Helpful Hints

Hey there...just thought I'd create a post for helpful things that folks may not no...mainly for noobs like me. >.<

To start off:

/camp logs you out instead of exiting game

F9 shows you your current locaion in coordinates

Treasure! There's a treasue chest right behind you in the water when you start...so go claim your first phat lewt!

When in White Sands - Day, run into the water so you can't be ganked on a PvP server XD (Can't be attacked in water.)

If you're having problems with fps, try turning down/off shadows. This one setting seemed to make the biggest difference for me with lag.

I don't know why this keeps being perpetuated...
Every quit option in the game logs you out, provided you wait the full 20 seconds and don't hit "Exit now", which exits the client. Camp really is nothing special. You can use the Quit option in the exact same way.

Here's one I found useful:

Hitting ALT will show Hotbar '0' You can make your life easier in the early levels (1-20) by putting combo's there that need Top-Left, UP and Top-Right to hit/activate.
That way an "ALT+1, 1" will do a quick left-side combo, and an "ALT+2, 2" and overhead. "ALT+3.3" a right-wing.
For some reason, there's not many left-side combo's (at least not early on). Something to consider when setting your shields in a PVP area/server.

So........my account was frozen and i never got to play or anything :( I went through the trouble of preordering and all that and i dont get to play today. The company didnt send me an e-mail with an explanantion or anything. Im feelin a lttle pee-pee hearted, and i thought i might share that with somw folks

They should have informed you that pre-order alone doesn't give you those 6 days early access but lets you play at launch day (comming Friday) just as everybody else. You needed to order early access separately through Funcom themselves, and it wasn't available to all pre-orderers.

Pre-order really just means you reserve a box and possibly a pre-order item if you bought the pre-order version rather than pre-ordering the regular version. Game stores always (purpsoely imo) muck up their version information.

Well I live in the U.S. which launched today. I preordered at gameco which who very unclear about the prelaunch. But i got over that and went to log in today but no such luck. So i went to my account page and checked my subsription status. I then discovered that my account had been frozen with no way to renew. I quickly went to my e-mail where i discovered a message from funco that was the reponse to my questions about the preorder. This is when i realized that even if i sent them something immediateley it may be till friday before i actually get to play. I did send them an e-mail but i am a little disgruntled to say the least.

Did you participate in the Early Access?
- If so, you need to change your EA account into a Retail Account using the key that came with the box.
- If not, you need to create an account first. It's pretty hard to create one that's frozen immediately.
- If you're trying to reactivate your OpenBeta or ClosedBeta account, that's not going to be an option. You need to make a new account using your box' key.

Any one who wants to play a Mage, I love my Herald of Xotli.
Very very fun. Im now a lvl 12. And the spells are a hoot.

I added this on the other thread. But thought i would put it here to.

To get your drinking cape and rings. on the Charator you want to have the stuff. In game type /claim

To get the mammath you have to first inter the key onto your account. Then also in game type /claim
mammath cant be used till lvl 40 so you might want to wait to claim it so as not to take up space in your bags.

Still, Funcom is the company that has had the Historically Worst Launch Ever...

You're playing a Mage, means there's a bugged Quest in your Destiny line (Night time stuff) that's bugged. Dialogue just doesn't work at some point. You can get around that by leveling in day-time to Level 14. You then get the option to skip part of your Destiny Line.

All the Night Time stuff is the remnants of the original idea to have the first 20 Levels be a Single Player game you could skip after going through it once. It's no longer Single Play and afaik you can't skip either.

Im playing a Herald of Xotli. And I think its just that class that is haveing issues, because I've made a dark templer, and a preist and no issues have been poping up.
On my mage:

My sword is free floating on my back and in (haha) hand.

My hair keeps changing, once im bald, then its the short cut, then its somthing else... once and a while it stays the way i made her. And show threw my hoodie :D

I keep poping a leak?? Green goo spurts from under my right arm pit. Very funny. btw Not sure if that is suposed to happen or not.

My one aoe fire spell keeps casting. So its on all the time, un less i cast it to turn it back off.

Body parts dont show up with certain gear. I will be fine.
Change into a pice of droped gear. And then i cant see part of my legs, or arms.

I really think it has to do with the shape shifting.
So i decided to hold of on playing her for just a short time and see if they can get the buggies smushed. :D

My other two toons i have made DO NOT have any problems like this so far.

Helpful hint.

FINDING YOUR FRIENDS.

