Talentless

Look, I know no one asked me because they don’t care about my opinion, but I’m so sick of all these pve only skills.
I’m a casual player, that’s what guildwars catered too. I liked it.
You never really could be a casual player and be really into PvP like GvG and HA, im not going to pretend that you could.
But, I CAN say that being a casual player prevents me from getting to do most PvP

Now, it’s preventing me from doing PvE too.

No, I don’t buy every expansion that comes out, that money, RL money. I don’t need them, but I guess I do if I want to keep playing. I’ve very competent at my class
(warrior or para) and can fill my role in the party perfectly.

Sometimes I would get slightly discriminated against if I didn’t run meta, but usually with those classes people don’t care as long as you don’t cause problems, I could like with that.

But now, because I can’t turn into a bear, I can’t find a FoW group.
Yeah makes sense.
So, now I have to buy an expansion I don’t want, with crappy reskinned armor. And GRIND to get these titles. Since when is GW about grinding? How many builds have you seen with very little to do with their actual profession? Like an Ebon Kurzick Dwarf, Ursan Mesmer.

These Title skills are eliminating the functions that you needed actual CLASSED players for. Hi don’t need talent or skill because im a drunk delidimore.

They just swung the nerf bat again at some skills for PvP, just like they’ve done before and they’ll do again. How about we nerf these dumb PvE skills by getting rid of them.

Or how about this? If you gain “x” amount of experience from using PvE only skills you get the title “Talentless”

Assuming your talking about ursan blessing.
there have been complaints about this skill non stop since release of Eotn if they wanted to nerf it , it would have been nerfed already?

I got to agree on this.
I never bought eotn, It didn't add anything to the game for me, only had down sides. GW has changed from doing storylines and missions with other people to a how I call it 'Solo MMORPG'. With this I mean the game is a MMORPG but everyone plays it alone. Hero's basically ruined most of the game for me when NF got released. I didn't have NF the first 6 months, and got bothered that everyone told me to hero/hench missions instead of them helping me, I liked GW because of the fact you could experience the same world with friends. That was taken away and got replaced by some ugly looking CNPC's (controlable NPC's).

Then they came up with the Idea with PvE skills, hugely overpowered skills that could be used to complete the most difficult areas with ease. Combine that with hero's, the game went so easy that it almost got boring.. so hey! lets introduce HM! the come of hardmode made the economy crash, introduced more titles to grind to keep people busy..

That title grinding was to keep people busy till the come of GW2 I guess.. so EotN was made for that reason aswell.

EotN added even more PvE skills, more hero's, and the worst part of the entire game. Ursan blessing. Ursan even removed the last espect of guildwars. Skills.

Why insert hundreds of skills in a game while everyone only wants to use ursan anyway? Besides monks then, ok.

Too me it looks like Anet doesn't want people to enjoy company of other people, they rather want to change MMORPG into MSORPG (Massive Solo online role playing game.

This ain't the reasons while I left Guild Wars, that was social life. But this seriously made me step away from GW much easier.

Thats all I want to say for now. again, I agree with you futureman. +10 cred

Or maybe, he wants to have the same fun he used to have. However, since these garbage, no skill, PvE "skills" are a requirement, now, he can't even get in a group.

I Think I know where your coming from playing as a necro I don't get to play the skills I have spent my time learning to love and it almost driven me to pvp but then...
no I don't get to use the majority of skills there either.
Its run with spike or don't run, so I don't run screw em all into the ground.
The old core players wont look at a necro in terms of its place in the meta, and the rest only interested in one skill.
nope I want to play a build I help make even if I'm not that smart.
Yeah sure I'm stubborn and maybe I have allot to learn but I feel what I have learned is being funnelled into "your a warrior or your a monk"
Perhaps it makes life easy on skill balance if they just had the two classes (damage and negate damage).

I'm sure my post will get breezed over/ignored or the thread will die rather than accept this is what a human being could possibly think. I've said it in little suggestive comments about my feelings for the state of the game, but you hit the nail on the head for me with Ursan=lame imo.
Sry warriors I don't want to be such a jerk towards your profession because I actually love warrior, but I don't want the game to become warrior wars in pvp AND pve (pvp I can live with).

I got tired of the whining in towns. You have to use this to play with us. You have to have that if you want to do this mish. Yeah, and? Don't like it do yourself.

I think pvp/pve skills should be separated so pvp "adjustments" don't affect pve and visa versa. The moment they adjust Ursan you will get a lot of people complaining about that. I don't like the back and forth ether so instead of sitting myself in a town waiting for a party to take me. I grab my henchmen/heros and do it myself. For the most part I move faster then full player group. Oh well, what can you do besides complain until they change it then more people will complain because they changed it.

Apparently he's not having fun anymore. He's saying he wants to have fun, but can't because of these skills. I agree with Shawnus, if you're that angry about something and it's not gonna change just stop.

