Picking Up Objects

Man if this is addressed in a patch or maybe in City of Heroes 2 but imo a HUGE thing lacking in this game is the ability fomr Tankers or anyone with super strength to pick up objects like cars, trucks and such and throw them or use them as weapons.
That is such a HUGE part of comic books I find is hard to think the developers left it out of the game. My son who is 7 poointed it out saying to hit him with a car and then I was like wow? I don't think you can do that.
Forgive me if I am missing out on something here to be able to do that but I see nothing so far.
Anyhow I love the game so far been about 2 weeks into it.

RE: Picking Up Objects

The skill Propel from the Gravity Control set allows you to throw things. However, it just kinda materializes something at random and then hurls it at your enemy. It's not like you can pick up something from your surroundings.

RE: Picking Up Objects

I can understand your point of view. I do think it would be fun to pull a light post out of the ground and deliver some justice upside the head of your enemies, but that would require some extensive programming. To have a completely interactive enviroment take a lot of restructuring and designing.

I do however think they turned the corner in the Mayhem Missions where you can go around blowing stuff up. I am certain they have more suprises for us in the future, maybe they can figure a way to add more quality of life to the game.

As for hitting someone with a car... you could always roll a Gravity Controller. There is just something satisfing about hittings someone with a forklift that just makes me laugh.

RE: Picking Up Objects

Isn't there a Tanker power in Super Strength called Hurl or something like that where you rip up a section of the floor and chuck it at someone?

I'm sure it's not a prefered power for a Tanker, but I didn't always follow the cookie cutter on my builds. I usually left at least 1 or 2 power slots open for something fun in even the most efficient build designs.

RE: Picking Up Objects

That brings up another thing in itself. I read allot about how to build the perfect Tanker or what powers to pick to build the best Blaster. I guess to each his own but when I build a toon I build it with a certain charceter concept in mind. I am not trying to build the most efficient desgin I want to build the charceter I have thought of in my head. Will he be the most powerful maybe...maybe not but it is what I want him to have. I guess that is power gaming

SS has Hurl, and Stone Melee has Hurl Boulder, both grab a chuck of ground beneath you and chuck it at your target.

Yeah, a lot of folks get caught up in the whole "Perfect Build" mentality. When in all reality, you can have less than a perfect build and just be a good player on this platform and still devastate the game.

To be sure there are baselines for every character and AT to make a solid toon, but there is tons of wiggle room that folks rarely take advantage of. Some powers are simply too ammusing to passs up even if they aren't the most effective ones in the set. And sometimes, the Role Playing character in us comes out.

Sometimes you have to look for that "Perfect Fun" not perfect character build.

Back on the OP. I like the idea of a more interactive environment. It's been an issue brought up since the beginning. That is where the safeguard missions spawned from. It's too bad that the changes would have to be too intensive for them to code it into this game.

RE: Picking Up Objects

I have to agree with all on this. Picking up a car and tossing at a baddie would be great, but the program would be a.... well.... you know.
I did like getting the hurl pwr for Daddy, just cause it was a long range attack, to pull, when I was campaining alone.

RE: Picking Up Objects

i dont think it serves any real purpose other than amusement (i.e. damage, progressing through the game) but if you have the power Telekinesis as a mind dominator on a villain's mayhem mission you can cast it on a box i think and float it through the air.

RE: Picking Up Objects

I'd just like to state that at one point before the game came out they DID have hurl in the ss set just pick up whatever was around you... in fact the original power deion states "you use your super strength to pick up an object around you like car or lamp post and if you can't find anything you rip up a piece of ground and hurl it as the enemy"... but eventually it got toned down to just picking up a big chunk of concrete...

then again this is also when you couod hit people THROUGH walls...

RE: Picking Up Objects

It would be a programming and lag nightmare, but it would be cool to have scaled damage as to what you hit someone with.

I loved when the gravity troller threw stuff and it stayed on the battlefield. At the end of a big fight there was trash and junk littered everywhere.

RE: Picking Up Objects

i did this with a friend of mine in a safeguard mish:

use propel on one enemy so there is a large object.

defeat remaining enemies.

position yourself between two cars and your friend on the other side of the parking lot between two other cars and you can play soccer!!! run up to the object and it will move, get it in the goal!

or for added fun, leave some enemies around so any AoE or cone knockback powers will hit the object (gale, repel, repulsion bomb, etc) and move it really far.

its hilarious.

Sorry, but the Flying Toilet trumps all other "Propel Objects".

The best part is that it is a dirty toilet.

I forgot about the Flying Toilet! Gravity Controllers are just fun to use. Who needs Singularity when you can summon the all mighty DIRTY TOILET!!!

RE: Picking Up Objects

well i like that they added the propelled objects and leaves being able to move around, so who knows? it might be the next step. we all thought they weren't going to do character transfers but then only a month or two later they announced it was going live soon. they might surprise us yet!
