When I create my toon I already havea theme in mind. Usually it is from a character I had in Chmpions RPG. I always flesh out my backgrounds. I write at least a paragraph sometimes a page worth ala the Marvel Universe comic book write-ups/back grounds. I think we all should do this.
It feels good when your in the game and you get from other players "Nice Bio!" or "Nice Background" Makes you feel good that the time you spent writing and thinking of this toon someone else also enjoys it.
I also read lots of other backgrounds of players and if it is good I let them know.
I have had the game less than one onth and I have had quite a few playters commnent on my toons background's. Now I just want to get into more role-playing of the game and maybe join a group that is inline with my toons background and really start some good role-playing.

When it comes to making a character I love writing their backgrounds.
I agree it always makes you feel good when someone compliments your efforts. As for the Roleplaying aspect. I never get into it. I like to make the characters and design who they are.
Virtue has a large group of Roleplayers. May want to look there.

I have a toon on there. I try not to make too many tons I try to make a different "type" of toon I only have 4 so far.
I have a Brick/Tanker on Liberty up to level 7
I have a Blaster who I want to fly on Virute who is level 4
Then I have a "dark" toon like a Batman/DareDevil type and then one whos goal more of a team type toon called Machine Smith. The last 2 are level 1 and I wont start with them until my 1st 2 are up to level 10.

My characters are unplayable to me if they don't have a background. Sometimes it takes me a little bit of time to actually type it in the box, but they won't leave the creation screen if I don't have some clear ideas about their history and purpose. I try to roleplay all my characters, but it depends on the players I am teaming with. If they are not into it I will keep quiet as well and just go with the flow. But I am definitely having more fun if I can really crawl into the skin of my toon and for a while really be the kick-ass villain I envisioned her to be.

The background is where you start with making a toon, it gives you a name, costume style and choice of powers. I find it odd when you see someone with a 30, 40 or even 50 level toon with no background. They've spent a lot of time getting there but are missing part of the fun. You don't have to write a novel just a few words will help you to know your toon, even if your not into roleplaying it helps you to get into the whole hero thing.

RPing is fun if you make it fun. i had a character that i RP'd a lisp for.
"Wow, guyth thith ith thuper-fun thankth for athking me to join your thuperteam. Let'th kick thome ath!"
it was hilarious. but i deleted him because i didn't like his powers. maybe one of my others will happen upon a lisp.....
i also have a character who focuses his magic through classic harry potter spells, to slight annoyance of non-RP teams.
