I'd go with what PanzerEXE said. I just started one myself the other day, and I must say that bots/poison is the easiest time I've had soloing with an MM so far.
You've got the debuffs and a heal all in the first few levels.

I have played both to relatively high levels,. though not in combination. Here's my 2-infamy's worth of free advice:
Bots: Take all of your summons & upgrades (obviously). I typically do not take any personal attacks and leave the offense to my pets. Repair is OK, but taking Aid Other from the power pool would be better: recharges faster and lighter on the endurance. Plus you already have a heal that you need to take anyway at level 1: Alkaloid.
Poison: Take the debuffs enenom, weaken, and neurotoxic breath. Definitely take paralytic poison. Take elixir of life if you plan on teaming. Poison trap is a sleep and I think most sleeps are useless. Noxious gas is a great debuff, but only works if your pet is in melee range - most of the time, bots are ranged attackers so this power is a toss-up.
Power Pools: Leadership is a must. I would take the Medicine Pool. Fitness is very helpful as well since you will be spitting out debuffs quite a bit. Medicine Pool is good as it will add a pet heal and a useful self-heal.

I have a L30 bot MM. I agree with the above post, dont take any of the bot-line attacks, just take the bots and upgrades and whatnot. The last thing you want is to attack and draw aggro yourself. Leave the attacks to your pets.
I got a bot/dark MM up to about 22, then re-rolled because I had unfortunately taken all the attack skills (two rifle blasts and a grenade toss). All it did was a tiny bit of damage, and huge amount of aggro. I died all the time! :)
The thing I love most about MMs are that you end up with lots of free power slots available. You will be able to take several different power pool abilities without messing up your main skills.
As to the power pools: I did take the Leadership skills with my first build (part of why I re-rolled). I found the damage and accuracy buffs to be horribly small, and a huge drain on endurance. My personal advice is to avoid them. Although I know some players say they are good, I was not impressed. Invention Enhancements give a much larger bonus, for no endurance, than you get from any Leadership powers.

Ahhh poison, one of the most villainous sets, reminds me to finish my necro/poison, although i dont have much experience with poison, i do with bots and the MM class in general, i suggest holding off on leadership until you can afford it end wise becuase from my experience with leadership and what ive seen of poison MMs the two dont mesh well becuase of both having decently high end costs and even then the debuffs from poison shadow leadership buffs something big, making them almost unnecissary, although, dont mistake me, still decent. as a bots/posion i do beleive that it is a necessaty that you do grab medicine pool and i also suggest some way of pulling to a poison trap or using an invis to put a trap in the middle of a mob becuase the hold and sleep is great migitation specially in a team, i also highely suggest Noxious Gas becuase its debuff is just to valueable against an AV or EB

I'll throw in my 2 inf here. . .
Having gotten my ninja/poison to 50, and am just filling him up on IOs.
Alkaloid: a handy extra heal, probably don't need this too much unless you wanna team alot, or would rather skip repair for this.
Envenom: your 1st debuff, and the nice setup for when you get weaken. -res, -def, -heal and -regen. Very potent and great for higher ranking enemies.
Weaken: the 2nd part of the 1-2 punch of these debuffs. -dmg, -acc and -2ndary effects. Makes them hit less and softer, and GREATLY reduces any hold or stun they'd throw at you. Hit by a malta stun grenade after they've been hit by this and that stun is off before you find your break free.
Neurotoxic Breathe: you're 1st crowd control power. Nothing too special to it, just a nice slowing power, with a small chance for a brief hold. The power I use to start off a mob.
Elixer of Life/Antidote: you're (funny) rez power, and a mezz protection for pets and allys. can either be skipped or taken later depending on how you plan to spend you time, teaming or soloing.
Paralytic Poison: You're single target hold. Handy for stopping 1 particularly annoying enemy from attacking for a bit so you can deal with the rest of a mob, or just stopping a runner.
Poison Trap: have this power, but greatly considering dropping for something else. Can sleep and hold and end drain enemies, but its interruptable when you're laying it, thus making it not easy to use mid-battle. And it doesn't make enemies throw up either like the same power from the trap set.
Noxious Gas: THE power of the poison set. Makes elite bosses and up go down like they were a minion. -res, -def, -acc, -dmg and a chance of vomiting will occur to any enemy who inhales the fumes. While robots are primarily ranged pets, just send all or the 1 with this cast on it to melee and watch enemies melt.
