Hello, just wondering if theres any type of program that I can download for free that I'm able to use for making signatures! I've got a pretty rubbish one I made with paint by just basically cropping it lol....I don't like to use torrents unless it's completely legal! (Not sure if they're even legal anyways lol)
Anyone know of any?? Thanks in advance <3

Hmmm.
Free as in Beer, or free as in Speech?
Well, GimpShop is free in both ways. I use it a lot. I also like Paint Shop Pro (Version 7, anything beyond that just sucks) but it isn't free in either way. Only Free version of Photoshop I'm aware of are the illegal downloads which we're not promoting on this site.
Give GimpShop a spin :-)

I use Paintshop Pro X. I'm sure there's a newer version, but I'm broke.
Its not free, but its a TON cheaper than Photoshop and just as user-friendly.
Approving guides since November 2007.

paint shop pro the old versions of the program from version 2 to version 9
yep they are all free trials from a company jasc thats been... taken over by corel.
Corel now have paintshop xi. I presume they mean paintshop pro 11
:/ but they don't sell their older versions any more.
My advise is to try a few of them on a month basis and see if you like any of them month free trials on paint programs could last you for 15 months if you take them one at a time upgrading each time :D.
With the new features added on each upgrade its a good way to get into the more complex features at a pace that suits you. after all allot of oldies like me would have started on version 3 and got the others from a cover disc. I actually did have version 5 given to me as the result of some campaign when version 7 was released. and I use the two along side each other until I felt ok to progress. I would do what I wanted to a photo and copy it out into the other version to do more to it.
I remeber when verison 8 came out and I didn't like the new layout but I use verison 9 which once you get used to it is not too bad. I'm trying to use photoshop cs3 but its a complex program. its way more complex than most people will need it to be but it is very powerful.
many of the features in painshop pro are found in photoshop and vise versa but they are dramatically different in layout so its like taking a trip to an alien plannet swapping between the two.
anyway for less of a culture shock I would advise going for an early version of the program its very similar to pain in the way things are handled and should be ok for making signitures.
If you want to go on to do more complex stuff than general picture editing things like putting david hastlehoffs face on the surface of mars then you may be interested in photoshop there are two sorts of photoshop one is this mind bending cs3 version that has a month trial
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/index.html
photoshop elements : this is sort of like a beginners photoshop that would probably be a compramise between trying to launch your self into space and the last of my list thats just a glorified photo album.
http://www.adobe.com/go/tryphotoshop_elements_win
there is a free verison but it has no actual features
(it sucks) yeah I put this here not to recomend it but so I could poke fun at it. adobe what are you thinking???
can we all understand that windows already has thumbnails and a preveiw option when you right click on a picture?
smells like wee ---> http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/starter.html <-- stupid
*drops a piano on this version*
edit : added more mockery to the last version of photoshop incase you arent getting what im trying to say here album starter edition is was designed for morons by morons with lots of morons standing around complimenting each other on how stupid they all are and they smell and I don't like the way they did their hair. and and and muuuhh silly silly wee wee head

Brilliant omission of the letter 't' in 'paint' there :-)
Great and helpful post regardless!

Only on Font aliassing, and even then only if you're not the one paying the bills.
PS has more high-end features , but for the basics that are all you need nine out of ten times, PSP is more bang for less of a buck.

yeah I have to say psp8 is £15 on amazon compaired to phtot shop cs3 at £585
its certainly debateable if its 39 times better there are photoshop versions that are slightly cheaper but adobe is not aiming at someone who wants to make a simple sig.
unless your swashing your buckles or have a company thats willing to foot the bill or just happen to have more than half a months wages (I'm min wage here). I would suggest that second photoshop on my list would be more worth it. allot of oem packages available.

Thanks a lot for the replys guys, I'll give a shot at some of them free trail thingys, and if I like it I might actually go out and buy it. It's not that I can't afford it or anything It's just I honestly don't want to spend tons of money on something which I may be able to get for free (without illegal downloads)
Thanks again!

paint.net or gimp, dont bother with trials or the heavier programs if your not going to use it alot.