Its the rant and rave section people are supposed to be irrational and childish jk. however if you don't like something a little bit you might want to try changing it before you throw it out. I paid money for it and however little my opinion about it may seem to matter If I stay quiet about it then I lose over and over.

Kinda like saying well if you don't like the way your country is run leave don't go trying to vote on another party. However small the gripes are about something its important to complain sometimes. not on the same scale but the suffragetts and civil rights movement complained over the long haul consessions are made to those who are not happy with something if they say they are not happy.
I think: hard mode was a response to people who complained that the game was too easy. ursan was in response to people complaining that the game was too hard in hard mode. every change to the game the developers are thinking of the guild wars community and comments from the guild wars community.

if they just rode rough shot over opinions they wouldn't have 5 million units sold. However as predicted i think my post has been breezed over and this will be too.

hey wow!
guys this is rant so im not trying to ofend anyone, but i just want to clarify this.

i DO enjoy the game still.

i actually did get a pug for fow the other night and i took a Me/N who was SS

and she couldn't stop thanking me because it was so hard for her to find a group.

you know what? she was REALLY good,

our monk? his elite was healing hands.

some ranger with a Barrage random build, and our group was REALLY good. We crushed, probably best group ive been in a while.

My point is, and someone else said it too, peolpe will only take you if your THIS or use THIS skill. But i love guildwars because you really can get by with a lil creativity and a makeshift party.
Let people use their individual builds.
I don't know who comes up with these teams, but chances are
YOU AREN'T THAT PERSON, so use what you think is good. Not what someone tells you

see, this is where i disagree.

2 nights ago, i was looking for a PUG to do Raisu Palace in HM. I got into a group, they didnt ask me to go Ursan, the didnt ask me what build i was running, they just asked, 'do you want hard mode?'.

I ran a crazy AoE fire build that wasnt SF, had no pve skills, and we smashed it. We had 5/8 people, the rest heroes. we did it in 17 mins, and we then went on to do arborstone and sunjiang. each one we did with ease, masters first time. Which is why i love to PUG sometimes. But then i can always ask the guild, who i know are more than happy to help me.

And it really made me think, that this is why GW is great. Because you have choice. And why its called Guild Wars, because it concentrates around guilds. maybe more so for pvp, but for pve, if i dont run ursanway when our guild goes on an outing, i dont get kicked, and i dont get asked to change. We all smile, equip our asses and we go. And 9/10 we are successful.

And as future said, he got a PUG for FoW, and it was fantastic. Which is exactly why i love the game even more.

Because there is so much choice, builds are being invented and re invented everyday. So whats to say that someone cant invent a new build that beats an old one? When someone made the first ever 55 build, people probably laughed, but now its one of the most famous builds in the game. People would assume that a 55 was the only way a monk could farm. Then the 600 comes up. and yet again, all it took was 1 person to look at the skills they had and try something new.

If your willing to be defeated and just give up, thats fair enough. or you can look at the skills you have and think of ways to kick some ass. as much as i love wiki for intricate detailed facts on the game, it has made 90% of the gw community brainless.

and as far as ursanway goes, i love it, because sometimes i just feel like running in and making stuff die. and sometimes i feel like standing back and nuking, or playing a warder etc. but i guess i'm just lucky being in a guild that likes to try new things.

just remember that perseverance is key, as future clearly found out...

really annoying this...was in a party for FoW once, dervish asked me to ping build and i did that. got kicked because i didnt use Arcane Echo as ele...think he never played with an ele before...

but about the PvE only skills, imo Ursan is pretty lame, ppl dont take time to get a good group anymore and i dont like that. I see high end things like this now: Get rank 9 norn and join us! ow yeah, we also need 2 healers! 3/8...self invite(or something like that)
but tbh, some PvE only skills are good and i use them, but ursan is lame in my eyes...

I'm really sorry to dissapoint a few people here, but i never use PvE only skills. i can get along fine with my own builds. if i completed prophecies with normal skills, i also can do that in factions/NF/eotn.
oh and btw, i like wiki :D
not for builds, only for information about builds. So if it says; echo is good for this.
then i'll learn from that and can use it for other things.

Woohooo an Ursan thread! Gotta love them :-) Quite surprised there havent been more here at GA .

Ursan and all the other PvE skills the OP is absolutely right about they introduced a grind fest into the game which simply wasnt there before EotN except for the small annoyance of LB and SP in Nightfall.

Sadly the cookie cutter majority will adapt and we see areas that demand you have r10 Norn if you want to get into a PuG - is it any better than demanding that as an Ele I should play SF? Nope, SF is just as repetative and button mashing as Ursan IMO. Theres the advantages and disadvantages, specificaly with so called 'elite' areas, sure mesmers can get into groups now but not as a mesmer only as a pretend warrior, so what was the use of mastering your class when grind and a ready made skillbar takes that all away?

