| Thinking about coming back |
|
|
|
I've played CoX on and off for about a year now, and I'm thinking about coming back. The only problem that I have is that each character begins to get boring after a while, and that the gameplay is very repetitive.
I know that they update the game very often, but have they added anything to remedy this?

Well imho the only game worth play is coh soo yeah i would come back they've added more stuff and a "flashback" thing for 50's to redo stuff they've missed so...if you do come back gameamp is here for ya' and even if you dont maybe someother time.

This is pure my opinion, so I could be completely wrong, and this might very well not apply to you, but I suspect you will still find the game boring and repetitive.
The best way to level in COH is to get on a big team, preferable 8 players, and jump from mission to mission. It is the most effective leveling scheme. But if I do that for more than 2 or 3 hours even I am already getting bored. It is mostly button pressing and wailing through similar looking warehouses and caves. And they have done nothing to improve on that.
However, I am playing the game for 3 years now, and I am still enjoying it every day. The charm on COH (and COV) is not in leveling your character quickly and go for endgame content like WOW. It is about enjoy your creations. That's why so many long time COH players are serious alt-o-holics.
It starts off with creating a character you can get excited about. It is not just about throwing together some spandex, but really creating a character. Once actively playing it is not about getting to 50 as soon as possible. It is about enjoying the great stories that are weaved in the game. And in that area they have really added a lot of cool stuff. Faultline, Croatoa, Rikti War Zone. But even oldies like full the Hollows arc, Striga, PI Preatorians are a joy to live through. And I haven't even started on the even cooler villains side.
COH is indeed a dull game for a big team xp cruncher, but then again even if that is your thing for $15 you will still have plenty of fun for a month.

Unfortunately, there's not really any decent new content for people under 20. Something they SERIOUSLY need to work on for replay value. Although I've been playing for over 3 years, there are times that those low level grinds can be REAL boring. There is the "new" Faultline, which has some cool stories and stuff, but that's it.
What I've generally done recently, with lowbies, is grind through the first 20 levels using Scanner missions. Get some big teams and have fun with them. After level 20, head over to Talos Island and get your contacts there. Do your L20ish Story Arcs and actually read the content, it's pretty cool stuff. At this point, you can also do Striga. I avoid IP because of travel times. The place is just way too big.
When you get to 25-30ish, do the Croatoa story arcs. Very cool stuff and it opens up the Katie Hannon Task Force, which is fast, fun and has good rewards.
Move along to Brickstown and Founders Falls contacts at 30 until 40 and then you're on to Perigrine Island for the final run. If you want something different, hit the Shadow Shard too. It's older content, but not a lot of people do it. Personally, I've never been.

One thing that i was thinking about is that there was a fire in my house a couple of months ago, (somehow my alienware computer survived, thank god) but my coh/cov download disk completely melted in the fire. This means that i would have no way to download the client.
is there any way for me to download it without the game disk?

It sounds like this will change with the next issue and the Hollows revamp.
I'm an incurable altoholic, but most recently I've played as these characters:
Abana (hero, Champion), lvl 40 mag tanker, stone/stone/fit
Souleymane (hero, Champion), lvl 14 mag defender, dark/psy
Saffron Bow (hero, Triumph), lvl 8 nat blaster, arch/dev
Cessair mac Bith (hero, Virtue), lvl 12 mag scrapper, broadsword/invuln
Etain Echraide (hero, Virtue), lvl 21 mag controller, plant/therm

If you log into your plaync account and into your COH game controls there is a link to download the client. Once you run that it will download the whole game for you.

It'll take a while to download the whole thing, but on the plus side, once it's all downloaded, if you have a DVD Burner, burn the whole City of Heroes folder (C:/Program Files/City of Heroes usually) to a DVD and you'll at least have the updated client up until now.
If you don't have a DVD Burner but you DO have a CD Writer, burn the COHUpdater.exe file to a CD. That's the install file. Just launch that on any PC and it will download the client for you.

Not sure how they do a "free weekend" on something that you pay for by the month, but they do have Double XP weekends that are more like 4x XP weekends when you're fighting Freak Show dudes.

I remember accounts being reactivated for a weekend or event before, or even a new issue release, but only for a couple days or so. but that's not a guaranteed thing nor is it reliable.
