Stuff to do in the 40's

I'm looking to Power level my highest villain (and by power level, I mean get him as high and as fast as I cant, not by traditional pl'ing).

I know on hero side I can run 40's through the portal arcs for great exp (everyone wants to kill portal villains and there's no travel either), but I've never been in grandville before. Any tips? Anything I should definitely do?

Note that I will take my time in grandeville with other villains, but I want to get at least one to 50 so I can play the epics.

RE: Stuff to do in the 40's

The 40's is some of the coolest times for a villain, so make sure one/all of your other toons get to really taste it. I think enjoying the 40+ content is going to be way more fun than your VEAT. But having said that, it is your game, do as you please.

I think the quickest way to level is going to RWZ. Try to get on teams doing mothership raids, or simply dull Borea missions. Probably running paper missions in Grandville on ruthless (second highest) repeatedly will work as well.

But I still think you should do the fun story arcs and patron power arcs. The saying 'time flies when having fun' really applies here. It might take a few days longer, but at least you'll be have fun doing it.

Well, if I did that, what would be the first thing to do? I finished up all of my contacts in Nerva and I don't think I've really done anything at all in St. Martial (I'll have to be more careful not to level too fast in Nerva next time :P)

Should I go for mayhems so the broker can introduce me to someone in there?

RE: Stuff to do in the 40's

Once you reach level 40, and be allowed to talk to people in Grandville I would start your patron power arc. You have to be level 41 before you can actually pick a patron power (villain version of the epic pool), but you can start the arc at 40. The person to see is Arbiter Daos, I think. He is the guy standing outside the main building (behind the big statue of Lord Recluse). Once you have completed the first part of the patron arc (it continues once you reach 45), you'll have do to a few paper missions to get new contacts from the broker. There are also a couple of very cool special contacts, like the television. Check the contact page for the details to get these contacts. But even regular contacts like evil Westin Phipps and his quest to get rid of a poor school teacher is not to be missed. Of course you should still go to the RWZ as well. Although you are more heroic than villainous there, I still think the quest from the drummer and that other (45+) are pretty cool.

I think you're right PHE. I should take my time. The epics will come... even if that means I probably won't get to tinker with them until my next play month after the one that just started (whenever that will be).

RE: Stuff to do in the 40's

It only took me a month to get to 50 from 40 and I solo'd 90% of the time. There is so many contacts in GV so you will almost never run out of stuff to do and if you do you can always solo newspaper or RV missions.

RE: Stuff to do in the 40's

And, if you run through all your contacts before 50, running Warburg mishes (destroy supply depot, on Relentless) has always been a choice way for leveling quickly. It's definitely a bit more tedious, but the XP/hour can be much higher than more traditional means, especially with the PvP Mission Bonuses every couple of runs.

However, it takes a very specific build to do this successfully. If your damage output isn't fast or high enough you're better off teaming with someone or turning down the difficulty.

Anyways, that's my personal method, for what it's worth. It's definitely not for everyone.

Whichever way you go I hope you enjoy yourself.

Cheers!

I took about the same amount of time and it was all in Grandville doing the story arcs.

It was a fun time, good stories and all in all about 3 weeks to go from 40 to 50 with 4 nights a week playing the game.

That's good to hear. I might even be able to go a little faster with my second account character helping me with damage and heals.

RE: Stuff to do in the 40's

Your Patron Contact will have a lot for you to do involving a lot of EBs or AVs depending on your difficulty. Plus there are Broker missions, then there is the Rikti War Zone missions.

If you are going to haul your 2nd account around with you I suggest you have Recall Friend as well. Grandville is not a nice place for any level character. Ecspecially ones without Travel Powers.

The first villain O mission is so hilarious! I haven't done any O missions past the first on either side though (hero or villain). Maybe I should.

As for recall friend, I always have at least one character with recall friend so I don't have to have both of them travel. Either that or I pair fliers.

Thanks for the tips :)

I found that one of the best ways to get through the levels real fast is to just farm the pillboxes and longbow in Recluses victory till 45 and then keep farming and sometimes u get invites and tells to bridge for PLers, took me about 2 weeks to get to 40-50 playing friday and saturday nights only

That's definitely how I'm going to get my second account characters to 50. As soon as I hit 45, 46, the bridge requests come in. Ah... bliss.

RE: Stuff to do in the 40's

This is great. I just got my first villain to Level 40 and was going to ask the same questions Jordan did. I've been selective in choosing my contacts so I'm able to enjoy full story arcs without out-leveling them. My character, a natural DB/WP brute, doesn't really fit thematically with any of the patron pools and I was wondering if it was worth it to choose a patron anyways even though I doubt I'm going to choose any of the patron powers?

Welcome to the site and good question!

Since I've never had patron powers, I don't know the answer, but I guarantee you many other here do and they'll answer it (probably pretty fast).

Now to see if I beat Phedre to the welcome :)

Edit: Woot! Yes I did... Course, she's an admin and could probably move my post below hers...

RE: Stuff to do in the 40's

Absolutely! My DB brute is in the same boat. She is 43 now, and I have already another power scheduled for 44. So maybe at 47 I'll pick a patron power as filler, or maybe even not. But in either case you definitely should do your patron arcs. Your ultimate goal is to be the top villain afterall. And what better way would get you there than over the back of Lord Recluse's righthand men?

Thanks for the welcome. I've spent most of my time blue side but, like you, the VEATs really wet my whistle. So I dusted off the brute, Foxy Roxy Brown, I made when issue 11 dropped and have been leveling her pretty much non-stop for the past two months.

Nice way to put it. Well, that settles it, Black Scorpian has a new lackey (once I get home from work). Mace Mastery is the only thing that fits in my mind for a natural background.

I don't know Phe, I would check the logs if I were you. Might be some haxxing going on. . .

Also, I think it's my job to "Un-Welcome" people to the site now because none of the other forum junkies seem to want to keep up the tradition. So, on behalf of everyone, Un-Welcome to the site Robo.

Feel free to steal a cookie. The maiming given to first time cookie thieves isn't too severe, so there's absolutely nothing to worry about. (I've only been caught three times myself. I have the welts to prove it, too! ^.^ )
