Villain Epic Archetypes can only be described with one word, EPIC.
And now that I found out how to compress my huge Fraps movies, I'll be making videos of CoV with specifically VEATs featured. Woo!

I am really liking them, only got one to 24 at the moment (went Night Widow). Working on the Fortunata and the Crab on the side, but liking them all so far. Have noticed a huge diff in teams with 2 or more veat's in them.

I love my Bane Spider. I'm still short a few enhancements, but with a few tier one inspirations I can solo a boss one level above me with very little trouble. Unlike the Hero side epics, if you can call them that, I can solo with little to no problems, and when I team we are practically invincible. True to the saying, being bad feels so good.

I am loving my level 24 Arachnos Soldier and level 12 Widow however finding non-VEAT teams is insanely difficult. I can only imagine how these new ATs will be in PvP when fully slotted with preemo Recipe sets.
Mmmm looking forwards to watching some VEAT on VEAT PvP action as I am often to poor to afford good recipes so will probably never have a bofo slotted VEAT, PvE will still be easier.
Long Live Arachnos and may the Heroe's fear this new Villain Epic for a long time to come Bwahahahaha! (insane evil laughter)

I'm loving both the Soldier and Widow. However, I'm going to focus more on the Widow (i just like the mainly melee feel to start). Want to start branching off ASAP so I can get that Night Widow up and moving aroune the Rogue Isles.

I love my Crab and I love working with other VEATS. Last night I was fighting lvl 43 enemies at lvl 37 and hiting at 95%. It was nothing to take out a group of purples with a couple crabs, widows, a stone brute and a MM.
I do need to get hasten though. Recharging time is fairly long for my nuke and pets (I probably won't get it till 44 though, I want to be a mini MM 3 spiderlings & 2 Arachnobot Disruptors).

So VEATs don't have custom enemy types that destroy them like Kheldians? That's a bonus right there.

Well now at least at level 20, with the second costume slot, I can make my Arachnos soldier look like something else than another anonymous member of the faceless army of the nameless clones.
The costume engine is one of the best features in this game; with the VEAT, you are totally deprived of it for at least your 1st 20 levels and that's pretty disappointing to me.
The VEAT is powerful, yes, but basically in the end just a rifle blaster; the very least interesting AT in the whole game for me. Thus the play has been going well but really ho-hum so far.
I still have hopes for improvement when reaching the second career. Many thrill about the ''awesome power'' you get at level 30, but then again every AT is powerful at 30+ (I remember how my Grav/FF controller was so squishy before, a pain soloing... then boom! quasi invincibility and eeeeeasy soloing). Moreover, I am not much into tweaking and minmaxing for maximum power; I always work with concept, not game stats (to each his own). If I don't enjoy the character, I don't care about the power.
That is why I prefer Spider-Man over Superman.
But let,s see what the future holds...

Yes..In fact, it is Brick's second mission that he GIVES you the costume slot so you can disguise yourself as a hero. Plus with the halloween salvage, you can have 3 costume slots open at level 10, 4 at 20 and all your costume slots open by level 30...

Well, just dinged Level 24 earlier today and I branched off to the Night Widow.
I am now feeling Stalkerish. All I need now is to have the AS option. I must say, the different options and bonuses they give is enough to make any team very UBER!

When it comes to VEAT's, I must say, I detest the first 24 levels. Regular SoA's are extremely boring to me. However, I branched off into Bane Spiders today, and they are AMAZING! I don't even have cloaking device yet, and I loe their damage.

Yeah and I got stuck against my will with a stupid jazz dancer costume totally unable to alter it until level 20. And at that level you don't get a third costume slot... unless you use Halloween's option like everybody else.
I'm nearing level 23 now so I should be able to get out of the boring blaster portion soon and really start to enjoy an original AT... hopefully, as far as I have read from others.
At least now I look different with the second costume slot.
On a side note, I found out why I couldn't change the second slot appearance; it seems that the costume engine rejects your new choice if you alter the facial features or body proportions of your toon. So you do get stuck with the looks you have but at least can dress yourself differently if you don't try to alter proportions.
So far, Kheldians felt much much more ''epic'' to me and great fun from day one. But let's see where it ultimately leads.
At least, widows are much more fun and interesting to me as I much prefer scrappers over blasters. But the clone syndrome is still part of it, unfortunately.

This is true but when I first heard what the VEATs were going to be I immediately thought "Wolf Spiders and Widows? Wait these guys are EVERYONES whipping boys" I mean on both hero AND villain sides.
Since then I now have a lvl41 Bane Spider build and I am working on an Arbitor type build (similar to Sands, aracnos soldier with some mace) so I am finding the VEAT builds very easy to customize into something I like and find challenging.

The only problem that I'm having at this point, currently level 27 with my Widow...too many power choices and too few slots to choose. It appears that I may have to forgo the PPPs in order to get some of the neat little powers from the Night Widow/Widow sets...only if I didn't have a need for Stamina, I'd drop the fitness pool altogether and use those 3 slots for extra power choices....decisions, decisions.

Keep in mind that living without stamina is a lot like living without using credit. It seems impossible until you try it and then you discover it's not that bad. In fact, you like it better in a lot of ways :)
My Mastermind doesn't have stamina and neither does my warshade. I think I have a few others without as well, but nothing is coming to mind.
And with the introduction of IOs, that has become a lot easier.

To me, it is exactly the opposite.
The void mercenaries are like the much vaunted archenemy concept the Champion Online will propose for every AT and that so many are wowing already. They offer :
- A unique, different feel from every other AT right from the start
- An added challenge as thrilling as when you venture into PvP areas, watching for powerful enemies that can and will jump you anytime.
- Contribute to play balance in relation to the EAT advantages over regular AT
- Promote group cohesion and heroic support as you want to preserve your teamates from them and they in return want to protect you against their deadliness (I can't count how many times i blasted void hunters off the street, even grey ones, just for the sake of helping a Kheldian somewhere in the vicinity; talk about promoting heroic behavior!).
- Stimulate your experience as a player to a new level (that's why players with Pled, trained and other bought toons don't like them and drop them often before even reaching Dwarf Form: they not only are confused with the various powers and forms but also don't know how to deal with the new, constant danger as they haven't learned any tactics during play).
Now, I don't say I necessarily miss them for the VEAT; it would have been only a repetitive formulae and villains deserve their own specific challenge and context. However, something like it may have lifted the impression of banality I feel from the VEAT. At least up to 24, it just feel like basic blaster (soldier) or scrapper (widow) play.
I should be 24 with my Arachnos soldier tonight, so hopefully it will get better.

We do have a rather large achilles heel as I'm find out....
A ranged crab is the definition of a end hog. I can empty my end bar with one volley of my attack powers (despite having a 5 slotted stamina and several recovery bonuses).
I can even over come speed boost's recovery and get the end bar down to 1/4-1/2 with hasten on.

Interesting... As I am more a hand to hand crab than a ranged one, I have no problem at all with end with stamina with 2 slots.
Now that I have reached 24 (26 in fact this morning, 90% soloed)I must say that NOW I like it.
NOW the look and play is different... and the story arc is still pretty good. And i can be out of the generic look of one anonymous member of the nameless army of the faceless clones.
But... The grueling first 24 levels as a barely souped up blaster with severely limited costume availability were soooo boring that, for once, I wouldn't have minded being p'led!
Having to wait 24 levels to make the VEAT interesting is a huge let down. And the ''epic'' feeling is simply not there; nowhere near what the HEAT provides as, right from level one, you are able to do things no other AT in the game can do at your level (fly TP), and, as soon as level 6, do things NO other AT can do (shape change). Moreover, the special enemy and exclusive storyline complete the feel of being a very special character... and you can appear anyway you want.
All of this is sorely missing, at least in the Arachnos soldier.
We'll see if the nightwidow VEAT is any better; at least, for the scrapper/tanker/brute that I am, it starts less boring the way it is. But that is just a personal preference, not any inherent value of the VEAT.

