Most often in MMOs I like to pick classes/archetypes who's sole purpose is DPS. Recently I decided to give Tanker a shot and play defensively for a change. Now I am totally lost. I have posted on GameAmp previously for some blaster advice and it worked out well looking for some for my tanker now.
I created and Invulnerability/Energy Melee tanker and I really like it alot. However, I believe I missed some important powers in my Primary pool. I picked the elemental and energy resistance instead of Temp Inv and Unyielding, I am only lvl 12, is it too early and premature to respec, should I wait til after I get my travel power to pick these powers up? I read the posts about the powers and most say they r very important.
Please help my tanker: what should I do about these powers?: I want to be a "hybrid" tanker doing both damage and defense/aggro, how do I go about this?
I would appreciate any advice on these issues and any tips you would like to add.
P.S. I get lost since I am still new to the game with some abbreviations. Please keep this in mind when replying, lol.

the one you should get first of those toggles is Unyielding. it has pretty good resistances, but the main thing is the protection from holds, sleep, disorient, etc. i think a respec might be in order, or maybe just getting them ASAP and skipping some other powers that you might get otherwise.
i think we might get a free respec with i12, so you wouldnt have to wait *too* long if you needed another one.

If you have the temp travels from the Safeguards, put off a travel power and pick up Unyeilding, then Temp Invulnerability as soon as possible. Once you can respec at level 24+, or if I12 gives a freespec, you can put the powers back in order if you want to. Honestly, it doesn't matter unless you plan on exemping back down.
As soon as you hit 18, pick up Invincibility, as it will offer great mitigation and make it easier for you to hit enemies, helping your damage output.

Unyielding: Mez protection. Very very very important.
Temp Invulnerability: Smash/Lethal resistance. Most common damage types.
Get them ASAP. They're more important than any other powers for a Inv Tanker, IMO.

Don't forget invincibility, which forms the majority of Invuln's exotic damage mitigation. Skip it at your own risk.

You can probably push forward using the build you have thus far. But you also could consider deleting the character and restarting him. 12 isn't too hard to get back to and shouldn't take too much time.
I wouldn't waste a respec because you are only 12. You picked a good primary set in invul because it has the least powers that are required to be successful tanking. This will allow you to get a few more attacks along the way.
The passives aren't bad to take, but can wait until later on because they don't yield much return until SOs.
edit to add: Take a look at my energy melee guide. It gives a brief overview of the set and some of the basics for slotting. I don't get into specifics for slotting because IOs have created the oppotunity for such diverse slotting between characters there is no point of going into it unless it's heavily discussed.

Combat Jumping will compliment Invincibility well, as well as help negate the -def from unyeilding. Super Jump is the best all around travel, with good speed and good vertical.
Then you want fitness for health and stamina. After that, its up to you.

I agree with Warron on this one. Super Jump (SJ) is a good power that doesn't add to the pre-stamina endurance problem. Of the two opening powers, Combat Jumping (CJ) is definitely the way to go.
If you want to fly, take Air Superiority (AS) as a tanker.
Usually at lvl 6, I take either hurdle or sprint to open up the fitness pool and help you get around a little faster in the lower levels.