GW was always marketed as the game without grind, skill was supposed to prevail over that, seems for PvE they had a change of heart. Now don't get me wrong I have a whole lot of fun pretending to be a warrior with my Necro BUT I vanquished the whole of Cantha with H/H and an Icy Veins build which is just as fast as the vanquishing Im doing now in Elona with H/H as Ursan, Ursan just gives me another excuse to get a new uber looking armor and weapon combo together :)

The OP has a very valid point WTH should a casual player be forced into playing in isolation because they dont want to grind or buy an expansion they dont want ? (although I think your missing out on alot of fun with EotN - great scenery and fun dungeons).

It does worry me this is the shape of skills to come in GW2, See this thread.

I think to a degree there has always been this aspect in PUGs, even before PvE skills (just ask any necro who didn't feel like being an MM, they often got the boot). People learn one build that works, and think its the be-all-end-all and they'll fail without it.

I suppose its part of the reason I don't PUG. Well, that, and that usually the others end up being incredibly immature and end up trying my patience. Guilds are best if you get in a good one. ^ ^

i understand what your saying.

i get SO ticked off when , for example, people don't let me in a group because i'm a paragon.

if paragons don't get groups how are they meant to play through the game?

but on a side note, without ursan blessing i would have never got my tormented shield...ursanway doa quad run ftw!

I must agree with Future Man on this one.

Ursan Blessing build sure kills mobs fast, but it also kills players' creativity even faster.

I tried the build and didn't like it at all. I mean it turns me into a uber leet fast killing machine, but it also turns me into a f-ing robot.

What's the fun with this build? None. Where's the thinking, planning, strategy? Gone.

You just sit there, pressing TAB->1->2->1->2->TAB->1->2->1->2->TAB->1->2->1->2->loot->gg
while watching the news and holding a pizza with one hand.

Personal opinion:

Ursan build is so great at killing, it even kills the game itself.

Ursan blessing doesn't need to be nerfed. Every class can play elite area's now. The real problem is that people only want money, and no fun. They want you to be rank 10 and rank 8 for DoA.

Pre EoTN it was almost impossible to get into elite area teams (FoW, UW, DoA, Deep, Urgoz) with any class outside the CC builds...did you ever try to get a Sin into a FoW team? Or a Mesmer...or an anything that didn't fit the - 2 Monks, 1 Tank, 1 SS, 2 Nukers & 2 Barragers - wikified builds!

People don't like to think and Ursan helps them with that... - 6 Ursan, 2 Monks - is way easier to handle than a balanced team.

I don't really like Ursan but I see it's merits and I'll play it for a HM run, luckily the guild gives me the choice where as pugs don't.

Anyway I'm off to DoA to get me some gems.....wonder what I'll play....?

i only ever botherd with one PvE skill and that was whirlwind assault. makes being a warrior a little easier. yea i never bother with this build or that build. im perfectly happy coming up with my own builds that half the time even work or come damn close. i almost managed to make a warrior smiter for UW. didnt make it though. it failed. ive only completed one campaighn with one char cuz the heros are boring to play with and nobody in missions ever wants to join other people much now.

i completed prophecies thats it.

I read your post as I generally read all the posts in a topic but haven't commented cause most have said how I feel. I don't use the new PvE skills mainly cause I haven't bothered with getting a high rank in those titles.

Now when it comes to heroes I disagree with Anet making it a solo game when it was that way for me long ago as so many more stated by people only allowing certain builds to join their teams. I done all of Prophecies with henchies because of that. The gamers themselves made it more solo for not allowing people to be themselves and play what they like but instead they only let them play if it was a cc build they knew or seen work.

I'm for the most part one of the solo people mainly not because of heroes I was doing it with henchies long before but because of other gamers. I play with guildies when they are on but 90% of the time being I'm a casual player and my times I play are a bit random I play alone with H/H.

So for the most part Ursan doesn't bother me as I don't PUG but I'd hate to see GW2 do their skills that way unless they are going to accommodate for those that people wont let in their group. I agree with EG. I also agree with the OP for the most part I mean if we are going to use the same skills why not just buy the same armor and be just alike.

I'm neither here nor there but everywhere. I am who I am and nothing more but yet I'm nothing less than what I strive to be.

I think what you mean is your upset that you can't join many groups you used to before EoTN and NF because they introduced PvE Only skills and now only groups will take ursan only people. I think its BS to not allow someone in their group because they don't have a pve skill or something. But i dunno good luck.

Your posts didn't get overlooked by me :)

I'm a terrible build-maker but I always try to get skills that work with what I'm fighting against. I always have a hard time getting into PuGs because I dont have the right skills, but I have similar skills that will work, so I get kicked. A rare time, I will get a "wow, nice build" and I can continue with the mission or quest.

Furutreman:
I am fed up with alot of people saying one can't be in a group because of no ursan or similar. That is why I mainly hero/hench stuff and its not that fun because I don't get the interaction between different people.

Now, I am used to playing by myself and I go at my own pace, no one to blame but myself, and I'm fine with that.

I kinda agree with all you guys, ursan is nice to get out of a hard place, but stinks when one wants to have fun and cant because one wont use ursan.
