In the end of March my PC started to crash to nasty blue screens of death. It looked like my USB modem was the culprit originally, but as time went on and they became more frequent it was probably something else. But still thought it would be a good idea to upgrade to a proper router in stead of old USB modem. But of course I was postponing it.
The blue screen got worse and since my PC is getting old anyway I decided to just buy a new PC. Yay me. I ordered it early April. A lot of drama later (I'll spare you all the details) my new PC finally arrived this morning. Mind you, since mid April my old PC had actually died completely. I haven't been able to my fury upon the Isles ever since.
All this time I was planning to switch ISP and get that snazzy router, but never did. So this evening I sat down to really get back into thing on my new beautiful PC with its Windows Vista 64. Only one step was remaining. Installing the old drivers for my USB modem.
The installation CD actually did all kind of stuff, but after 10 minutes it concluded it couldn't do it. So I went to the ISP's website (on a really really old PC that still can browse the web) and found out that modem can't work on Vista!
After four weeks of waiting of waiting for my new PC I still can't use it. Aaaargh! I had plenty of time to switch ISP but I didn't. How could have been so daft?
Of course now I started calling around. But apparently switching ISP is not so easy. You have to ask for a MAC key, that takes for whatever mysterious reason up to 5 working days. Once I have that I can call the new ISP and order their stuff, which of course would take another 5 days, drama, drama, drama.
So in the end I called my current ISP and found out they actually supply new customers with free router. So I called them, and fortunately the same offer goes for existing customer too. Only draw back is that I stuck for another year with them. But since they have been pretty good that is no biggie.
What is a biggie is that I can't use my new PC till the hardware arrives. And with my luck that will not be till late next week or the week after. In the meantime the Rogue Isles are just keep moving on without me.
The only thing I could do is give myself a new avatar *snif*

Nah, I am mostly a victim of my own stupidity. And victim of the general lack of good/fast service by any English service provider. The delivery company will probably even be the most efficient bit of the whole disaster. No self respecting company is actually using the post office (ie. Royal Mail) anymore.

It's not always the post guy, the guy on the phone sends the order down to the storeroom, the stores guys goes looking when he "get's time" and then hand's it off to the post guy when he comes in the morning. Up to two days there ;), I've been most of the guys above.
But thanks for the idea for my next villian,
The Postman.
After years of years of stress and blame from the public and the boss he snaps and "goes postal!". Vowing revenge on people with small letter boxes, bad dogs and hidden house numbers he escapes to the Isles.

Play.com does :-(
But then, they also don't become suspicious after failing to deliver a DVD box 4 times to the same address.
