OK... new problem, not sure why (could just be that its the 14th not 17th...) but when I start AoC it just goes to a black screen with the sound and everything working, I can tab out, the error console works etc but its just... a black screen.

When I tab out and back in fast enough for a split second I can see about 1/4 of the screen then its just black again =\.

Quoting so you can't delete your question again :-P

Is all you get a black screen? Not the annoyingly long sequence of one brand logo zipping by in 3D visuals and sounds followed by a rather gory introduction movie?

Ehm, that sounds like some hardware issues.
What are you System specs CPU, Mory Videocard, AGP / PCIE and what OS you're using e.t.c?

One very important tweaking tip I can give you right of the bat is to
Defragment your harddisk between isntallation and play!
It really made a big difference for me when I did that. Like 30% performance gain.

Just part of it, but I don't think more is needed.

EDIT: Also, now when I try and start it, the launcher goes up as normal, but it sits on downloading patch information, when before I could start the game =\.

EDIT2: Nvm, patch server is down.

RE: Not even out, and they're already giving me problems =P

Good to hear it got working on its own as I could find nothing wrong with your DXDiag info. Your drivers were even up to date :-)
I can run the game on pretty much the same system (Only difference is a 3.4Ghz DUO Core Pentium) on Medium or High. Main issue I had (client side that is) was my memory really could do with being the maximum I can take without needing 64 Bits. But my mobo is limited to 2GB Bleeeh! Should've seen that when getting the PC. Oh and I updated to SP3 which should give a slight boost.

Well, It is out now, and giving me problems.

I have exactly the same symptoms as the guy below. Black screen during ads etc. It does eventually get me either to a movie or some sort of splash with mountains in the background, but never get to see a login screen. Sound works fine throughout.

Well, both of us that had the problem got it fixed by updating the graphics, not sure about ATi but check their web site to see if the drivers have an update.

Ouch, ouch, ouch.
Mkae sure your ATI Drivers are up to date and you defragged your hard-disk till AoC is in one big continuous chunk, then it might run.

Sigh,

I guess it is not meant to be.

Yes it is a laptop, and this is the first game I have had an issue with.

Defragged hard drive
Uodated Video driver via 3rd party (HP OEM driver. ATI will not support) using a tool called Mobility modder.
