It either lasts for 2 weeks or 10 hours. Whichever one comes first.

Its which ever comes first. You can play it for 10 hours, but the trail key only stays active for 14 days.
And yes, if you have the keys on your account, you can use the skills and heroes from the game in question. But once the trail expires, the skills and heroes are locked, til you have a retail key on the account. :)

Time starts ticking when you activate the key. So that means, even in the 10 hours you have, if you don't step foot in Elona or the Far Shiverpeaks, your time is ticking.

If you're logged on it'll start the timer against your 10 hours. But if you're logged off you should be fine. Lease that is what it was last time I did a trial key lol

Try GW:EN for FIVE Hours
http://eu.guildwars.com/events/in_game_events/trial/
Use that link for a free 5-hour trail of GW:EN. Has been available for quite some time now. GL

Timer only starts/keeps goin when you're logged in, and I think when you're in the lands of ur trail does the timer too keep goin. (so may not include when u'r in the campaigns u own.
