After posting on these forms and getting some positive and helpful feedback from what seems a good friendly community i have decided to purchase guild wars.
After reading up on the different classes and the ability to mix classes i was just curious as to what classes you guys have picked and why. Also if you have mixed classes which classes have you mixed and what was the reason behind it?
I personally think i will go for the warrior or elementalist.
I look forward to hearing your opinions and reasons.
[edit]changed title to \"Profession\" instead of \"Race\" & moved -SDB[/edit]
I like Ritualist (Factions) because of the spirits' ability to deal damage. And the ability to heal and be a backup monk.
Like Calypso said, Ranger! you get a pet and can name it, you can have your pet be the one to attack things, once you get the skills. All the traps that Rangers can set are very nice.
Mesmers are good for letting a foe kill itself and taking its energy.
Necromancers steal health from foes. They have alot of hexes and some good stuff to help the party. The minions are okay, they are kinda mindless and just run up and kill a random foe, nice to have if you just want to run by while the minions are keeping foes busy.
I'm not much of a melee person, I choose Dervish (Nightfall) over a warrior because Dervs have varuois skills that deal damage to more than one foe.
I have both a Warrior and an Elementalist. They are both fun. I guess it depends on what you like to do; melee or caster.
EDIT: I chose R/Mo. This way you can have a hard res from monk (a res that you can use multiple times). You can also use mending touch, wich is very handy on a ranger.
And you can do.. A LOT with a ranger: running, interupting, damage, tanking (?). Plus they have 70 armor level, so not many people attack you (in PvP that is, in PvE the enemies are just plain stupid xD).
If you need any help/tips or what ever, feel free to PM me in game.
Ele's all the way. I've always liked to blow up stuff, so ele was the perfect proffesion for me. Not only can it blow up stuff. It can snare, protect from dmg (wards) and can have massive defenses. Other proffesions can do that to of course and most of them better than the ele, but ele's still my favourite, and my one and only main char. They're just fun to play imo^^

Even if the torture stops, I'll die. And you'll die too, for when love leaves the world, all hearts are still. Tell them of my love and tell them of my pain and tell them of my hope, which still lives. For this is all I have and all I am and all I ask.
I chose Necromaancer because of their ability to not only hurt the enemy physically, but also steal their health for themselves.
I chose Ranger as a secondary because of the availability of the pet and the ability to use a bow to attack from a distance.
Bwhaha sorry but that makes no sence ^^ A pet needs 2 skill slot wich you can better use for necro skills. Withour any attributes in beast mastery the pet doesn't do any damage either. And you can use the attribute points better for something else if you're a necro. Also, a Necro needs energy from his sets and a bow can only provide +5 energy =\
Another add for why to play ranger: If you put attributes in beast mastery you can make the pet do all the damage (and take the hits) for you =D
Necromancer; for nothing is more enjoyable then seeing other classes, melee, ranged and casters alike to kill themselves of with each slash, arrow or spell, some might have the ability to deal with that, but even then they still fall prey to more direct tactics.
Ritualist is second because of the heavy spikes they can deal and the possibility to be, in some area's even more effective then ordinary monks, especially in the case when done in secondary class binded with Necromancer.
I have played all classes, least favorite are Paragon's and Elementalists, the rest all goes under ''Average' i say, with the exception of Assassin as, with the right build it has potential pending who the target is.
Monk :D keeping people alive or letting them die (which is amusing) 1 of best farming characters around (even if i don't farm :S) and keep you on ya toes
warriors are very fun profession to play, if you want to be able to deal good damage, and take it too. they have fantastic survivability, so they make good tanks. But something nice about warriors is they adrenaline, this allows them to attack skills and some other helping skills and still have energy ^^
My main is an Elementalist and always will be, why?
I alway choose a Mage or similair class in any game, because they usually
are famous for their area of effect damage,
and basically blowing stuff is lolz too.
and can, with the right skillz, effectively snare,
take little damage or protect the team via wards
My ele is usually E/A because of the shadowstepping out of harms way, (they have a squishy nature)
WARRIOR
pros:
Very easy to learn, good character to start with
Nice armor and weapons are available
cons:
Gets boring after a while (no comments on this please, I'm just giving my opinion.
RANGER
pros:
Nice armor
Survivability
cons:
doesn't have it's own specialty (interrupts can be done by mesmers, conditions can be done by assassin and pure damage can be done by eles)
MESMER
pros:
I don't have enough mesmer-experience to answer this
cons:
It can be hard to find a group in hard missions and highend areas
not many options to make good money
ELEMENTALIST
pros:
Massive damage and AoE skills (area of effect)
Lots of farming options
easy to get a group
cons:
Can get repetitive (at least that's what I think)
NECROMANCER
pros
Very good at hindering by punishing the enemy when they attack or use skills (Spitefull Spirit, Insidious Parasite, Spoil Victor etc.)
superior energy management
cons
Not many nice armor arts(the nice ones are elite, which cost a lot)
MONK
pros
VERY easy to find groups
nice farming options
cons:
not the best profession to start with
ASSASSIN
pros:
nice spiking options (spiking = dealing a lot of damage in a short time)
You can apply a lot of conditions
cons:
tend to die quick
not the best character to start with
RITUALIST
pros:
flexible (they can deal dmg, heal and summon spirits)
cons:
almost everything they can, can be done better by other classes (monks heal better, eles deal more damage)
ugly armor (that's what I think)
PARAGON
pros:
---
cons:
hard to find groups in highend areas
rather useless (that's what I think)
DERVISH
ses warrior
I hope this helped

