For my next toon I'm gonna go back to a scrapper. Ive already done katana, dual blades with will power and super reflexes. My question is want a toon that really dishes out damage which combination do you think would work best For Offense I want to with either go with spines or claws, and for defense dark armor or wait for fiery aura.
Just want to get some ideas of what evryone hear thinks.

Dishes out the damage depends on how you want to play.
If you PvP, melee characters do poorly, no matter the set, unless you find inexperienced squishies often.
If not, from those choices, I'd pick spines. They are pretty similar, but I think spines has better AoE's.
I have a Broadsword scrapper, and I bring the hurt just fine, but some don't like how slow the set seems. Hope that helps.

I am currently running a Claws/SR. Damage is ok, I was hoping for more but its sort of a middle of the road set. Fairly quick recharges, and lower end usage. Claws is more of a single target set. My thought with my current build was to be a boss killer.
Spines is all about AoE. Spine/Dark sounds very fun, I'd try that one.

Yeah Im not really concerned with PvP as I dont really go to those zones much. When I make a toon I usually have a concept in mind with this particular toon with the concept/bio that im thinking would work best with spines/claws for offense and Fiery Aura/drk armor for the def.
With my concept in mind I envisioned a mob killer which means Im leaning toward spines. as for the def I m keeping it to fire/dark because of the AoE atack that comes with those two sets

Spine/Fire will be a fairly solid pairing. While /Fire doesn't have the mitigation of Oppressive Gloom or Cloak of Fear, and doesn't have the Psi/Toxic resists or end drain protection, it does have a more reliable and less endurance intense heal, as well as an Endurance Recovery power for those Oh Crap! moments.
I'm not 100% sure, but I *believe* Blazing Aura for scrappers will end up doing more damage than Death Shroud currently does. They may end up equal to each other, but because Fire Armor is known for its damage and has less built in AoE mitigation, I wouldn't be surprised if BA does more damage in the end.
Also, Fiery Embrace is a beautiful power, especially when combined with Build Up from Spines. Since Scrappers have a 400% damage cap, they can literally get 160% from FE+BU, another 95% from slotting 3 Damage enhancements, and criticals to boot. You'll really mow down mobs. And if for some reason things don't go your way? Drop a Burn patch to get baddies off your back while you pop some inspirations and/or Healing Flames.
Dark Armor will provide better mitigation, but will be more endurance intense. Fire Armor will be more aggressive, with some extra endurance help built in.
Hope you enjoy whatever scrapper you decide to make!

Thanks Warron...you always have the numbers and percentages....that helps alot...Most likely gonna run with Spines/Fire......so now I just have to wait for l12 do create my toon and get a hold of some Roman armor pieces and Fire-Phalanx will be up running!!!

i was actually thinking about a spines/fire scrapper, too. it would be killer for AoE damage probably, and i've never really tried either set.

I was trying to find a point of comparison between Death Shroud and Blazing Aura, to get an idea of which actually would do more damage, when it hit me: Brutes!
Brutes have both Dark Armor and Fiery Aura available to them. According to their tables, Death Shroud does 8.34 damage/second at base values. This is less than the scrapper version does, but that is simply because Brutes have a lower base damage, to counter the fact that they get extremely high amounts of +damage from Fury. Brute Blazing Aura does 9.18 damage/second at base values. This is approximately 10% more damage than Death Shroud. If we carry this 10% over to scrapper numbers, I'd expect Scrapper Blazing Aura to do 13.75 damage/second.
Of course, this is only conjecture based on Brute values and tables. Not knowing the Scrapper tables, these values may be different than what the result will be when I12 comes out. So don't quote me on these numbers. However, I sincerely predict that Scrapper Blazing Aura *will* do more damage than Scrapper Death Shroud, making Fiery Aura the better choice for AoE damage purposes. Again, Fiery Aura does not have the mitigation available to Dark Armor, so expect to have some tougher fights than a /dark scrapper would. However, I fully expect Healing Flames to compensate for any additional damage you may take.
Based again on Brute values, which are supposed to mimick scrapper values anyway, I expect Fiery Aura to provide the exact same amount of pure damage resistance that Dark Armor provides to smashing/lethal damage. Obviously, Fire will have better Fire resistance, and lesser Cold resistance, while Dark Armor will have better Dark and Psi resistance. Providing you know your enemies, you will find that inspirations can do much to mitigate these differences. You may be more reliant on Purple and Orange inspirations than a /Dark scrapper, but you'll certainly have better endurance management, with Consume and less toggles running. Not to mention that Healing Flames is a wonderful heal with a very sane endurance cost, as opposed to Dark Regeneration, which may be stronger in some situations, but will also take a much larger chunk of your endurance every time you use it.
Hope this helps,
W.P.
