i now quited guild wars for 3 months(i know, a live time :P), because various reasons. there was nothing new anymore for me, everytime i wanted to do something cool and new in EotN my computer crashed because me computer couldn't handle the graphics and my grades sucked. now i got a solution.
my mom has a new friend for a year and a bit. and we're moving. and she told me i could make/choose/pick a computer for around 1200 euros(with windows included). so that i can play GW with ease at high and GW 2 probbably to :D. but now here is the problem: dell and alienware(god they're cool(the alienware i mean)) are way overpriced, so i want to make a computer. but i don't really know good sites for parts etc. (i'm like the worst googler ever). so please help me out!
grtz
ps: my grades are like the best of the class now ^.~
pps: i will also get back to gw when i have my new computer :D :P

I don't know where you live, but if it's in the Netherlands or Belgium, Alternate is a good place to look.
Warior Princes Xena: Warrior lvl 20
Kamiko Princess: Elementalist lvl 20
Princes Adirill: Monk lvl 20
Il Little Ritu Il: Ritualist lvl 20

Studies show that 92% of teens listens to rap. If you are of the 8% that listens to real music then add this to your signature.

I got the PM,
You've got 1200 euro's to spend, that's alot. Pre-Built rigs are always more expensive, sometimes even overpriced, before i go searching i will ask some questions:
- Any components you keep from the old computer? Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Perhaps even the DvD Drive?
- Any preferred Pc-Casings you might like? Considering you said Alienware looks awesome, i can always also look for a casing above-average, keep in mind though, the only times you probably look at your PC-Case are:
When Turning it On.
When Windows errors appear.
To see flames coming out.
So not too much attention paid to it, UNLESS you go to LAN-parties or something with that thing, i doubt many people will see it :P

:D oh thats nice to hear. I have an alienware atm but it was made by my dad. He currently works for this place that is sponsored by nasa, so he gets free parts for computers.
Anyways, when my friend asked me the same question so he can play games on his computer, i would recommend just getting a Dell computer, but not any ordinary dell. You can customly make your own and choose parts for how you want your computer to run.
You can tell them you are using it for a gaming system and they will pick the best parts for you through the phone or internet and they will even tell you how much and what the difference of each part is.
Dells Webpage ~ check that out. :D

I love hints & tips given, but you didn't read the first post apparantly, he already agrees Dell's & Alienwares are overpriced, hence he wants to assemble his own Computer.
Im not saying you shouldnt be using them, im just saying this isn't rocket science anymore, all you need is a screwdriver, the manuals provided (if you got Experience you don't need them), and that's it.

I advice waiting/getting something from the Geforce 9 series.
+/- 200 for 111fps when the 8800 only gets 79 hell yeah!!
And from personal experience I'm very satisfied with AMD Athlon.
Just my opinion, could of course be wrong (or different!!).

Next week or so the 9600GT is released, mind you, instead of releasing a card that will blow away others, they released a mid-budget card first, which is the 9600GT. Its inferior to the 8800GT or higher.
The newer cards, Including the 9800GX2 (Dual Cores), will be released the coming months, which is this monster:
http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidias-gef...800-gx2/680692/
Still, this is the Electronic world, What's new Today is obsolete Tommorow, so at one point you just have to go for it, because believe me, just wait another 2 months after the 9800GX2 and you'll find a newer card, and then anothe-
You get the idea i suppose,
Edit: The Expected release date is March 11 for the 9800GX2.

My friend fixed up his own computer from dell and he had it for almost 3 years now. Still working great.
but this is just my idea. u dont have to listen to it. just advising. :D okie dokie. peace and GL!

i get a new computer because my mother wants to have this one for the work room(wwoo, big house FTW), and the only thing i keep is the monitor and the 5.1 surround system(not the soundcard) from dell. rest i need everything.
i don't need any special casing, because aas you stated you never look at it anyways(except if it's next to your monitor).
grtz
ps: if i got money left a cool looking case is prefered, but a midi tower or big tower that wont cost much are prefered.

Ok, il start making a specs list,
Im going for Intel because of the money you have, and because this month alot of things have happened regarding price discounts and such that might turn into your favor. Dinnertime now though, but expect a full Components list in 2-3 hours.
Edit:
just had a look fast, you like this perhaps for casing?