My main is a warrior, because he was the first i made and has the most titles and armor.
But my favorite has to be Assassin, massive amounts of damage in a really short amount of time.
Second is Necromancer, as said above, fun to watch enemies kill themselves :P

RE: What Profession Are You And Why?
My main is also warrior, i like the armors and weps they have. so you can go into battle and look good while doing it, plus they can have very good dmg and farming spots especially Warrior/Ritualist (requires factions)
RANGER
pros:
Nice armor
Survivability
cons:
doesn't have it's own specialty (interrupts can be done by mesmers, conditions can be done by assassin and pure damage can be done by eles)
I'm going to have to dis agree with you on that (again =P). Rangers are better interupters than mesmer in general, because most mesmer interupts only affect spells/chants and thay have a longer recharge time.
And they do have their own specialty! Expertise! It's one of the most leet attributes if you ask me. You can just spam around your attacks wich only use 50% of the normal energy cost.

I'm adding something to that :p Traps! None of the other professions could lay loads of traps without running out of energy. Elementalists and necro's would be closest to be able to do the same job, but they'd still have to be /R. Elementalists fails cause of the time it takes to fill up the energy bar, necro's fails cause of the need of things to die.
Anyways,
Ranger is my favorite profession. They got some of the best looking armors in the game (imo), they're fun and they have various builds (though I mainly just use a few). I'm sure I could make this list a lot longer, but I cant bother typing anymore (Yes, I'm a lazy, lazy person)
Plus they have 70 armor level, so not many people attack you (in PvP that is, in PvE the enemies are just plain stupid xD)
.....i have nothing to say
Than I don't know why you just posted something......
He is mildly implying that for some is more of an obvious matter then you.
To say it bluntly:
Your Comment is Not-Well-Thought-Over.
Hippie sometimes has, like all humans problems exactly explaining things, plus he doesnt want to risk jumping over the canyon of flames.
Still, your statement is very much untrue, just because they have 70 armor doesn't mean they wont get attacked cause their *hard* to take down.
Rangers, if with the right build especially in PvP are usually one of the first targets on the list, the only thing that keeps them from getting beaten into a pulp is they use a Bow. They can kite melee units, and if using Insignias have a high defense against Elemental damage.
This is what you might have noticed if you've done PvP, they do want to attack you, but your a target worthless to walk after, but if given a chance you find a mesmer or a enemy ranger trying to slow you down and keep you at your place for someone else to either turn you into ash with fire or just carve you up nicely.
That's what the implication basicly was about, Armor doesn't make you a bigger or smaller priority target, the amount of potential danger you are makes you a favorite target or not.

RE: What Profession Are You And Why?
War/Para- killing stuff and having a god-mode button is fun :D
Monk is the funniest ever! They can find parties really easy and.... well many things. Don't really want to write everything good with monks, as no one have enough time to read all that. I like my dervish ( NOT his name D= )too.
Another thing i have to fix when i notice it tomorrow...
