So, I was looking at the Newegg newsletter thing I get, and I noticed i could get Nvidia's new 9800GT card for $130. I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether or not i should get it (I have to get it by today if I do, cuase the promo code i have expires at midnight. Stupid 24hr sales...).
Here is the card.

Don't really, unless you got any less then an 8 Series card, the 9600 is a ''budget'' mid range card, the 8800GT or the new 8800GTS 512MB use a different core which is faster, the 9800 however, is better, but where not talking about that one.
Too bad Nvidia doesn't yet use SLi like ATi, where you can place two cards of different generations in combination (has flaws, but hey its a start!)

I was going WTF??? until I saw it's not a 9800GT but a 9600 and the world makes sense again. I'm biased against SLI myself, because of earlier generations of the concept sucking chocolate brown 'spheres'. I forget what the ATI system's called which shows how impressed I was with that. :-)

crossfire x i think, they also got this new gimmick going on where an ded gpu works with a dedicated gpu, about 15-25% increase in performance, though its still very rumored about and hiding in shadows mainly.
but yeah, they're getting somewhere ahead of nvidia.

Ah, but 1-1 Crossfire already exists. And ATI'd better be doing something to tweak nVidia's nose, since they got bought by AMD both brands have been on a slippery slope imo. I mean, the 1950 outperformed the 8800 series throughout 2007 due to nVidia "doing an ATI" with their drivers and nVidia still sold more.

I think it'll be an improvement. Is your old card AGP 8x or PCIE? I'm never sure with ATI's as they supported AGP a lot longer for the same chipsets.
It's a nice card for a nice price, not spectacularly though.
It's got a good chunk of memory. I like 512 MB, 756 and 1024MB still feel decadent to me :-)
I don't think you'll regret the purchase if your current card's a 128 or 256MB one.
