An acquaintance of mine said that the blood widows, before and after the night widow transition, are like a scrapper for the redside. Is this correct?

Yes, they seem to play similar to a claws scrapper. They have a couple ranged attacks, but from my limited play so far, melee seems to be the way to go.

Plays like a claws scrapper, but damage is like the spines set, causing lethal with toxic DoT. The melee attacks are much more varied than the ranged, but they do the same type of damage and they are good for pulling or starting off a fight.

I agree, ! have my widow at 12 (I know nothing special) and so far it's Basically a sprinkling of Primaries: Claws + Spines(hands only) + Martial Arts (all I know for now.)
You get to slice and dice then for afters some poisoned darts that resemble tiny spines for pin cushioning your target... OH happy Dayz :D