I was typing halfway when i clicked the wrong thing and lost my list, luckily i still had open the tabs of things, anyways, im trying to retype most :P
Casing:
Xilence Xase X2, Black/Silver
49,33 = 49
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...09/xase-x2.html
A casing that you might like, i spotted another one but sadly they couldn't give any guarantees when they might have it again, could be a month, could even be more.
The bonus is this casing does not come with a Power Supply, meaning we save some cash on a (no offense) often low-quality PSU, we want a real one RAWR.
Motherboard:
GigaByte GA-EX38-DS5,Retail
181,81 = 182
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...a-ex38-ds5.html
One of the best Motherboards around, provides full support for the CPU im going to advice, 7.1 built-in surround sound, DDR2 800Mhz ram support (up to 8GB's), and all the gaming performance you demand.
Processor/CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo,Boxed, E8400, Socket 775
183,61 = 184
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...core-2-duo.html
The Price Performance Ratio for this CPU is the best in this Series, you pay 80 euro's more for an increase of a meager 100Mhz, making this CPU an excellent choice, saying so, an aftermarket cooler could easily make this baby hit alot higher speeds while saving money aswell.
Random Access Memory/RAM:
Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5,4096MB, DDR2, PC6400, 800MHz, (2x)
88,42 = 88
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...096-6400c5.html
Two high quality RAM chips, both running at the fastest speed, giving you 2x 2GB, meaning you get a total of 4Gigabyte of RAM.
Keeping the future in mind, it is even possible to later on add another set giving you a total of 8 Gigabytes of RAM, though im very certain by the time you need that much RAM for games, your system is in dire need of a new upgrade aswell!
Power Supply:
Antec NeoPower 650 Blue,Retail, 650Watt
110,31 = 110
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...r-650-blue.html
The Antec NeoPower series is known as a high-quality Power Supply, 650 Watts is easily enough to provide for a gaming system. It comes with plugs, meaning you can leave the cables out you dont need, meaning its saves you from cramming all the excess cables into a corner in your PC. Which in turn is good for airflow.
As an added bonus its fan apparantly is equipped with a Blue Led-light, meaning your PC case will have blue light coming out from the back :P
DvD Drive:
Plextor PX-800A DVD-ReWriter Black
54,88 = 55
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...iter-black.html
Im not too wise around the DvD thingies, but im quite sure this DvD Writer/Reader suffices for your PC, it can burn & read at high speeds making copying DvD's if needed, not an hours work but only minutes.
I paid some attention to the color, this one is black so it will fit more with the casing.
This brings us to: (i like this number)
668
Halfway on the budget now, and we're seeing a nice Gaming System appear, let's move on, so far i can see we still need things, especially what will satiate your gaming desires, a Graphics Card!
Hard Drives:
Samsung SpinPoint F1,7200RPM, SATA II, 32MB, 750GB
116,05 = 116
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...inpoint-f1.html
Currently one of the better Hard Drives, it features 32MB Cache, very fast read/write rates (a nice competitor against Western Digitals Raptor, which is a few %'s faster, but only has a meager 74GB)
The price Performance once again is excellent, and with 750GB at your disposal you can store ALOT.
One word of advice, if possible, make Multiple partitions, in the case something goes wrong you can always have this as a handy backup, Make a 30-40GB Windows-only partition, and perhaps a ''Games'' ''Movies'' Partition, so you got your files nice and secure, for when Windows has to be reset, you only have to format the Windows Partition, keeping your Games!
OPTIONAL: Cooler
Zalman CNPS9700 LED
56,26 = 56
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...ps9700-led.html
One of the best CPU Coolers around, this one is compatible for your CPU, although it isn't a requirement, stock cooling has the tendency to make noise, plus if you ever want to revv up your CPU, you will find Stock Cooling has its limits, This Cooler is made out of copper completely which is the best heat-absorbing material available.
Keyboard:
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard, black
74,03 = 74
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...g-keyboard.html
OH CMON, a proper gamer knows that the quality of the weapon's he wields is where the frags come from, so dont go with anything less then Logitechs G15 Gaming Keyboard, comes with Blue Backlights and an built-in LCD for displaying all kinds of things, you can make your own, or download additional things, including MSN.
Also Available:
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...-gamepanel.html
Series #2, this one has a Orange backlight and the LCD is smaller, also it features less macro key's and is basicly (my brother has it), smaller then the original G15, however, the *old* G15 had its problems. Mainly being that those of us with rather sweaty fingers will notice some of the black paint of the key's will dissapear, making the key transparent blue, which is fixed with the newer series.
However, i have the old G15 for a straight 6 months now, and i haven't noticed any problems whatsoever myself. Still, your choice which one you want :)
Mouse:
Mouses are a thing of taste, how big one's hands are, and what one person desires.
I can only give you this list:
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/zoek/?PAGIN...RTERING=pr_desc
Razer has pretty good Mouses, Logitech also competes, Razer's mouses are for both right & left handed people, while Logitech makes mouses for right-handed people, often a bit more comfortable. Razer Mouses also are often more ''pimped'' with Flashing LED's and fancy gizmo's (such as built-in memory to save gaming profiles)
I have a Razer myself, but i have also seen Logitechs, their very very close to eachother, so close it comes totally down to what you like, so choose from the list i gave you, and just say which one, and i can see what i can find about it :)
Graphics Card:
Asus EAH3870X2/G/3DHTI/1G,1024MB, DDR3, PCI Express x16
384,66 = 385
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det...g-3dhti-1g.html
ATi's latest big boy to roll out of the Factory, determined to beat Nvidia this card is heads on with the 8800 Ultra from Nvidia, depending on games they beat eachother, in Company of Heroes (RTS), ATi's card beats the ultra, but in Crysis, the 8800 Ultra beats the ATi card, so it comes down to the graphics engine the game uses to which card has the upper hand.
The only con's are the high price (though still reasonable for 2 cores), and its power consumption, hitting 220 Watts under full load.
You can in the future buy another card, and put them in Crossfire, meaning you got a total of 4 Graphics Cores to work out your Pixel Processing Desires, Hot D*mn, literally, as you can most likely fry a hot-dog in your PC.
Graphics Card:
Asus EN8800GTX, 768 MB, GDDR3, PCI Express x16
335,03
http://www.azerty.nl/producten/product_det.../en8800gtx.html
Nvidia has released one of the best known Graphic Card series there is today, the 8800 Series, Pure Performance, Raw Power, these cards do what you want them to do, GAME. Although ATi's dualcore card beats this Card by a minor fraction, the power consumption is less, plus this card has 768MB for just one core, instead of 512MB texture space for two, meaning you can basicly store several game maps on it and have no problems at all.
Still, a new card is underway from Nvidia's secret Test Facilities, the 9800GX2, featuring, yes, thats right, X2 Dual Cores, however, this is highly out of order as the price will be massive, so let's stick with this, and maybe someday in the future, you can buy that monster (by then you got 4 cores, thats the story here *roll eyes*)
Tip: Under Windows XP, its better to use Crossfire for ATi cards, then using SLi for Nvidia Cards, however, if you switch to Vista, SLi is just as fast as Crossfire.
Both cards bring you around the max of your budget, 1200, along with perhaps a tenner in shipping costs, i think i got everything covered.

