Alright, I am starting to get slightly ticked off at the prizes in the mission chests in EOTN. I work my butsky off to fight my way thru these sometimes convoluted missions only to get a DWARVEN ALE.
What the heck good is a dwarven ale when I just spent like 30 minutes to an hour killing everything in my path hoping to get a gold or gem or something of value.
Please understand that this has not happened once but FOUR times in the last two weeks.
Am I doing something wrong or am I just the unluckiest person on the friggin planet.

You arent doing Fronis are you? Cuz thats all you get there >.> Im so sick of doing 2-4 Hour Dungeons and only getting either a stupid purple or Onyx Gemstone, really starting to piss me off.Its going to stop me from doing anymore dungeons if it keeps going like this.

You're doing the Fronis Ironetoe's lair thing. You NEVER get a dwarven ale from a dungeon other than that one.

I wish, I was not suprised to get it on the Frontis quest considering it is really not hard to beat that dungeon. But some really hard quests involving muliple levels. Just seems like a big waste. I would expect the chest to always contain high end prizes considering it is deserved.

yup, hate that too
I get tired of feeling that I am the garbageman for all the monsters. I end up picking up every piece of trash that drops, so I can afford more lockpick, so I can go back out to get more crappy purple junk....and on and on and on and on.
the good part about hard mode is that loot scaling seems to be either removed or lowered greatly...the bad part is that it just means that you end up with an inventory of garbage.

Well try getting 14-20 or 15-21 DMG gold swords, crappy purple non max wands and much more non level 20 stuff in EoTN... made gw look so much more smaller to me.

Yeah that ticks me off too. For an expansion pack that was MADE for lvl 20 chars with all these high end monsters and very hard master difficulty quests, the loot that you get from it really blows. I mean come on! After doing Frostmaw's Burrow on HM for 4-5 hours, finally beating it, and then getting a req. 12 crappy gold bow and a req 11 crappy gold sword......I mean WTF!?!!?! That's why I only do most dungeons once (to count toward my master of the north title), because all I seem to get is crap for drops. Even the locked chests in HM EotN drop purple more than they do gold items (for me anyway). Something is seriously messed up with that. AND the golds that do actually drop are usually really, really, really crappy (aka merchant food). Anet really needs to do something about it IMO.

We did a HM FoW run on Sunday...3 hours & 8 chest items. Yes I got some gems, a lockpick & a key but then I also got a Wand & a Katana....nothing special.
Then we do UW & the same thing, Ecto, Key & a common as muck gold. I get better weaps farming Raptors and more gold per hour.
It's always bugged me that an elite area like this can even produce a 'white 9-17 Raven Staff' from a lvl 27 critter.
However the fun of the area, the team play, the uber statue in HoM & the chance of some of the rarest skins in the game do make these areas worth while. You can't do something once and claim it to be worthless, do a few more runs and eventually you'll get something worthwhile.

Dungeons are, in my opinion, there for the challenge and teamplay/ fun; not for the loot or rewards. If you want to make money out of it; then go farming. Last time i got a descent gold out of a foe/chest/reward is ages ago. I have never been lucky on drops; and increasingly less even the past month.
But i play this game for the fun it provides; not the loot it gives. Of course it is nice to make some in-game money so you can buy stuff; but there are way more effective ways to accomplish that.
As for elite areas giving crap items as spectral essence etc; i have made 2k once out of demonic remains from a duo UW run O.O crap item? 100% true; worthless? nope :) white ravenstaffs are best left in the dust ;)

It's probably becasue you play WOW :D, GW knows you have WOW on your computer, so GW is like "your a bad, bad man". Henceforth i do enjoy a bit of pidgeon every now and then.

Yes, Farming can be better income wise. But, Dungeons have things that only drop there. I have yet to get a damn Green from ANY Dungeon. Ive never gotten a gold from a Dungeon. The only thing i get are Onyx Gemstones and crappy Purples... :(

Important EotN rule: No max golds are allowed! (well, it seems like it is a rule.) When i get golds in Eotn they're never max! And when it is max (wohoo) its either purple, blue or white (or green ofc).
 Another thing i have to fix when i notice it tomorrow...

honestly, from what ive seen if you just pug a fow grp and take 2-3 hours then its not worth it, get a grp like johnnys however that can consistantly clear in less than an hour and its more than worth it fow runs normally bring in 30-40k for me along with a chance at a high end weap for 2-3 hours that isnt much but if that time were within an hour id say its more than worth it
all depends on your grp :-p

for some reason when i do dungeons i get crap drops tell the final chest... then i get the awesome drops =P greens, golds with perfect mods, golds with at least 1 perfect mod, etc

The only green I've got so far is Oola's Wand.
Everything else was either a gem or a gold with at least one gold mod.

I run HM FoW and UW pugs a lot recently (yes abusing Ursan while I can another topic) I now have in my possesion >1200 ectos and a recently dedicated mini -beelte (by me) all from drops. It taks a little over 50 min to do FoW (60 on a bad run) and about 70 minutes for UW. I say again that these are basically pug groups as well, usually 3 of us and 5 pugs. The key is in the setup and the pace.
As for crappy drops in dungeons - I look at dungeons as more of a team challenge done for fun, I agree it sucks to do Frostmaw's and get an r12 recurve bow but thats just how it is. I have had many runs in FoW where I get 2 scrolls as my gold drops, those get even out by the good drops R9 &R11 Obsidian Edge, R9 Dwarven Axe, rare skinned shields and other stuff. So If you just want money I wouldn't suggest doing dungeons. If you want that special green or Master of the North points then keep pushing.

I do mostly do them for points, but id like my effort to be paid off as well. Ive done Bogroots about 13 Times not even a green or a gold. ALWAYS an Onyx Gemstone. Hopefully if i get back in [MU] my luck will change xD Farming Raptors for me, i always get 2-4 Golds per run. When it comes to End Chests, my luck is about as good as a bag of rocks...and i dont feel like wasting 3k on Zaishen Keys anymore. I wish theyd drop back down to 2k each xD
