when i start my computer it goes to the login screen and the suddenly it goes all black. And after awhile it restarts itself...
please help.
Using windows vista
geforce 8500gt graphics card if its too any help.

You're probably not looking for the standard "upgrade your OS to Windows XP and try again" advice, even though it's the best I can offer :-)
Anyhoo, sounds like your viedocard may have a dead fan and it's shutting down the moment it gets hot (i.e. needs to do something). Or possibly you set it to a desktop resolution way beyond its capabilities.
Open your case and check if the card's fan is spinning at all or possibly very slowly. Also, does Vista still come with a safe-boot option? check the manual for that one.

Usually when my fan's jammed up, the comp just shuts itself and doesn't reboot. O.o

Well I heared yesterday there is a new service pack for Windows Vista. I installed it today and I have to say that it ran so much faster.
You can try installing the new service pack and see if that solves your problem.
I downloaded it here, but that's a Dutch version of the Microsoft site. Just click the "Downloaden" button.
EDIT: Crap you can't even log in to DL/Install it.. ehm.. I'll leave this problem for Lani and Forumite before I start to say dumb stuff that's not going to help you at all.