http://www.daileyint.com/build/ibuild3.htm
some things to consider when putting in your cpu... well actually in practice the motherbord manufacturer will supply a good guide on how to install the cpu and each part will come with simple instructions it might take you a bit of time to put together I usually spend a day taking my time. Tho I have build computers in a matter of a couple of hours.
here is another nice guide
http://www.pcguide.com/byop/
oh oh oh important edit make sure you are connected to earth or grounded some how so you aren't charged up with static. perhaps with a radiator or make a grounding plug by connecting a wire to the earth pin on a normal 3 pin plug and wrapping the wire around your wrist. static damage can be a bit of a heart ache.

I can't somehow access the actual GW's on GameAmp, but through the default GameAmp page i can.
Anyways, yes, you can easily build it yourself, just ask the others i've helped, most of them are soon getting their systems if they ordered them already, all you need is a screwdriver, the screws are supplied with the case, and basicly the whole thing is like ''insert this here, insert that there'', remember, just put things in gently, if they wont fit, dont start bashing.
Most things are obvious,
PSU Inserted via the back.
DvD Inserted in the front, probably have to remove a plastic slot from the case (very easy)
Motherboard fits on 6 pins where you can put screws in, recommend ofcourse placing the Casing sideways on the ground.
CPU slides into place on the motherboard (read manual)
Videocard, RAM, all stated in the Motherboards Manual, says exactly which slot does what:
Videocard in PCI-E 16x Slot (the closest one to the CPU)
RAM in the ram slots, with the pins that hold them in place.
Hard Drive in the holders beneath the DvD drivebay.
The only difficulty you might have is fiddling with the backside, when fitting in the motherboard you usually get a thin metal strip where all the ports poke through, sometimes it doesnt exactly fit nicely with PC casings, just bend it a bit or see what you do with it, i couldn't be bothered so i didnt use it, for me no problem as the hot air blows out from there so its not really that dust-dangerous.
Still, basicly its a Click N' Play system, when everything is in it, just connect the power cables and turn the PSU on, wait 5 seconds for the power to ''charge'' in the PSU, and hit the On Button.
Voila, now it will probably just go through the Bios and with your windows CD installing can begin :)
A PC IS BORN :P
The most likely experience possible that might happen is that it might not boot first, just use on RAM chip first, mine acted all ridiculous, so i removed one RAM chip, then it went running, after windows was installed, i just put in the other RAM chip and it worked.
Though your motherboard is even NEWER then mine, so who knows, maybe i had a bug :)

Just touch any unpainted side of the PC casing (the inside), works sufficiently enough, i've constructed quite a few PC's, haven't had static problems, i can go as far to say i once spilled lemonade (yes, bad, wont happen again) on the motherboard, and it still worked, well, i had to remove it because it got smelly, but uhhhhh, it will work! :P
