Farm Nerf

Omg, i just heard this with a farming buddy, that family Farms were nerfed, meaning that the influence and xp points were severely dropped, as for me, i got very disappointed. :(

What would a true farmer do...? Complain...? Protest...?
guhh idk im just so mad, and i need influence too

RE: Farm Nerf

to be honest i think this was inevitable, with the spamming/emails from gagora farmers, the developers were bound to have to do something. Ive heard that much worse may be planned because of it. That missions may be limited to just being allowed to be done once wether you complete or not. Its a pity that we all have to suffer because of so few. Though i'm not really into farming myself. I have been know to enjoy a few farming tours ;-)

gratz to developers on the new issue ....

RE: Farm Nerf

There are PLENTY of farming missions out there. The Family one had pretty much zero risk and all reward. They dropped the threat level of high level Family to be like Prisoners.

If you need to run missions for money, run some repeatable missions from RWZ, Cimerora or whatever.

About time. I support anything the Devs need to do in order to reduce or eliminate those gold spammers on the servers. Such an irritant. YAY for I-12!

RE: Farm Nerf

Just to continue what Ron said: they didn't do it to nerf the farming. They did it because they thought the family bosses everywhere gave more XP than their threat justified. It was in the release notes for I12. It had nothing to do with farming. My demon farm i have still does just the same. So does the freakshow or praetorian arc.

*nods* Freaks and Demons still offer a threat. Elemental damage, rezing and whatnot. So they should give normal experience. Family are mostly Smash/Lethal damage...no real threat in the high levels.

RE: Farm Nerf

He's probably referring to the Portal map in the world where the Freaks took over. It's one of the maps where you have to search a strange dimension for rifts and "seal" them. That mission and a few other Portal missions have large outdoor maps that can fill with hundreds of Freaks if you have a large team.

RE: Farm Nerf

Maria Jenkins "To Save a Thousand Worlds" arc. Tina McIntyre is spoken to one mission before the Freakshow mission. However with the self-rez and self heals the Freaks do, coupled with the size of the map, makes for a very slow farm. You might want to consider a CoT demon world farm instead.

Actually, the Freak self-rez is the reason this is such a popular farm mission. If your freak gets up and you have to defeat him again, you get the XP again. If about one Freak in 10 gets up and makes you defeat him again, that's 10% more XP per run through.

If one freak in ten rezzes up, it takes 10% longer to clear the map. Hence it balances out and is still slower than other farms. Demons and Mother Mayhem ftw.

Actually, the time spent resetting the mission is considered down time. That's why the largest maps are used. You're not collecting the mission bonus. In other words, in the time it would take to do the CoT mission 10 times, they would only have to reset the Freak mission 9 times.

Of course, most farmers are pretty efficient about resetting the mission. The first are back in by the time the last person even loads the PI map.

I haven't really farmed (Because I don't have the right ATs at the right levels yet), but I have always liked Orenbega missions. Nice tight tunnels make my AoEs and cones go WHEEE!

The farmers are asking $40 minimum. I can open another real account with $18. You have to pay them before they will show up to transfer the influence. Where exactly is this alleged kick in the pants? It seems to me that getting caught in a sting could be very profitable.

How much time does it take to get another level 50 on a new account? How many characters did they have on that account? How much money and items did they have on those characters? How much time and effort will it take to rebuild all that?

How valuable is it to see what information is put in for farmers? Over time, couldn't PlayNC use this to figure out the trends of which characters might be gold farmers and not regular players?

Of course, now that trial accounts can't be used to send globals, anyone that sends a global spam could be deleted immediately thus hurting them that way too.

Purely from a "personal" stand point I find getting these farming emails from "gagora farmers" totally offensive. I use the game as "my time" to chill out & relax & to have a little fun from a busy day. I am mature player whose wife is pretty ill so needless to say I look after her. So the game lets me have a very needful break. Then I log on to find I've a stack of emails from people I don't even know. Unasked & unsought emails which invade "my time" and privacy thats I pay a monthly fee for. To say the least it makes me angry, I do think the developers could & should do more, but as much as I enjoy a good solid farming mission and I've done many in my 2 years - If farming missions were nerfed completely, for example a dramatic drop in xp & influence when u do the mission again, or stop the ability to do a mission more than once. There are "times" (times equals disclaimer there ;-) ) when I think it would be a small price to pay to stop them.

