Well, my brute is Energy/Invul, and I really want him to become a PvP toon. However, most PvP brutes I see have Mace as a PPP in PvP, and it got me wondering, can I still PvP as well as others with GW as a Patron?

I don't see why not. The only thing that they would go with BS is for the Shield.
I would think that the Primary and Secondary would be enough to get you by without totally relying on the Patron powers to make a big difference.

The reason most people go with scorpian is becuase of the Web nades that they get, which can stop jumpers, GW is a distant 2nd in pvp, but it is second for a reason. the damage isnt resisted as much, also the immoble in the set, when 6 slotted 2imm,2rech,2acc can stack twice, enough to immoblize most squishies who rely on CJ for immoblize resistance, allowing you to get in and disorient, also the -ToHit meshs well with defense or resistance aswell as giving a good place to slot various procs and IOs
