I've only got Poitain for now, and I need to do a few more passes to see if I got them all. Especially those Cotton bushes can be hard to spot. Luckily my trusty Killer Rhino 'Nosey' redeemed herself from being just a fluffy pet when I discovered the advantages of extra height while prospecting.
I know what each node is, so once I've done those passes i can start color-coding the dots. Then it's on to the other two zones.
For beautifying the map a bit, does anyone know the name of the font used by the game for the title and whatnot?
I'll also look into possibly finding and extracting those map marker coordinates from the user files.

That's what I been looking into. Looks like if it's a txt-file at all 9which is something I doubted from the start as that would mean txt-files per map and a db table would do the job better) it's stored server-side.
I checked which local files got updated during one of the sessions. Only texture cache and some logs. No MAPPOINTERS.txt or anything red flagged like that.
You might want to confirm the server-side profile theory yourself by making a map entry on Trinneke's PC and then checking if it shows for the same account on your own pc after logging.

Odd, I browsed my application data and did not see a Funcom dir. Hmmm. Will check again later.
I spent time prospecting in the Cimmerian hard-to-remember-the-name Valley which I'll have to do a few more passes on I think as it's a bit more hilly. First I thought there wasn't any Cotton bushes at all, until I suddenly found one. So there must be more me thinks.
My main concern right now is to gather the data and get maps made up, I'll see about hosting those xml files after.
Assistance / collaboration is welcome.
I need someone who can do me a template for the map's backdrop. You know the stuff Gameamp's famous for. I got a general lay-out set up, but I suck at the actual artistic stuff like colour schemes and such. Will post my sketch later then start begging at EG's feet :-D

Wierd!
I have a: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Funcom\Conan" which is empty, but not one for my own username. I'm on XP Pro.
Checked Default user and Administrator as well. No Funcom in Application Data...
Could you give me a full filename for one of them? Then I'll do a search. It's got to be somewhere.

Laceish Valley:
Now, on to Lotus Swamp tomorrow-ish, then some once-overs during my weekend. Which only partially aligns with the normal weekend :-)

Make sure you are looking in \Local Settings\Application Data for the funcom directory not the application data thats located directly under the user.
PF3020.xml would be one, but they only get createn when you have one or more waypoints on a map. The four numbers seem to indicate the map. With some testing I could probably find the number belonging to one of the maps you now have waypoints on.

Looking good lani =D, would be nice if you could color code them for each tier tho. (as in, ash sandstone etc T1, granite electrum T2, oak gold T3.)

oops! Didn't see the Local Settings bit :-)
PF2070.xml seems to be the Poitain map.
Here's the code:
If someone could try pasting that unto their version of the file (or create it from scratch) and let me know if that works? I'll have to replace orichalcum with Duskmetal I understand, but that's for step 3 :-)
Edit: Oh nice the display of CODE isn't working properly. You'll have to "Reply" to get the xml code. Bleeeh.
Well, when this is all worked out I was going to do links to xml files anyway.

Ah, sorry Ataxia, but after you've gotten someone to make a Guild Wars city's map from compass screenshots, you tend to think of them first and last and always when it comes to your mapping needs :-)

I love it when a plan comes together :-P
I'm cleaning up the xml for the three zones now (consistent naming of Nodes, Veins, trees et al) and EG will be getting me a very nice framework & legend for the maps over the weekend :-)
Just need to host those images and xml files somewhere that doesn't reduce image quality as much as Gameamp does these days, but then I'll set up a FrontPage (left side menu) for them.

Although it took about 12 hours total to get these maps marked (and they're still not fully complete I think) I did enjoy it very much and I managed to complete all my Tradeskill gathering quests for Tier 1, with the exception of the Skinning / Brindled leather one. But I was not hunting for that. Seems to me "normal" beasts, i.e. non-prey actually drop leather way more often.

Great work Lani.
It would be great, if we could supplement eachother, I seem to have some in purple lotus swamp you dont have and vise versa. But i guess that would be hell of a job, to make sure we dont have some double.

Meh, not so dumb really as we didn't explain about that all to clearly, and you're further handicapped by using Vista.
First thing first. Vista ^4Bits isn't THAT different from Vista 32. The main difference is Vista 64 doesn't go tits up if you add more than 3Gb memory.
What you do is, look for the following directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Funcom\Conan\Prefs\\Waypoints
Where is the name of your windows account, hopefuly not administrator :-)
And where is your AoC login name.
If you browse to it, you'll recognize it.
Save the XML-files linked in the above mentioned post there. You should now have the Markers on the maps.
If for some reason Vista places the files elsewhere and that is a distinct possibility... You are in luck! Because... Vista sacrifices Productivity, Performance, your hard-disk's lifespan as well as that of the World's Rain-forests in order to provide you with lightning-fast Desktop search. Wheee!
Simply do a Search for the XML-Files:
PF1040.xml is Laceish Plains
PF3050.xml is Purple Lotus Swamp
PF2070.xml is Poitain
And replace those with the ones linked above.
I'd appreciate it if you could tell us where Vista stores the files.

Cool beans :-)
We should get the maps done this weekend.
Then I'll be able to set up a nice 'official' page for the maps and include instructions on where to save for both OSes the game runs on and a bit of an update procedure as well.

Hmmmmm. Looks like Funcom's got the same idea we have.
Did some digging around after this. Turns out it's a non-working feature. I.e. some nodes will get an official FunCom icon and text-field, but they don't save between sessions. I also learned a German Guild put out their XML files and way-too-large maps as well.
Ours will be much nicer though, and in English :-)
