. But not 100% sure ;)

RE: Network/Graphics Question

No, it will have nothing to do with your internet connection, as long as your Laptop's Graphics Processing Unit is capable of running Guild Wars your all fine.

It will be massive lag though, but if you like just sitting in an outpost chatting, thats possible.
(I don't know about the US Army, but make sure about the internet there, don't they secure/check bandwidth usage in the field?)

RE: Network/Graphics Question

The graphics portion of the game are controlled by your computer, internet speed has nothing to do with it.

I've played Guild Wars on a dial-up connection (33.6k, I know, whee fast) and it played just fine, no more lag than on a high speed connection.

From what my limited knowledge is, I understand that there is very little bandwidth used playing the game.

I hope that you'll be able to play it from where you are :-)

RE: Network/Graphics Question

Hey all,

Thanks for all of the great replies. It is bad enough I have such a slow connection, I don't want to have to play it at the lowest setting too! I hope to be able to add to the community with some info and help once I am able to get in game and online more often.
