Well for school I have a Dell laptop with a Dell mouse. I have no drivers for this mouse and there are also no updates available.
"Whats wrong?", you might think. Well when I press the 2 buttons on the side of the mouse (that are usualy used for next page and previous page in your browser) I go page up and page down.. And normaly when the click the mouse wheel on a link, the page opens in a new tab in your browser, or it allows you to scroll very fast. When I click it, nothing happens.
Does anyone has an idea how I can get drivers or something for this?
~Blazings
P.S. When I go to Mouse Configuration, I can't change anything that has to do with buttons.

Now here you are making assumptions about how all mouses with side buttons and middle click work... which isn't exactly the same way with every other one. I would think you had a mouse previously with the same functions as you said but your Dell one doesn't do the same. Get a new mouse for school, or nothing else can happen.
(Sometimes there might be a configuration thing for the specific mouse somewhere to edit the functions, but I don't know. Never had a mouse with side buttons before :O )
edit: Just tested that new tab thing and it worked for me, I never knew about that! Thanks.

You might try driversguide.com they have a lot of drivers up there. I go there when I need an obscure driver for something.

If you have the original Dell Windows build loaded, try going to control panel, Mouse and see if there is a tab for assigning buttons to functions.

If you give a mouse a driver, he'll want some firmware.
If you give a mouse some firmware, he'll want some more.
If you give a mouse more firmware, he will develop a taste for human blood.
If he develops a taste for human blood, he will become a vampire.
If he becomes a vampire, he'll have to make some followers.
Now, if he makes some followers, they will need to feed.
If they feed too much, the national guard will be called out.
If the national guard is called out, they too will become vampires.
If the national guard fails, the President will call in a nuclear strike.
If a nuke is dropped, hundreds of thousands of people will die, America will become a nuclear wasteland and collapse.
With no-one to keep the rest of the world's nukes in check, every crack-pot nation will launch their own.
Eventually the entire world will be destroyed.
That's why they don't have drivers for you, they don't want you to give your mouse drivers.

This is why Dell's are set aside from every computer, there just weird when it comes to hardware, its like any dell computer needs special software to hold hands and walk it along to make it do things right...but half the stuff inside dells aren't made BY DELL. I think dell has something in their BIOS that messes with other stuff, ive seen so many friend of mine with dells have to go driver hunting for there computer after a simple wipe and clean install of XP, when usually XP has everything you need.

Just wondering, this driverless dell mouse, does it have a name, model-name or serial-number?
It would be the first Dell mouse outside the generic-2/3 button ones to come without one. It would also be the first Dell PC shipped without all its software. It wouldn't be the first Dell user not to look at all his software though :-)

Yeah and I also have.. Vista.
Anyway, my old mouse on normal PC broke down and had to use another one untill I bought my G5. ALL those mouses had the same buttons and they ALL responded the same way.. I'm gonna try that Dell mouse on this PC (and hope it doesn't crash) to see if it also fails here.
And yeah, clicking the center mouse button for links owns. You can also click on your favorites in the top row (if you have firefox) and it will open in a new tab.
Totaly owns if you play for example Tribal Wars and want to open all your villages in different tabs to check them all out. Or open all new posted SS's in new tabs so you don't have to hit the back button (yeah I know, lazy).
But still, problem remains =(

Ahhh, ok. So all this mouse angst is really you trying to shift the focus from the real problem, which is VISTA!
It's ok. Most people go through this displaced anger phase while still in denial about having spent a way too large amount of money on Vista :-)
And keep in mind, if it weren't for Dell saying "No way" Vista would have shipped half a year earlier and even crappier.

Yeah as I said before, Windows should have kept Vista in-doors for another 6 months to get the bugs out.. and than realise they made total crap and just improve XP a little more.

