I <3 lotr but I never had a chance to give this game a shot. What do you guys think? At this time in the games life...is it worth joining now or should I be looking elsewhere?

Definitely worth joining, especially if you enjoy LotR from a lore perspective (watched films, read books etc.) as the game is full of areas where you can really immerse yourself in middle earth. Graphics, outstanding; questing, brilliant; community, mature and still fun; gameplay, outstanding.
In terms of game development, there's continuous updating, more and more payers joining and hopes of a paid expansion before the year's out.

I actually loved playing LOTRO, I enjoyed the lore, the environment and the characters. I had to leave due to my computer (at that time I destroyed it...oops) but just recently got a huge upgrade in PCs. I have been strongly considering re-subscribing and getting my Burglar levels maxed out.
This game has some very cool features and was one of the few games in the past year to give WoW a little bit of run at. The players from what I had/have seen are very dedicated and very helpful lot. I definitely suggest giving it a try.

Yes, yes, come back to LotRO! There's loads of new updates you'll enjoy, did you hear about the expansion pack announcement?

I bought the lifetime subion when the game was first released, but haven't played in a long time as I was playing WoW. Since I can no longer afford that I've come back to LOTRO and it is exc excellent.
The community is a strong as ever. There are many ways to customise your character from choosing what aparel you want displayed, being able to dye your clothes different colours. You can write your characters bio and specify which generation your character's from as well as earn and select different titles to display.
Currently I am leofanwen, fur cutter. LOL. For killing wolves. Spider foe, for killing spiders etc.
You can also buy houses, I am getting ready to buy my first house. Looking forward to it a great deal too.
The quests are many and varied, from delivering mail and dodging nosey hobbits, saving people, fetching stuff, putting out fires, slaying beasts. I like how you can get right into the main story line too and interact with main characters rfom the books and films. It has been done very cleverly indeed. You an be a part of he story without ruining it.
