Hey guys, thinking about buying guild wars and just wondering one thing. How do you obtain your items ie weapons and armors in the game through pve? and do the weapons and armors add stats to you like in wow? like + strength etc also is there like boss monsters where people need to group up to defeat and as a result will get "good loot" from. Just something i want to know about the game before i purchase it.
Thanks in advance.

first; WELCOME :D
second; You can get weapons from defeating monsters, buying at a [weapons] NPC or from other players.
Armors you can only get from an [armors] NPC.
Weapons and armors alone can give you extra stats, for armor you can get extra stats by putting 'runes' (you can buy these) on them. And for weapons, you can 'mod' them to fit your playing style, by adding for example a +30 health mod to them.
In guild wars, if you just do missions or quests, you can find several bosses on your way. It's easier to defeat these in groups, but there is a little chance it will drop his weapon or offhand for you. In Eye of the North (expansion) you can do dungeons with groups, and at the end there will spawn a chest. You can only open this chest once, and it can drop something good for you (not always).
I hope to see you in game :D

First of all, welcome to Gameamp. And about your question:
Weapons are obtained by:
Trading with others
Loot from monsters
Buying weapons from weaponsmith NPC's
And crafting weapons at certain NPC's, using drops from monsters
Armor:
Does NOT drop from monsters
Can be bought from armorcrafters in certain cities
They are customized to you, which means that if someone trade you a piece of armor, you will not be able to use it.
Armor itself does not at any stats, but you can equip the armor with runes for adtional attribute points in certain attributes (fx. +3 Fire Magic), and you can equib them with insignias that gives other bonuses (fx. more energy, more armor vs. certain dmg, and stuff lke that).
And yes, there are boss monsters. Not all of them will need a group to be killed as there's been made builds to solo some bosses. Other bosses will need you to go through a mission before you can fight them, and require a group to be killed.
Dungeons and Elite missions have a boss at the end of it, and after the boss is killed, a chest will spawn, which holds items for everyone on the group. Some of those are very valueable.
Think that's it^^
EDIT:
Bummer. You guys beat me to it:P
Took me too long to write this stuff >.<

Firstly, thanks to the very helpful responses. I just have two more questions regarding the boxes that spawn after an elite boss is killed. You say they can contain very valuable items so can you kill this monster time and time again or will you eventually run out of elite monsters to kill and get valuable loot from. Also if something valuable dropped in the box and i sold it for a great deal of gold to another player what would i have to spend my money on in game.
Thanks again.

most end dungeon / boss chest are repeatable.. so u can loot em endlessly
and the money you get from selling loot u can spend on basically what ever you like.. buy weapons of ur liking from different campaigns if you dont have acces to a certain farm areas.. etc. / dyes / runes / elite armors / minipets / consumables (alcohol for drunkard title or sweets for sweet tooth title)...
spending money (at least for me) wont be a problem i guarantee ;)

OR you can use the money for making contests, or giving them away, which will, in most cases, make you very popular^^
