Here's the deal, I'm starting to get a little borewd with Guild Wars. I've done nearly all there is to do and I just can't be entertained with it much anymore. So, I would like to try out a new MMORPG but I have no clue what. I'd like some opinions from people who have played others besides Guild Wars in the past or whatever. I'm sort of intersted in Final Fantasy 11 and i guess there's always the choice of WoW, but just tell me what you think.
Thanks!
Elmo
P.S. I"m not quiting Guild Wars entirely, but I just want to try something new until GW2 comes out, so don't think I'm abandoning this great game.
Too right mate, im totally bored with GW's, and no matter what things i come up with to try and change the gameplay (like, doing FoW, UW, or going into PvP) it just doesn't appeal at all, i've decided (during free time that is) to try out some games i haven't yet had a crack at, unless you are a die hard MMORPG fan, you can always go and play some other Game Genre's, there's more then just leveling up you know.
I decided to play Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (with all expansions) online aswell as offline, i had some guildies & allies who also had it, even though some only got the first game, its still alot of fun if you can play another game that Isn't Guild Wars together, refreshing really.
I've mainly been playing some new ones, like Tiberium Wars: Kane's Wrath, Half-Life 2 (Garry's mod, its hilarious), Universe at War, TimeShift, Alien Shooter: Vengeance (its lol), and even got that Audiosurfer just for the hell of it, there's alot more out there, and im eagerly waiting for Mass Effect & Assassin's Creed for the PC.
As for MMORPG, well me myself got a little spark of interest for Warhammer Online (not the 40000 edition), as it seems quite a bit of fun.
WoW is mostly made up of Grinding, as you might have heard before, so if that isn't your cup of tea, or you dislike spending too much time into your characters, you might want to look at other things first and foremost.
But yeah, there's alot of other games to play out there, and if you don't mind using forums or meeting other gamers, you can always meet up new people to play other games online, its not like Guild Wars is the only fansite based game! :P
I've tried out LotROnline, WoW, Tabula Rasa , and Swords of the New World. All 4 are good in their own right. SotNW is also free to place. :) You can buy the game for 20 bucks for a few added features, or you can just download it from their site. :)
I have over 250 DAYS worth of time logged into FFXI. It was my first MMO and I played from the PS2 launch in the US.
I love the game but find myself not having the time or money for it right now.
It is a great game but levels are gained by grinding, there is almost no quest/mission XP. I personally like it that way but I know this is a major turn off for many players.
To get some of the better gear you will have to invest a lot of time as well.
I love the Story lines and job classes. A lot of the content from the last 2 expansions are really fun.
If you want to give the game a try I recommend that you give it pleanty of time. I have seen many people give up on the game in the first month, at this point most people have only experienced about 1% of the game.
If you do decide to try it out hit me up and I can toss you a few tips on making money early on. I have played all the job classes to some degree or another so feel free to ask about them too :P

City of heroes is fun =]
*teleporting people next to you while you're at a height of 600y above the ground, and watch them fall to near death >=]* (they may die, as a monster might kill the last 1 hp of him ^^)
the character creation is awesome (you can create some really nice characters)
When i get bored with something, i make a new character just to style him xD
Then there's also costume contests (held by normal players) with some awesome prizes (made it to the last 6 once :D)
there are many badges to collect, many temporary awesome powers which you can only get after completing a certain mission.

RE: What should I try?
World of Warcraft.
Clearly one of, if not the best mmorpg ever.
If you like GW you will like WoW.
p2p sucks. But w/e.
I was in the exact situation you are in and switched to WoW. I love it now
im eagerly waiting for Mass Effect & Assassin's Creed for the PC.
mass effect is great 1st time through but becomes repetitive quickly (exploring the solar system where every planet/meteor you land on is identical o.0)
ive had assassins creed since xmas... looks/feels great but very boring..........
as for other mmorpg's cabal is fun :) im also in a bored patch with guildwars ;/ hope ends soon :P/
WTB: mallyx's perpetrtuity or snapjaws powerstone! plz whisper me ingame/1 thanks ^^ name in sigclicky>W/A KD CONDITION
Call of Duty 4, Crysis, Tiberium Wars, all games practicly are boring if you replay them, because you know what's going to happen, what usually makes it a bit different is for example Crysis, where you can actually lay low one level, and in the next map all enemies are sleeping/resting and just not aware that you're there.
RTS games usually feature some way or another different tactics to employ, but that's it, or chasing secrets/bonuses for extra medals and whatnot.
Few games that are non-repetive after the first time, my first official RPG Knights of the Old Republic was one of those, although the ''light/darkness''decision was far off (only at the final level it mattered, almost identical in the Sequel), atleast you couldn't invest all points in all spells, so if you went Light first, you didn't have all dark skills, and vice versa, so it had some profit finishing it twice on both sides, as it still had an impact.
Anyways, im just suggesting some other Genre's if you like them, im not too fond of playing games which only are about XP to level up, there's more like a good shoot-em-up or something like base/civilization building and so on, the each his own though.
i reccomend doing similair stuff as forumite. ive gotten bored so i just play other games. i got DoW with the expansions. scept WC and i play xbox live with a few games.
Wolfenstein enemy territory. free online shooter, Nothing special but every PC can run it and its great fun (patch 2.60 needed for many more servers btw)
BF2, always fun to fly around, bombing stuff, dogfights. alley fights in citys. Sniping in the open etc.
C&C Generals had given me hunderds of hours of fun, when you think you are getting good try it online, whole new world :)
Trackmania Nations Forever, Just released. Free online(and offline) racing game with the weirdest tracks, Great fun which almost every PC can run.
Buy a Wii with Zelda the Twilight Princess, Mario kart, Super mario Galaxy, Super Smash brothers (Wii), Wii sports ofc, and Mario party. You can't get more fun with friends ;P
this is all I'm doing lol. instead of GW
