Creating A Charcater For The First Time

I just read the getting started and you can only play a character on the erver you create him on.
How do you decide what server to pick? I don'y want to create and hero and spend tons of hours deleveoping him to find out I don't like the server I created him on.
What are the differences between the servers?

Does it depend on my style of play?

Thank you this could save me tons of heartache in the long run. I would rather know before I get started.

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

First off WELLCOME TO GAMEAMP!!!!

:) Heh now that i have that over with, you really cant go to wrong and if you have a really high toon (like 20-50) you can do a sever transfer for the meer price of 10 USD.

Hmmm but i bet some of the old timers here on game-amp would know what sever is the best. (not that there is one though some may argue this.)

***THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED***

I'm not a altoholic...no really i only have 1000+ toons...thats not..really...never mind.

Welcome to the game, and AFAIK, alot of the Ampers play on Triumph, since the official GameAmp SG is there.
Something about Victory or some other server is very focused on PvP. I don't play the US servers, so I'm not sure, but someone actually American probably knows

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

Welcome to the game and GameAmp!

Freedom and Virtue seem to have the biggest populous. Always crowded during prime time hours.
The rest of the servers usually have lighter loads.
Virtue seems to be the un-official RP server, so if u really get into your character Virtue is cool.
Freedom - where do I start :) You probably will have no problem gettin on a team which is good for leveling but because it seems to be the most crowded, it also has the most idiots and it seems to be the un-official farming or power leveling server which can lead to greediness and lower toons being taken advantage of. don't get me wrong most of my mains are on freedom and I have met alot of cool people there, but I am just saying I have met some of the biggest idots there too.
I have met alot of cool people on Champion as well.
Let me know if you need any in game help. I'll be glad to run with you.

And yes it just depends what style you like to play. Tankers and Scrappers like to jump in the melee and the others like to help/heal, control and damage from the perimeter.

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

here's what has been my experience with the servers:

Freedom - most popular, unofficial PvP server, you can always find a team, but a lot of people there are "power gamers" and not very nice. also, i do NOT recommend it if you have a slow computer.

Virtue - unofficial roleplaying server (if you dont know what that is, its when people type and act like their character would). because of this, almost everyone is very nice and the characters are a lot more developed. i think its the second-most populated.

Infinity - maybe third most populated, i have been able to find a team there easily, people are generally nice.

Justice - a somewhat dying server, but i have a bunch of characters on there, its a pretty good community.

Triumph - GameAmp supergroup is there, so you can always find people from this site on. however, it is almost the lowest-populated server, so if you use it, make sure to have a character that can solo efficiently.

The same is true for servers like Victory, maybe Guardian and Champion sometimes.

Champion i know has a lot of Ampers with villains, mine are mostly on justice, but just ask around.

if anything i said is not the case, just correct me, i dont know much about the other servers not mentioned.

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

Well I don't know if this helps but my son (who is 7) and myself would most likely be beating up baddies and completing quest/missions solo in the game. Not as a group.

I might get more into the role-playing aspect of it but not much.

Hope this helps in steering me in the right direction.

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

I really don't think there is a "wrong" server. You can play solo on a busy server, and it isn't hard to find a team on a slower one. Your choice of archetype and powers will have a much bigger impact on your quality of play.

I'm an incurable altoholic, but most recently I've played as these characters:

Abana (hero, Champion), lvl 44 mag tanker, stone/stone/fit
Etain Echraide (hero, Virtue), lvl 21 mag controller, plant/therm
One Man Vs. The Mob (hero, Virtue), lvl 11 sci blaster, nrg/nrg/fly/stealth
Ballplayer Reverend (hero, Champion), lvl 19 nat tanker, will/mace/speed

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

ahhok. That would be a hard one for me to answer at this time. BUT if I had to answer I probably would have 2 guys

main guy a Scrapper and another a Blaster

I am not sure what my son would do but he probably would have Blaster as his main hero and a Tannker.

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

First off, welcome to the game and welcome to Gameamp.

Personally, I started out years ago on Infinity and stayed there for quite some time. It's a good server all in all though I rarely go there anymore. I transfered most of my toons from there to Triumph since I played there more. I came to Triumph after joining Gameamp, and I haven't felt the need or desire to leave. It's a great server with a number of good people on it...mostly Ampers. Recently, Big and I have started to branch out a little onto Protector, but that's mostly because of altitis.

If you choose to solo most of the time or join the occasional team, I recommend Triumph. I have no problem finding a team there if I want one and often get invites even when I don't want a team. But then that's just my two cents on the matter.

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

Hey guys. I got home from work yesterday (and I skipped the gym, lol) and came straight home and downloaded the client.

2 Things stand out.

1) I wish you could name your person BEFORE configuring them. IMO at least for me I base what mt guy can do based from his name. If I name my guy Firelord and it is taken then I have to go back and redo him. Of course I can keep trying different fire based names but you get my point.

2) How do I make my toons hair color different or break up the colors between their gloves boots and stuff. Seems to be whatever the main color the uniform is that is the same color the hair is.

Oh graphics are great and the tutorial was good (I play about half of it) I actually am home from work today so I am going to make 2 guys I really like then start playing for real until my son comes home from school then he will want to make his guys.

Thanks for all your help.

I agree with you on the naming thing since I tend to do the same thing myself a lot of times. As for the color thing, there is a button under the color matrix that you can click that allows you to turn off using the same colors for everything. Just click that so that the button no longer has a green X in it, and you can mix and match colors at will.

There is a button for checking names on the character selection screen. That's useful if you have a specific name in mind.

But keep in mind there are a whole lot of players, and game policy seems to err on the side of a player keeping their unused characters. Every obvious good name is being used. There have been times when I've done some internet research, investigating other cultures and other languages to come up with a good name. For instance: Abana, a Hebrew female name that means "made of stone", perfect for a beautiful stone statue that was magically brought to life.

There is a toggle under all the colors to set whether you want the colors to be copied throughout the uniform or not. It's activated by default. I recommend having it turned on at first and selecting the two main colors of your character, then turning it off as you start filling in the details.

And yes, the costume creator is a little confusing when you start out (it was for me), but once you get the hang of it you'll love it.

OK I am just confused. I took the toggle out of the button for linked colors and I still can't change my hair color. What gives? Main color of my uniform is blue and my hair is blue. I want to change just my hair.

Oh the check name button was greyed out. Not sure why that was.

RE: Creating A Charcater For The First Time

Welcome to GameAmp!

You came to the right place for help getting started in the game. These folks are all about helping folks out.

Your Blaster and Scrapper selections will be very solo-able.

Ah..... no love for the Liberty server..... LMAO. I know, my old stompin grounds aren't on the most popular server in the game, but there were a lot of nice players on that server. But Triumph is where a LOT of Ampers play, so you can probably get some good teaming action when you want it.

You may prefer to solo a lot, but at times you'll want to check out the Task forces and such.

Be sure to add the gameamp.com private channel to your characters. It will be a big help for those times you do need help on a mission.

Enjoy! Even though I mostly play WoW now, I still love this game and this was the site that helped make it fun.

I also play with my daughter who is 7. My advice to you is to spend a lot of time and effort carefully building your hero/villain's look, theme, style etc.

Anytime I just slapped something together, I didn't have much fun and eventually dropped the character. All the ones I really put time into, I really loved playing. I even started a webcomic about them :)

I highly recommend reading my character building guide. I would have put it here on GA, but they don't let us post pics so here's the link:
