Almost 1 year ago i bought my ( at that time ) new computer with Windows Vista 32 Bit. Latetly my computer was running very slow and i figured i should get some new memory. I had 1 GB Memory and i got a new 2 GB card. So finnaly i got all the money and bought the card yesterday. Now the problem : The card works rlly well with other games but when i start playing GW every 10 to 20 minutes my computer freezes completly and i have to restart it by pushing the power button. Now i was wondering is it couz of the new Memory card or is it just a error in my Guild Wars ? Tnx in advance if you can help me
Not sure if its needed to say this but yesterday evening i installed the new Nvidia update. Just as some extra info.

had similar thread some time ago..
i had these kind of problems once I was sold wrong kind of memory.. (freezings and blue screen crashes)
as i said to Suria then:
- if your 2 slots use dual channel for faster memory output, be SURE to check that even if the ram is supported that u can actually put 2 of them together at same time!
- Test if gw works ok if u take new ram out.. if that is the case, the u may have poor or unsupported compatibility with new ram/motherboard..
- or it could be related to Nvidia update.. was those crashes prior to that update? or after, may be corrupt/unclean install then..
^hopefully u get things working

Tnx for the reply Pierced. I do have a few questions though. First of all how do i find out if my slots use dual channel couz im not that computer teqnich lol. Second of all ( my own stupid fault ) I went to a computer guy to put my new memory into it and i forgot to ask the old 1 back so if i take my new 1 out my vista cant even run on it anymore =( And about the Nvidia update i finnaly got the chance to buy Assassins creed but i thought to update my Nvidia first and before that GW was running fine. But after i installed it last night around 11 o clock i didnt try GW anymore untill this morning. And last of all thats something new but it happens alot more when im in pvp ( like aspenwood and AB and RA ) then when im in La or kamadam. But ill be sure to try those things out and see if it works =D
-Sparky
Ps : you got any clue why it only happens on GW as i play Star Wars galaxies and Manga Fighter and some other games 2 but nothing happens around there. They are not running slower or freezing

it could be that the nevest Nvidia drivers have some kind of compatibility issue with GW.. as Atis support pages always have stated: Update only if you are having problems
-> read drivers known issues info
now it can be the other way around..
- oh so you only have 1 memory stick now. But you are sure it is compatible / right kind of memory for your motherboard?

Proabably wanna make sure the ram MHz matches up and the type, don't wanna mix 2 different types of ram.

They probably won't run in Dual Channel because what i know Dual Channel only runs when you use two of the same Pair, so 2x 1GB-2GB or 2x 512 all works, it has to be the same brand in order to make sure no problems occur.
2GB & 512MB won't work, they sell ''Ram Kits'' at stores because they are selected in pairs by the manufacturer, and are (usually) tested that they can run in Dual Channel.
I'd say rip out the 512MB Chip and see what happens :)
P.S If you are Unsure, it probably says 2GB or 512MB on the Chips, if not, just take one out, boot up, and see what your Computer says regarding RAM space, usually at the BIOS startup you can read it, if not, go into Configuration > System :) (CTRL+ALT+DEL might work, but it often also displays Virtual Memory)

"Mumopugars" are generally known to be RAM devourers, so even if they conflict it does not always have to be noticable, until one of the Chips gets used and an error occurs, i had the same problem once with Bad Sectors, name your game and it worked, but anything that sucked RAM like Photoshop made a Blue Screen + Restart :P

You should find out what the max per slot or max ram your comp can handle. Not that it would matter here but for future reference.
You could also try a system restore back a few days before you installed the Nvidia driver, just to see. Also check in Device manager to make sure there is no conflicts. You will see a yellow ? or !. Depending on what O/S you are running.
Good luck if that does not work keep the updates coming and we can try another avenue.
The Dual channel all depends on your mother board. Just because it is Dual does NOT mean they have to be the same in size. If your motherboard allows it you can run 2 different sizes, BUT you machine will only run at the lower of the 2 speeds. For example in your case you may have 2.512 of Ram but since you have 2.0 and 512 you will only actually be running at 1024. That all depends on your motherboard, which I am sure you could google your type of mother board and find out all that info.

Starwars is almost the same as far as REQ and what is pulled from the machine. Why I would not say it is the Ram. Like Forumite said it may be a conflict somewhere.

Again tnx for all the replies. With all the help i tried the following things :
- Took out 512 Mb ( took me 2 try's to get the right 1 out )
- Used system restore to 4 days ago to make sure Nvidia is rlly gone.
The only update so far is that Star Wars Galixies decided to join GW and crash after 10 - 20 minutes 2 now. The computer store is closed for 5 days couz they are moving from building so ill have to figure it out with you guys :D So if there are any more ideas bring them on =D and if the problem cant be solved then ill have to w8 5 days and get it to the computer store ( curse the bad timing exams coming up ).

Do you know what type of Processor and mother board you are running? What O/S as well? What type of RAM is it? We can basically check to see if there is a conflict just by getting that info and looking it up
Ram should say on it.
Processor Start Menu/Control Panel/Performance and maintenance/System
I am assuming you are using Windows
Or if you wanna go the easy route DL this little helper. I have used it and had no problems what so ever..Clicky Clicky This way you could just post what u have if you can not find it.

Let's play another card, remove the 2GB one and put the 512 In it again.
"IT" Could be that you actually got a bad stick of RAM now, even if not, might aswell test it before we dig in even deeper.

That's because 512 MB isn't alot, what Operating System do you use? Vista? Though XP probably also has some difficulties with it.
Guess if you cant test it you might wanna go back to that PC shop with the receipt anyways, they will probably check it out for you and all that, you can also use Memtest, i haven't ever used it but some people say its good enough.
Could indeed be its just a case of awful RAM, dont bother looking on the chip for damage, most likely its something internal.
If not, did you overclock/underclock or changed any settings in the BIOS since your new Component?

Well first of all i wanne thank you all for the good help and the fast replies. Second of all the problem is `solved`. I took out the 2 gig card and my uncle putted the card in his computer and expierenced the same problems =S ( wichs means blue screens and freeze ) does that mean its not oke with Vista and other stuff inside it or does it mean its just a error in the card itself ?

Hey, you had a point so don't feel bad, 512 + 2GB can work in Dual Channel, but it wont give the best results.
Anyways, seeing as the most logical flaw would be either the new Chip, or the Update, the best thing to aim for was the chip, and we're both right.
Atleast he can be happy, if he has the receipt that is, these things usually come with ridiculous long lifetime warranties :D