Last night my son and I were playing. Went to meet in the first town. Same Server, same spot. We were grouped and chating in group. Couldnt see each other at all, and were seeing total diffrent ppl around us. SO...
We finaly figured out, with the help of Funcom fourm that like Guild Wars each Town has diffrent zones. To find the zones you have to go to the little down arrow by the mini map. It drops down a list of names, make sure your in the same instance. :D

I remember this being an issue in Open Beta, but I never found a Interface option for it as people kept asking for- and getting the command line option to see your zone. Naturally I've forgotten the command :-)
Is there a convenient way to switch zones as well?

Oh and Green goo from your armpit? Ahm.... Not sure if Axe Dry will help with that!

Destiny Quest Bug is only for Mages (it's the dialogue with the Magic trainer that goes fubar) so your assorted priests, healers thugs and rogues should be fine :-)

Howdy Lani,

If you click on the little arrow to the left of the mini map, you get a drop down list of all the zones. So you and your group have to pick the same zone, and poof. :D

So i had to upgrade my graphics card just to play, and it still lags pretty bad. But it it looks stunning and is very fun thus far. My guy is a guardian and i am level 8, iota is his name. I was watching my gf play though and she is an assassin. It looked cool cause her missions related to hiding and eavesdropping and stuff. Thats cool that the missions are different for different char classes. i dont know if it is gonna stay that way past the intro but i hope so. The fighting system is pretty fun and the blood is exciting, i really have not gotten that far, as my guy still doesnt even have pants lol. He wants to do the one big mission where at the end he is awarded his first pair of pants :)

Here's one I learned earlier today:

If you misspent Skill Points, say you're in a level 30 group and discover everyone but you has been topping off their Run skill each level, or you're 10 points shy of the Climb skill you need for a particular ladder with extra slippery rods, you can "unlearn" Skillpoints by going to your skill-pane (P) and hold the ALT key.
If you hover over a skill it will get a reddish background. You can then hit the - (minus) to unlearn skill points. Note: This does cost money, not sure on how much though. I'm still pretty fuzzy on what's much or little money in this game.

Another thing.

With the Pre-order Rhino (and I assume the mammoth too) also comes a belt you can use for more storage space. If you're waiting with /claim until you're 40 you might want to reconsider. The belt gives a whole extra page of inventory, something that's immediately useful at level 2 :-)

You have to drag it to the bag item bottom-right in your inventory pane.

Oh, thanks be to the Gods! By Ymir, I'll never get close to 1G for the training by the time I hit 40.

Another new one I stumbled upon by accident:
Being in my mid-20s now, I find myself running out of actionbar space for combos, etc., and was looking for a quick solution to tide me over before I finish my own custom UI.

Low and behold, I discovered that you can extend the 2 additional action bars (available via options/interfac/HUD) from the default 8 slots...to 20! :)

How bad is this money issue really?
Without trying to hard (been shopping for alts and Phe on the auction house when it opened) my Level 25 Barbarian has 5 Silver to rub together. Assuming normal monetary Level progression (I.e. about 100 times the adventure levels in order to ensure instant inflation) I would expect to get my first gold together at 30. I will probably have to spend it on equipment around that time, but going from there to 5-10 Gold at 40 should not be impossible me thinks.

What am I missing?

Respec costs, I've spent a good 1.5 gold on it so far lol, almost to my first gold (72s atm) but its slow going considering all the drops atm are only around 5-10c =\

If your haveing FR problems try this. It was on the AoC site, and it helped me alot. I was pulling about 15-25 fps
and after i changed it im getting about 30 up to 55.

Go to Video Options.
Click "High".
Go to the Advanced Tab.
Disable shadows completely.
If you are on a laptop, scroll down to the system texture cache bar and maximize it.
Click Apply, then OK.
When your FPS drops, make sure it's not the shader bug where it reverts to 3.0 from 2.0.

I don't have framerate issues, I think. I have actually no idea what my fps is. It all looks beautiful, and that's what counts for me. But maybe I can still improve it further. I think my shader is set to 3.0. Is 2.0 better? Or does it depends on your videocard?

- Shadows: very heavy on GPU processing. Huge resource saver to turn it off.

- Texture cache: only use this if you have a laptop. This is meant to compensate for the classic shortcomings in VRAM (memory for your videocard) on most laptops. It will be slower in most other situations since hard-disk is slower than memory.

- Shader: Use the shader model supported by your card. Geforce 8 series all support 3.

You can also select Low & Medium rather than High to get a better Framerate btw :-)
I'm on Medium with a few things tweaked towards High (well, a lot actually) and some turned off (shadows).
