Let me start off by saying that I have been reading the posts and guides on this site for some time now and have found all information to be very helpful. So thanx to all the people who have made this possible.
Now on to my dilemma. When I first started playing I would get so frustrated about dying that I actually quit playin my character and made another one that I got all the way to level 17 before I picked up where I left off with my first toon, mind you he was level 27. After spending countless hours getting him out of debt, I managed to finally accomplish the level 24 respec mission. This, however, did me no good, as I still made some less than intelligent decisions with my character. But I drove on and managed to get him to level 35. In that time I completed the other respec mission (twice) and Manticores' TF. And now I am completely happy with my choices during the last respec. The problem I seem to be having is that now I find myself laughing whenever I eat pavement. I even had to explain to a teammate why it was funny when I died. I just cant seem to help but smile whenever The Grim Reaper has just knocked on my door. And it doesnt even matter if it was my fault or not. I just can't help but grin. If anybody else feels this way, please let me know.

Death is funny, as long as it's your fault. About the only time I get really upset is when it is somebody else causing it (let's not get into a long thread about death blame, okay?). Laughing when you die shows that you have been playing a while and you realize that debt isn't really that serious an issue. It shows that you have dug your way out more than once, and you will again. And it shows that when things are said and done, COH is JUST A GAME! lol

I've noticed that lately too. It's funny when you do something stupid and get yourself killed.
It helps that I made 50 with one of my toon's and don't feel any self-imposed pressure to level.

When I started playing debt drove me mad and I hated dying. But then I realized you could do options like exemp and the debt would be gone in 30 minutes plus low heroes love having a higher hero work with them. I learned debt is no big deal and now its a minor annoyance. I can still get irked when someone does me in over doing somehing stupid but I shrug it off.
Debt can be nothing when you exemp or up your rep level. In the higher levels you can work the debt pretty fast because your able to take on higher villians and get more xp. Your not the only one out there than shrugs off debt. It takes time to realize its nothing to worry about.

Believe it or not, some players are always in debt and just live with it. I've even been told (by someone who ought to know better) that the game was stacked to keep you in debt. I don't actually laugh at death unless something funny caused it, but I also don't normally worry about it.

Stacked to keep you in debt? I have gone multiple levels without one death. Thats playing defenders, blasters, scrappers, and controllers. You just need to learn your limit and stay within it. Its nice to push the limit occassionally but keep it within reason. The game wasn't stacked to keep you in debt, its more like some people play unreasonably. Debt happens but if you die every mission or more than 5-6 times per level each level then I believe you are doing something wrong.

I think that some of you have missed the point. I laugh at it no matter what. I've been on some crappy teams where other players have caused me to die but I still find myself grining every time I kick the bucket. I've only exemped once to work off any debt and I still level fairly quickly. I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who laughs every time they bite the dust?

Like I stated in mine, I shrug it off but depending on how I die I laugh. Manners of death are what ge3t me going. I was teaming one time and near death. My SG mate tried to TP to safety but just as he did I died. Added to that he TP'd me up (in a rush) and I fell like a brick to the ground. Landed like a pancake. Best DEATH ever.

And like I said, the guy who said it should have known better. His highest is about 25.

Plus, debt isn't THAT hard to get rid of. Exemplar down and run a few missions with a SG mate or friend. Clears your debt problem right up in no time.

I first read this post while I was at work. I thought I agreed with most of the comments until later this evening. None of my SG friends were online, so I decided to play with my neglected Dark Scrapper that I haven't logged in a while. The first time I died, I was okay - a little annoyed, but okay. Then I died a second time (after only 2 shots, I might add). That was about it - I was freaking furious. I had to hold onto my desk to keep from tossing things (I'm relatively volatile anyway, but dying makes it worse). To sum it up, I don't laugh at death or debt. I hate both...No matter the level or reason. Of course, that's just me.

I never did tell ya'll about the time I took my lvl 16 Storm/Energy Def into IP. One of the members of my SG wanted to help get me up to lvl 20 so i could assist him with some missions in Striga. Well, I made the mistake of aggroing a lvl 23 Boss, un-sk'd I might add, and he didnt take too kindly to me. 2 hits later, I was a worthless pile of flesh just chillin. But at least I can say that it took 2 hits instead of 1. Not as squishy as I thought. Alright!

Think I'm with the majority on this, depends on the situation. Last night I was on a mish with my SG and came in mid mission. I proceeded to attack a warhulk they were fighting and when it exploded I hit the floor. I forgot the SG members were higher level and the warhulk was 7 levels above me (numerically not considdering rank). After they rezzed me I said "okay, now that that is out of the way..." Got rezzed had a little laugh and SK'd and life went on.
Incidentally I don't think I got debt on that (at least the bar didnt seem to move), I know you dont get XP with too big of a level difference is that true with debt. I was L44, the highest in the group was L49 and the enemies were L51.

Actually, debt is not so bad. I've certainly had my share (with more to come I'm sure) and it is easily wiped out with 1-2 good missions. It keeps you humble and reminds me just how squishie my blaster can be, no matter how many buffs and enhancements I stick on him.
Now, the time-consuming, tedious trip that is sometimes required back to the mission from the hospital, that is another story....I actually care for that much less than the debt.

