Well.. the normal Guild Wars, Prophecies is the best to start with imo. And if you can't find just "Guild Wars", search for "Guild Wars Prophecies". Anyway, if you like the game i would suggest that you buy expansions, that will give you better skills, armors and will give you a reason why you don't have to be out working in the garden :P
Another thing i have to fix when i notice it tomorrow...

Best bought campaign would be Nightfall from my opinion, it has a slow learning curve which in this case can be rather good, Prophecies is even slower, but considering your new, i dont think you will find exactly THE guild cut out for you just yet. So the heroes themselves will be a great help (heroes are A.I players which you can customize, with weapons and skills)
Unless ofcourse you like to play with your friend constantly in Prophecies, if you dont think you'll be questing alongside all the time, Nightfall might be more of a helpfull thing.
Factions i say Avoid at all costs, for any new player Factions is awful, there's almost no learning curve, and the pace is just too fast for anyone to keep up unless your a die-hard RPG player.
Eye of the North only works if you got any of the three campaigns: Prophecies, Factions or Nightfall, keep that in mind. So don't buy that one unless you get another campaign aswell. The rest of the Campaigns are all standalone.

First part: Guild Wars
Second part: Guild Wars - Factions
Third part: Guild Wars - Nightfall
Add-on: Guild Wars - Eye of the North
I'd go for the first part. Guild Wars ;) its the best to start with and you will enjoy it the most I think.

You neeed to start with the basics Guild Wars Prophoices
That will give you the time to develope your chacter and figure out what class u want to be.Also u can get core skills and won't have to buy skills as soom as u start the game. Once you know what uwwant ot be and have all the skills u think from that game then go to GW factions were can get more great skills some new armmor's and learn about being in a alliance( aka more than just your guild).Then after that buy Night fall.Here u will learn about heros alot of betterthan henchmen and u can equip them with weapond and give then runes so they will live alot longer.
The final one u should buy is Eye if the north this is little harder the monsters are alot tuffer but yet you get more heros here.

If you ever need help just give me a PM (IGN is in my signature). All my characters started in prophecies and it's the best campaign in my opinion =D

A little ps,
no matter what campaigne you go for don't forget to check-out guildwiki It will give you all the info you need to get through the game as well as some advice beforehand, you will be warned of spoilers but useually you will be able to do several thing at the same time saving you having to do something twice.
And yes prophesies rocks, but thats just me.
Good luck and enjoy the game

I've been at the store multiple times now..
I noticed that Proh (while I was looking for EoTn for another friend), was actually being combined now with EoTN. It contained a card with the access code on it.
If I remembered rightly, it was Plat Edition. But considering Proh has been priced around 20 bucks and EoTN was down to 10 last time I saw it...not exactly the cheapest way to go if you're trying to save 10 bucks :P
NF and Cantha were also bumped down to around 20-30 at Walmart and Target.
I'm not sure about your area, buts that(s) the prices when I saw them last. May have been a sale, I don't know :P
___
Proh is always a good starter.
Proh= more medieval style.
It has more freedom as to what you can do when.
NF and Cantha are set to storyline! You have to follow the story to get through the game...which is annoying after a few characters have been taken through...
Nf= Egyptian style
Cantha= Japanese/Chinese style
I love all the games. But nothing beats starting at the beginning :)
Hope this helped you :D
Mimori
Adding:
The order they were released was:
Proh -> Cantha -> Nightfall -> Eye of the North (Expansion to Proh)

EotN isn't really expansion to proph... its exapsion to nf/factions too, but it has the same map as proph and can be bought together with proph (platinum edition). Although its not expansion to proph...
Another thing i have to fix when i notice it tomorrow...

I would go proph, then when your ready, factions, then NF and then EoTN, go in chronological order as the games came out over time.
