Won't see SOE doing this (but they should)

QUOTE
Greetings,

Server issues on the day of an update are sometimes a sad truth in MMORPGS and though we managed to bypass those for most of the first month since release, today it hit us and it hit us hard. The result was either a very bumpy playtime or no playtime at all.

We tried our utmost best to bypass those troubles the whole day long without a real full-fledged downtime, but in the end nothing else could help the troubles that were introduced with today's update. For that we are truly sorry and have organized for all active and open play-accounts to receive a free day of game-time to compensate for the inconveniences caused by the extended downtimes.

We hope you understand that this is not supposed to be a cheap way of buying ourselves out of this situation, but an honest apology to our players for the delay. We hope that in the future we can avoid such troubled times and provide the smoothest gaming service we can deliver to you.

Thank you for understanding,

Seriously, most Publishers these days don't bat an eye over a 5 hour downtime after (more downtime for) patching and some server crashes (which they were fixing during those 5 hours). Rumor has it they're giving everyone a free day in return. And even though I know that's half a dollar or euro per person, it's way more than I've seen any publisher do in similar situations. My hat goes of to Funcom on this one.

Not to forget they basicly owe you aswell, seeing as its starting, any extra Publicity is good, very good, a free day of gaming is for them no real big deal, but for the public its a good ''refund'' for the troubles caused, and doesn't immediately scare away potential/current gamers, and it might persuade potential gamers to get AoC.

Proper Done.

It's so nice to be insane, no one asks you to explain!

Yup. What Funcom did should not be exceptional in theory. It's a reasonable course of action by any logic and I'm glad they see it that way.
But somehow, it is exceptional in practice.

But just saying sorry in an honest format (as opposed to saying-it-in-such-a-way-it-can't-be-read-as-an-admission-of-guilt-by-the-lawyers) gives Funcom a lot of slack with me.

As Maya said- new game, we are just coming up to the end of the first month, alot of people wait before they get that involved to see how the game pans out and get feedback plus it has it's own official forums, not quite as bad as WoW but I wouldn't recommend the AoC forums as a way of getting some objective opinion, the population here may grow as people get tired of the official forum moan fest.

On-topic: great move by Funcom yesterday, a quicker fix than expected and the extra day was a good gesture :)
