We suspect that the earth is about 4.5 billion years old. But how old are we then? The oldest signs of astrological study (The zodiac) date back to about 17,000 years ago. and dna/fossil dating has some humans go back as much as 200,000 years ago.
It makes me wonder, if they were alive that far back; they would have developed language and writing. Yet we have such a huge gap of lost knowledge before *modern* recorded history (about 5,000 years ago) it really gets you thinking where it all went.
What do you guys think was life and general knowledge of those so far back? Even more importantly. Humans have an innate behavior to learn; so what did they think of, or dream of?

Funny to see what we have accomplished in only 150 years. Before the year 1850 we were still busy with surviving on our own. After that we gave up farming (not GW farming, the rl stuff with seeds), because we could now earn money and buy food with it.
And look what we did in such a short period!
Though the most important inventions have already been made.. electriciy, light, telephone, etc. I am curious how long it takes before someone comes up with anti-gravity stuff.
There has even been a gossip that some people already found much much better fuel that does no damage to the environment, but they get payed by oil companies for not showing the world these plans..
Anyway, I wonder what more there's to come.

Why do I get the feeling History isn't one of your best classes at school, Blazings?

Dr. Spencer Wells led a Genographic project back in like 2005… He believed that by studying DNA, scientists will be able to map out the origin of humans and explain where the “original humans” began.
He also mentioned that we all share a common ancestor dating back 60,000 years ago.
Basically supporting the theory that humans originated from Africa and we expanded outwards.
But, it’s practically impossible to tell which theory is correct. To truly pin point where our ancestors began… sense all evidence could either support the multiple theories there are. Studying skulls can show that people’s skulls differentiate depending on the climate. (I can’t remember the exact details however).
There have been multiple incidents of knowledge that’s been lost. The Royal Library of Alexandria, “The Great Library”, was known to holding the knowledge of the world. Yet it was destroyed; Leaving only hints to knowledge. Then you have tribes and centuries where people may have not developed a record system. (A form of writing) Or one that modern scientist can understand…
Whichever, it just means we’re not expanding further in knowledge as we could have if all of it hadn’t been lost. We’ve basically been repeating what past generations already discovered…and thus expanded in a way at the same time.
I’m not too bothered in discovering where we originated from; it doesn’t bother me to know.
Depending on where they were located in the world would depend on what they wanted/dreamed/imagined. Everybody wants life to be better… Depending on the climate would depend on their actions. Their homes being more open (for heat), or most sheltered (for cold). .. etc etc.
I have to go to work, so I can’t expand on this much further. But I imagine that the tribes that were set were more tightly knit, and probably more violent or brutal.
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. I’m not that great at remembering details.
Have fun discussing history lol.

Because your right.
If we look at the evidence, hard. And very religous. And ignorant. And I'm gonna need some time to complete a list.
The knowledge also wasn't kinda 'lost' just forgotten (Valley of the Kings forgotten).
We just have to 'rediscover' like Stone Henge and more of those 'footprints' they left behind.

Impossible? Hardly

to add to this deep discussion i will pose this question: how advanced would we be if we had not had the dark ages where there were no significant strides in science?

or atlantis not been wiped, or the fall of various other advanced civilizations in the last 5000 years... LOL, the better question would be to ask...
how advanced would we be if there'd been no grandiose disasters and falling civilizations.
ie: Egypt, Greece, China, Romans. etc. the list goes on.

farming 150 years ago and now we don't need farms? lol, man, someone 'farmed' the wood the money's printed on... our province's license plate is a bushell of wheat, the beer i drink comes from grain / hops, grain and hops are grown on farms.
the most basic food on the planet, bread, comes from grain... bags of rice / other grains are sent to starving nations because it's essential.
we're royally f***ed without farms and farmers even more so today with the mass amounts of waste that we 'advanced' civilizations create.
Egypt invented beer from farming grain thousands and thousands of years ago, even canaled the Nile River to supply nutrients to their soil...
in regards to the OP, i think life back then had the same struggles, possibly in a different context. our basic 'lust' or appreciation for acceptance, power, love, has never changed.
men 5000 years ago still dreamt about sex, a lot...
women were always trying to one up their friends
nerds and artists got made fun of and beat up.
there were lazy people, stupid people, hierchy's, corruption, crime, revenge,
there were dreamers, well wishers, workers, thinkers, doers, inventors and creators, everything we have today. =)
though we're technically more educated now, i think our basic instincts for survival / wit / intelligence has really dropped. ie: stupid people, i believe that back then the per capita of morons was much, much lower as they'd simply be killed... LOL.
True genius resides in the capacity for evaluation of uncertain, hazardous, and conflicting information.
