To buy GW or wait for GW2?

GW seems like a great game, but GW2 is coming soon... I think. Should I still get GW, or is it a waste of my time and money?

Well GW2 is coming out in 2010, so if you don't need a game for two years wait. Otherwise I think that there's definitely enough time for you to get your money's worth in GW, even if you only buy one or two of the games.

You still have quite a while before GW's 2 as far as I know and I dont really see the point in buying GW's 2 unless you have played and enjoyed the first otherwise you miss out on some of the background, races etc etc. but its entirely up to you. In my opinion you should definatly buy atleast GW proph.

I must use my staff powers only to annoy.

although the current character from GW's has got anything to do with GW 2 (by that i mean can't transfer you current character to the other game you have to start again) but i would still get the original because it simply awesome to play and you will at least get used to the type of game play you will experience in GW 2 plus there isn't an exact date yet from what i know ( if anyone does please tell) so it could get delayed so you have to wait even longer for it

plus there not thats expensive for all the of the GW series and expansion

If you want a headstart with things in GW2 I would get GW becuase you get rewarded for maxing titles, but if you do not think that you want to grind titles I suggest you wait.

That's just the Beta. Actual game is predicted to come out in 2010 at the earliest.

Could still get pushed back :P Ive waited almost 2 years for Killzone 2, just found out they pushed it back to 2010 now :(

Id get at least 1 of the GW, just so you get to know the mechanics better. So you could have somewhat of a head start when GW2 comes out.

I wouldnt be surprised if it was pushed back some.

Spore: Been pushed back time and time again, it now has an announced release date of Sept. 5th 2008, all previous dates were unofficial estimates, this is an actual official release date so it will likely stay the same.

Starcraft: Ghost - Kept getting pushed back for years and is now "indefinitely postponed".

Starcraft 2: Though it was not announced until about a year ago, developement started in 2003, meaning they went 4 years of working on it without saying anything, now its been a year and they still havent announced a release date.

That being said, if Anet is anything like Blizzard (after all the main company creators came from Blizz), then GW2 will be released when its done.....probably wont have a set release date until the game is already finished.

(I personally hope it's done as soon as possible. As I'm going to army in about 3 years which I plan to make a career of, so I won't be playing much games after GW2.

It's up to you dude, joining gw would be cool for ya, you can join all of us waiting on gw2 while you beat the games and quest and stuff, you got another year or 2 till gw2 comes out.

This wasn't the case though with 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl' that game still had flaws. Theirs a difference between actual development and putting something in the freezer for 4 years ;]

On-topic: GW is a great game, even if you buy one chapter, you'll still enjoy. My advice: just buy one, they're pretty cheap atm!

hmmz, I don't get the Anet guys >_<, first they said Beta will be in early 2008, may/june/july, and Gw2 will be out in octobre novembre, or early 2009, and now it's gonna be 2010 at earliest? Wth..

with the release dates, who knows, no one can say an exact date but it will be awhile but if you get started in guildwars you will get info and clues on release dates getting closer and also joining in a beta when it gets started but I say atleast get prophecies, tons of fun with storyline, gameplay, ect. and then you can get eye of the north and with that you can unlock special items and stuff that you can take over to GW2, so why wait while you can get a good head start now and have fun ;)

you play missions, which is the storyline.

if you have completed all missions, you have beaten the game, but you can still continue by doing the same with harder foes (known as hardmode).

you could also start to PVP(person versus person), so fighting other people.

so you can "beat" the game, but the fun is never over :D

You can "beat" the storyline missions and quest. There are other objectives that you can do where it could go on for a very long time. You can go back or do other activities as much as you want. Also PvP is never ending.

Guildwars is a Story Line MMO... but even after you do all the storyline quests and missions you can still run around have lots of fun. At the end of each game you can get a reward item in which you trade for an end game weapon. Some games also have special end game armors you can buy and other stuff.

Lv 20 is max, but you still continue to gain skill points every time you earn xp to where you would of gained a level.

Lvl 20, depends which campaign you play, and how much:

Example, you play around 6 hours a day, i mean alot, then it would take with no experience:

Prophecies = we're talking atleast over a week here, excluding help.

Factions = around 10-15 hours, excluding outside help

Nightfall = around 20-30 hours, depending how fast you pick up the pace.

well wait so your saying after lvl 20 I can't go higher? that sucks. So what if we make a lvl 20 guys in Prophecies but continue it in the Eye of North then can we go higher than lvl 20?

a lvl 20 max cap is what i find so good about GW.there is almost no grinding in GW unless you want to grind.even so if youre lvl20 youre not the best. unlike many games you win via your skills and experience instead of higher lvl or better equipment.

if you can get any of the games for $15 or less then its probably a good choice buying them at full price at this point isn't really worth it.
