| Looking for subjects for my second year paper (college) |
|
|
|
Hi
My name is Oscar Aludden and I’m currently studying game development at the college of Skövde in Sweden.
I’m about to write my second year paper and I’ve decided to write about User Interface in GuildWars (ArenaNet).
To do this I need your help and I would greatly appreciate if you could send me a screenshot like this example screenshot http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a342/CodWag/exempel.jpg
The only qualification needed to participate in the study is to have access to a GuildWars account with at least 3 heroes unlocked.
1. Take a character to a town/outpost with party size 8
2. Add 3 hero characters
3. Add 4 henchmen characters
4. move out of town
5. click on Menu->Options and select the Interface tab
6. make the size of the interface window big enough for all checkboxes to be visible
7. move the interface window around so that it’s possible to tell where the visible UI-elements are (yellow text) Do NOT change your current UI layout to do this.
8. Take a Screenshot and either post it here or send it to codwag@gmail.com. Subject should be either PvP or PvE depending on which kind of player you see yourself as. If you are both, please state how much you are of each. If you want me to send the information to you, please add –reply at the end of the subject.
Example of an email subject:
PvE 80-20 PvP -reply
Thanks to all of you in advance and I hope I’ll get some interesting data to share with you.
If you have any questions, I’ll be reading forums and my email more then usually the coming weeks, so just reply here or send me an email ^^
If you want to keep you charactername, build or any other information from me aswell, you can paint it over before sending, as long as I can see where the different UI pieces are located.
//Oscar
· All data will be handled confidentially and only I will ever know about your in game nicknames, emails or other information.
· Your screenshots will be kept but all names will be erased.
· This paper may be printed if my examiners choose to do so. If it is, it’ll be available both in paperback and online.
edit: added the example screenshot

Not exactly
I dont want you to change your current UI layout, so if you have any elements turned off, please leave them turned off :)
what I meant was that all the checkboxes should be visible (so I can tell if the element is visible or not)
thank you for your help, it's greatly appreciated!

Your not gonna find any Widescreen LCD's that are high, they specialize in wide format not height. I'm not sure the main purpose of them... your stuff is gonna look the same on a non wide 15" and a 20" Widescreen its all the resolution that matters, although it prob makes DVD's look good.

You mean by Dvd Xvid/DivX movies with ''reasonable'' downloaded quality that when you get a 22" widescreen they may look bigger, but that also makes the pixels more visible ;P
No, i was just dumbstruck when i was searching for monitors, but maybe i got the sizes wrong, either way, im hoping to get one of those funky Oled displays instead of LCD, depending ofcourse how long this monitor lasts :P

Here's the layout I prefer.. Simple, nice and clean, and all "main parts" just in line of sight..
EDIT:
Pff.. Dialogue 1 is same size as D2 and it's exactly under the D2.. :/

Wow Lani how can you keep track of everything when your hp is on the left bottom and energy on right bottom O.o
Anyway, I also had totaly different lay-out for a while. I had the health & energy bar vertical next to my character, but after a while it annoyed me because it blocked a lot of sight.
Oh and am I the only one that has his chat so big? =P I thought it was handy to make it so big so that you can look back a little easier.

'S simple. It's all about percentages. Actually, due to increased Umph in the grfx department my UI is slightly out of whack. Both bars ought to go all the way to the skill bar.
Note that Health goes behind the menu bar, I know I'm in trouble when I seen neither Red nor Blue in my peripheral vision. And XP bars are the first thing to go on any bar. Who cares about that anyway.