I completely understand your sentiment though I also respect the challenge the devs face when dealing with the small few abusers in a way that doesn't ruin the fun for everyone else. Sometimes they make very good decisions (like ED and the new changes to trial accounts), sometimes, not so much (like preventing anyone with inactive accounts from posting to the forums).

It's never easy when you're trying to simultaneously appease over a 100,000 people :)

RE: Farm Nerf

I've never been big on Farming a mission over and over and over... I don't get into the "WOOT I GOTZ LEWT!"

I run a mission for one reason. That is what my character is supposed to do. I usually try to have a concept for every character I have or they will just sit there in my selection screen wasting space. I like to read the story
lines and see how my characters fall within the story.

Everyone has there own approach to the game, and it is fun to everybody for diffrent reasons. For me when you get into the whole farming for drops, it's to much like work. I already have a job, I don't need another one.

So if they have made changes to the missions that are better for drops and XP then so be it. People have adapted to all the changes they make so far and this one won't be any diffrent.

As for the Trial Accounts being adjusted. They obviously felt like this is how some of the RMTs were getting in game so they made some restrictions. I haven't had one Email or tell from a RMT since Issue 12 went live

RE: Farm Nerf

Well folks, It's been a long time since I've posted because it's been a long time since I've logged in regularly to the game.

I have a couple invention enhancements just because I wanted to check it out. But the game had gotten so bad on my connection that I had pretty much given up on CoH for good. (finally upgraded to high speed..... might give it a go again!)

Y'all got crafting and commerce as had been asked for since the inception of the game. And with that, you got the abusers that go along with it. I've been on WoW for some time now, and these are old issues with that game. Still getting addressed with almost every patch.

With any new system there are a small group of exploiters that are going to prompt game changes for the majority of the players that are playing "above board". And in many cases, they end up hurting the honest players in the long run to end exploits. The developers cannot make changes that make everyone happy, and in the efforts to end exploits, they might just have to make changes that make a majority of the players unhappy, just to stop it. Don't always assume that there is some magic code to stop the bad folks that makes the whole gaming community happy. Because basically, there isn't.

Sometimes everybody has to take one for the team.

It sounds to me that they left a lot of great farming missions out there, some folks just need to do a little research to find a new one. And you are in the right place to do that. I've already seen several recomendations handed out, that include contacts(Credit points to be handed out shortly!).

I just found this one topic fairly ammusing. I'm one of those players that puts gold farmers out of buisiness on WoW. Materials, levels, gold....... I don't need outside purchases to fill up on any of them. And now, my first MMORPG has finally advanced to the point that the new feature they begged for year after year, is bringing in the occasional mini-nerf that has folks sweatin.

As I found in my tenure on CoH and in WoW, nerfs only affect the poor player. The really good players always find a way to overcome and adapt to any changes. I remember when ED was the end of the world. No one would ever be able to complete a mission ever again if they nerfed us like that..... After all the hype and panic, it was barely a speed bump in the devastation of mobs and missions.

Peace out, and roll with the punches folks. There really isn't a game change that will slow ya down.

Once again, my tiny ED support argument: I loved ED. Until it came around, I felt like a fool to slot for anything other than straight damage. Now, I'm forced to since I can only 2 or 3 slot for damage.

I actually loved ED too Jorden. The game had so many cookie cutter builds. And that change made people think. Granted, there are still cookie cutters, but there are many more of them, and much more diverity of slotting once folks had their minds expanded.

Y'all will survive these mini nerfs until the gold farmers and exploiters get quashed!

I was always nice to the RMT gold sellers. I even tried to invite them to team with me. Bunch of stuck ups always declined.... So I spammed them with invites until they logged out.

Beautiful!

On a side note, if you are looking for a farm on Freedom Heroes, beware. There is a single gold spammer playing 6 accounts and will charge 2 million for a lvl 50 mentor farming demons. HORRIBLE DEAL! Don't help the gold farmers!

2 mil and your mentor is level 50??? That really is a rotten deal! You could get a level 46 mentor for that!
