| error messages you get while ruuning updater |

I was recently installing CoH on to my new laptop and after it was to the point of verifing the patch it gave an error message saying it couldn't delete this file:C:\ProgramFiles\CityofHeroes\CityofHeroes.old
Is there anybody who has also gotten this message?
My laptop runs on Vista, im thinking that might be part of the problem but im not sure.

I have not experienced this error before... but I don't have Vista.
Anyone else have any help here?

Have you tried going into that folder and manually deleting it?

To answer both questions, yes i have an account but its not active right now, and i did manually delete the file, then i re-ran the updater and it put the file back into the main directory.
Would not having an active account interfere with a patch download?

Well, I actually meant Windows Vista account.
Should have said admin rights rather than authorizations I guess :-)
I was thinking the file was locked by a process running under system administration account, like for instance an anti-virus application.
You can update the game and even run it without an account just fine. You just need it to actually log in and play.

now that you mention it on the shortcut icon there is this little windows shield that says that i need admin rights or some such thing. Do you think that is whats stopping the program from completing?

i just tried to run the updater again and its when it gets to the applying the patch part is when the problem arises.
this is the message that i get: "Rename failed to delete target C:\Program Files\CityofHeroes\CityofHeroes.old
This file may be in use by another program-make sure you aren't running CityofHeroes.exe or another copy of CohUpdater.exe if all else fails try restarting your machine."
I did what it suggested and restarted my laptop but i still have this problem.

Just a few ideas, if you haven't fixed your problum yet.
1) Right-click the upgdater and look for something that says run as.. This will give ya a little box, and in that box there will be a radio button (round click able button) that will say "The following User", and choose the admin account on your computer. If you are getting a permision denied on the re-write this should cancel that. Also note in properties there is a check box for Read-Only, you could also look at that and make sure it is unchecked.
2) Check the processes in Task Manager look for CohUpdater.exe.. And make sure it is not running if that is your problem.
3) If all else failes.. re-download the client. Who knows ya might of got a bum download. The one I got was from.
City of Heros Client Download
Hope this has helped.. Don't know much about the client, but also just a FYI.. I tried to run the client while in a zip. (I know not the smartest of all things), and I got a somewhat simular error about not being able to re-write. So the exe has to be there. It can't just have the exe being called from some pusdo place.