Speaking from both perspectives, Widow/Spider, I don't think you have to wait until level 24 to get that "Special" feeling or powers/abilities no one else can have.
From the beginning, we get a costume no option no other AT can have :) During our early stages, we have team defense bonuses that no other AT can have or provide (defense/attack/accuracy/+per). We can get another costume option at level 10, no other AT can do that. Heck, we didn't have to go through the whole Breakout map. No other AT can do that.
The VEATs have a lot to feel "Special" with. Also, if we put a full team of VEATs together...TOTAL CARNAGE! The HEATs can't claim that, as they NEED the other ATs to be special, the VEATs are special all on their own and provide their own Buffs and team Buffs. See, we make ourselves and our teammates perform better...especially in the lower levels. Once we hit level 24, depending which route you want to take, the options get even more interesting to put together. With my Widow, I'm slicing through things that some of my other ATs used to have a challenge with.
And to speak on the VEATs nemesis...It may not be so subtle as the HEAT/Voids, but when I get sent to take out the other Destined Ones and have a level 40 Boss in a level 35 mission, I think that is going to make things a little more interesting in the later levels with the VEAT Arc.
I'm hoping this type of 'curve' continues to be thrown throughout the higher level missions to keep things interesting. I'll keep ya posted on how this turns out. (thanks for the assist Rainah :) )

- Well feeling is totally subjective; I'm glad it came early for you. Please enjoy the fun; for me ,it simply was not there, even when I teamed up with other VEAT.
From the beginning, we get a costume no option no other AT can have :)
- True; that is cool. What is uncool is that you are stuck with it with almost no options (standard or custom only). That was severe punishment for my creative urge, to be forced into the faceless army of the nameless clones while by definition the VEAT is supposed to feel special among the rank and file...
During our early stages, we have team defense bonuses that no other AT can have or provide (defense/attack/accuracy/+per).
- True again... but I didn't get any special feeling from it because it is too much in the background and levels 1-10 already have a ''feel of power''. But I must admit I soloed most of the time... which was no problem with the HEAT to keep feeling special (hey I can fly/teleport and I'm in outbreak!).
We can get another costume option at level 10, no other AT can do that.
- Because of the costume constraint I guess; small consolation for me; and because of some bug, I got stuck with a stupid jazzdancer suit I didn't want until level 20 and the standard costume mission.
Heck, we didn't have to go through the whole Breakout map. No other AT can do that.
- That is from the arc story wich I find the most interesting thing of the VEAT. I don't find breakout to be a bore (much quicker than Outbreak on blue Side) and you can always skip it if you want; but the VEAT arc story is very cool.
The VEATs have a lot to feel "Special" with. Also, if we put a full team of VEATs together...TOTAL CARNAGE! The HEATs can't claim that, as they NEED the other ATs to be special, the VEATs are special all on their own and provide their own Buffs and team Buffs. With my Widow, I'm slicing through things that some of my other ATs used to have a challenge with.
- To me, that's 4 quarters for a dollar; team only with your kind or team only with all the others to be at your best. A good thing in both cases, but again, irrelevant if you solo as much as I do. And it may be hard to feel special if you have to team with 7 other people looking just like you... instead of being the only one of your kind among all of them to do what you do and as good as you do and look as you do. That is what i find disapointing in the VEAT.
And being powerful and all is fine... but every AT can be powerful and to quote Syndrome: '' when everyone will be super... no one will be. ''
And to speak on the VEATs nemesis...It may not be so subtle as the HEAT/Voids, but when I get sent to take out the other Destined Ones and have a level 40 Boss in a level 35 mission, I think that is going to make things a little more interesting in the later levels with the VEAT Arc.
- Will it be different from any kind of team going relentless? I wonder...

- Well not that all of it is not interesting... (thanks to the arc story); just disappointing in comparison to the HEAT. It should have been really different and special ( as it is now being Crab Spider at long last) much sooner than 24 levels.
Please note that I am not saying the VEAT aren't special; they are, all the way from the start. What I'm saying is the feel of it is too long in coming for my taste.
But then again, it is all subjective. If you enjoy it, I am glad for you. The game does offer much for everyone anyway already...

So I finally made 50 on both accounts this weekend and I made a pair: Spider (destined to be crab) and widow (night widow). I needed to pair a ranged attacker with a melee so I can play both together (It's easy to play both characters if only one is melee and the other ranged using assist targetting).
I put a lot of thought and time into the character design and binds and I'm having a good time. I'm glad there's the occasional VEAT story arc though, because they are in no way as epic as the HEATs (flying/tp in outbreak was a highlight of my hero career), but I'm only level 8 so we'll see.
In either case, I'm finding them to be fun at least because they have some fairly strong buffs (self and team) from the beginning and that happens to work well for me because I play them in pairs. If I didn't dual account, I can see myself being fairly disappointed. The widow is almost identical to my claws/Nin stalker (which is the only stalker I have and it's almost the same as the VEAT, go figure).