Im not too much of a Vista Basher anymore, although i heard the new SP1 pack is bringing back every epic error again, i do have to agree on the ridiculous price, i've never actually paid for an OS, always got it via a pre-built computer (OEM right?), but paying 300 euro's just to receive a resource hog which will decrease performance in my games, photoshop and so on isn't welcome.
And as for the ''can fix its own errors'', riiiight, it still works on the same concept of XP, as that was on NT, as that was on 95', as that was on... you get the idea, its all -based and unintelligent to a big measure.
Still, if there is any consolidation, rumors have it, that Microsoft has perhaps seen the light, and instead of adding a few towers to their castle with every OS, they have decided to wreck it and rebuild it brick-by-brick,
how far that hope goes, i am unaware of, let alone it being a complete hoax, but perchance, Microsoft might have thought:
"Guys, we are adding sequels to our movies since the beginning of time, only adding some more fancy gimmicks and special effects, shall we just rewrite the entire storyline and ? And added to that even change camera shots?"
Who know's, the year is 2008, Flying cars might just be a reality by 2208 ;D

Whoah! Hold yer horses there bud. You're correct on NT becoming 2K becoming XP (which still has an NT version nr, 6. something), but the W9* codebase is something completely different.
The Windows NT team and the Windows 95 team
HATE
each
other.
Read this before making any further comparisons between the two, ok?

If you mean MS finally considering doing a modular OS and letting people buy what they want/need rather than having to buy an overpriced Server OS with code for games and a home-pc OS with exploitable server-code for e-mail sending (spambots anyone?), than yes. There's hope. Somewhere around 2010 we might see Windows 7 (codename, but funnily that would be the next NT nr if I'm not mistaken). There's even rumors of a 2009 Beta possibility.
Still, in all fairness. Vista is better than XP, though that pales in comparison to the hardware- and financial resources it hogs. In other words, a 25% performance boost costing 75% extra hardware resources and 150% more money...
Ok, enough tech ranting. :-)
edit: Correction:
W2K = NT 5.0
WXP = NT 5.1 (aka Chairo that never was)
Vista =/= Windows 6 (aka Longhorn that never was)
Windows 7 = Windows 7

Unless I'd be dumb enough to buy a "gaming laptop", I expect quality from DELL. Based on experience as both a private and business customer.
So far, I've always gotten quality for a good price from DELL.
With gaming desktops, office desktops, audio/video editing desktops, office laptops, SANs and blades all.
Do I always buy DELL? Hell no!
But for stock machines, they're the best on both quality and price.

About the windows thing, sure they hate eachother, im putting my mistake under the "Can Happen because of seemingly indifferent designs"
I installed Windows 95' and upgraded to NT, only to end up on Windows 2000 because NT lacked Networking options on my cute wittle server, i haven't noticed stunning differences between any kind, on the outside their all the same, but even on how they handled programs i didn't notice that much difference, the error here was the same error there.
Then again, im still probably sticking to the visual aspect mostly, i have told before, Im not a software Expert, i never will be, so go ahead and cry & weep in the corner, Forumite has Flaws!* (These flaws are a sign of impending doom somewhere in the far far dark grim future that is called Internet.)
| QUOTE | | But for stock machines, they're the best on both quality and price. |
Dell PC's stock stuff is good, Gaming Laptops in General Suck with a capital S for $, because they are just crap, unreliable, overheating problems, overpriced gizmo's & gadgets, and whatnot.
BUT HEY, if you wish to pay an extra 1000 or even 2000 for bragging rights, and 20 kilo's less to haul to your local LAN party which your mum drives you too, who am i to judge huh? :)

Yes Vista is better,if your machine has the specs, believe me Microsoft was grossly negligent when they put out the minimum requirements.
As for Dell, they are ok, but HP is much better in the laptop realm. Of course IBM (Lenovo) Thinkpads are the best but you will pay out the wazoo.
As for the mouse issue it sounds like a driver issue. driverscollection.com may be able to help.

Just thought of something, you are putting the mouse in the same USB port each time aren't you?
One of the more 'endearing' qualities of USB is that you need to plug it into the same port as it was in when installing the device or its drivers won't work properly.
