| Confused about "stand-alone" |
|
|
|
So, I picked up GW:F today, and I'm currently downloading it... I already had the original game from when I bought it about 2 years ago. I understand that this game has 2 more classes, more lands, spells, yadda yadda..
What I don't really understand is what they mean by it being a "stand-alone" set. Under my assumption, that means you don't need the basic game to DL and play this version... but does that mean I also won't have access to the old lands from the first game? Will I have to create my characters all over again?
If anybody could help me understand, i would really appreciate it!

You can make your own choice:
Add it to your existing account and you can travel between the two campaigns or
make a new account for Faction so you cant travel between them but then you will have more character slots.
hope this helps a bit :P

You are correct, you do not need the first game to play Factions. But if you want, as I think you do, you can merge the two games. So either you have 1 account for Prophecies only and one for Factions only, or you merge them an have one account where you will have both Prophecies and Factions. If you merge them you will keep your old characters, and they can travel to the new areas as well.
So basically what they mean by standalone game is that you do not need any other Guild Wars games to be able to play it.

What Lost said + you can play PvP with skills from both campaigns if you add the key to your account.

I would say the best choice is to add the factions key to your existing account, that way you still got one account and you can have basically everything on one account.

Yeah pretty much what everyone else said. Stand-alone games are games that, well, "stand alone", as in, they don't need any other software to run/play them. which is unlike an expansion, which is software that "expands" on original software. For example, Eye of the North is an expansion to any of the three stand-alone Guild wars campaigns.
Also another (much better :) ) example, would be Diablo II's expansion, Diablo II: LoD(Lord of Destruction) which requires the original Diablo II(which is a stand-alone game) to play!
So to answer your question, yes, if you were to make a new account for factions, you would NOT have access to other campaigns, so a merger is usually the best option.