Debt is fun, why just last night I got up to 200k debt, this after being outa debt for like 3 lvls. (had a bad day with the AVs) But at lvl 41 it's so easy to get outa debt. Two missions without dying and I was debt free once again. So anymore, when I die I just say well darn, andtell the AV to wait till I get up and then I procede to talk a bunch of crap to the AV while the rest of my team who managed not to get killed kills it. Cuz as much as I wanna get up I don't wanna use a wakey and get killed again. lol

Noone likes to die, but it is a part of the game that like it or not, will eventually happen. So embrace it and enjoy. I've always made jokes to lighten the mood so myself or anyone else doesn't get too angry. As a healer, it is a bad thing for me when someone dies, because it gives people the impression that I am not doing my job. But sometimes you just can't heal fast enough, so you gotta let it go. Remember, it is just a game afterall.

1 thing that i have realized is that once you reach a certain level i can get rid of my 30,000 + debt in a matter of just and hour or less by doing tf's and missions with my SG. I really do think it is hillarious when a blaster thnikns he's all bad when our group whoopsw up on about 20 villans that are a level lower than us then he runs into the next room and there are 2 or 3 bosses and their crews just waiting for their next victim i always get a kick out of that.

Death and debt it is just like real life, nothing is certain in real life except death and taxes.
Aside from that I think no two people know debt better than me and Icetastic, we have a history of teaming with some bad folks and collecting some serious debt. In all our time I would say we have collected an acumulated 2 or three billion in debt. But through it all we still made it, forty something for Ice, 29 myself. It is to be expected to die, debt is just the cost you pay for that nice free hospital trip. Perhaps a Hero HMO is in order to help lower debt costs, I know nothing is more enjoyable than bieng able to help out a lvl 4 when I rack up 60k I usually goto the hollows and help out a hunting party (quickest way to lower debt for me) afterwards I make new friends and have someone I can come back to again if I need help lowering debt, and I also let them come on to one of my missions once in a while. Just yesterday I teamed with a invul/ss tank he was an awsome tank and held his aggro very well, he did such a good job I dropped my 17k I came with to nothing in less than 20mins. So intead of dropping out I did him a favour and got him close to two levels, I was out of debt, but he did such an awsome job I had to help him out more. Perhaps one day I can get him into my SG.

I agree with TheDuce...debt is all part of the game...most of the time I can laugh it off especially when my own stupidity is cause. The only time I getting really peeved is in the Hollows; with a lower lvl it seems I cannot even get to the mish to die without dieing at least once on the way.

I typically try VERY hard to avoid death because my highest level, a blaster, has 45000 and has been unable to get out of debt for over a level now. It started in a very funny (in retrospect) manner. Here's the story...
I was doing the first Respec mission with a bunch of guys, some from my SG, others just available. Did OK the first run through, but someone opened a door that started the core meltdown without telling us, so suddenly it was over. So we did it again, with a slightly different group. Now, we were very careful this time, and were going down a corridor very slowly when POW, one hit and I am dead. No idea where it came from. The healer resurrects me, I look around, and POW, I am dead again. Still can not find the bastridge that shot me. Third time, I am up again, POW and down again. Finally, we spot this dude way up in the rafters. A Boss a couple levels higher than I am (I was a little out of my league with this second team). He killed me a fourth time before I was able to kill him. So finally, on my fifth life, we make it to the final Core room. Heavy combat ensues with masses of people higher level than I am. POW, dead, resurrected, POW, dead, resurrected, POW, dead, and finally we are all dead and the core explodes. I started with 0 debt and ended with 67,500 debt. Maxed out. By the last death, I was hysterical - both with exasperation and humor. I could accrue NO MORE DEBT even if I died 100 more times! That was it! I was at the Debt Limit! Woo-Hoo! I was free to die as often as I wanted! Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe (ok, I will try to control myself again - let me call my psychiatrist)

personally as a tanker, i hate dying, because it is almost always a stupid death....yesterday i go up to a yellow devoured group...a herder, a deathspore, and two geodes or somethin. i'm a stone tanker with granite, so i go in granite, and start nailin the herder, who drops a cairn or tree of life, i forget which. the spore calls up 2 swarms while i'm swinging at this herder who won't go down (must've been tree of life). as granite dude, i am slow, so the swarms slow everything even further...i try to run away, but i'm too slow, as soon as i get out of Aoe of life tree the herder drops another, and i dare not turn off granite cause the spore will put me to sleep...so i'm running in a circle, laughing insanely, using health insp, and catch a breaths...finally they took me down....after several curses and a slam of the pillow next to my laptop, my wife comes in and says "What's wrong??"
A fate worse then death/debt...explaining why you're angry to your wife!!!

you can't count it against the player... w/ my main i've had all three badges for a long while... but Liz is almost always in some sort of debt... i've become used to it, and the only time i get frustrated when i die is when i die a whole bunch of times in one missions (i never die in missions solo only w/ teams).... debt is a part of Liz's life being a squishy blaster w/ full auto, but i wouldn't say i laugh at my deaths, i just don't get really angry and want tot throw things
