Thats right, Diablo III has been announced. Based off the 20 minute gameplay trailer I would say its already rather far along. It will be using battle.net for online play, and battle.net has always been free, I would assume unless they massively change battle.net, Diablo III will be free online play.
Honestly, if this comes out before GW2 and is free to play, I honestly think GW2 will have a VERY difficult time outdoing D3. Sorry, but Diablo II was the best of its time for many many years, Diablo III will likely be even better.

I'd never heard of diablo till today when my friend went all hypo about it's release! I think GW will do fine! Every game has it's moments, it doesn't nesseceraly mean it's going to be the best of it's time this time around. Especially when you've got games like aion and gw2 in the making!!

Yes, but look at Blizzards record. Starcraft, one of the best games in foreign countries even to this date. Diablo/Diablo II, the best games of their time (sold more copies at the time than any other game). World of Warcraft, undoubtadly the greatest MMORPG to date (not saying its better than GW, but it has a lot more players worldwide than GW).
That being said, no doubt D3 will be another record-breaking game from Blizzard....I'm not saying it will be better than GW2, but based off past events, it wouldnt surprise me if it is a LOT more popular than GW2.

Would be fun :)
Also, as a side note, 90% of the people who have been gaming since before the release of D2 (or shortly after), will know of D2 and how popular it was....here we sit 8 years later and its still played quite a bit even with games like GW and WoW.

That looks epic... I've never played any of the series but seeing this... man... I love the style to it, I never really liked the style of WoW due to the imo poor quality graphics but seeing a similar style but with seemingly awesome graphics I love it... Man I want!

The Diablo series has always been a true hack n slash type game, moreso than most other MMOs out there. This is what made it popular and I'm glad to see they stuck to that style with D3.

i don't think it will have a tuff time diablo 3 will prob be like the rest solo and boring were gw2 will have the same fun and have people help u thru the game. I switched to gw after got bores diablo 2 and the same will b4 for dabilo 3.

Were you talking about GW2 or Diablo 3?

I suspect Diablo 3 will be similar in a way, possible to solo but you can join a group if you want.
As for my switching from Diablo 2 to GW yes, I did the same thing after I got bored with Diablo 2, but how long did I play Diablo 2? 5 years. Thats 5 years of playing a single game before I got bored with it, I dont know about you but I have been bored of GW after about 2 years of playing it. The only reason I am playing it again is because I have no other games to play.
Honestly, if GW2 and Diablo 3 came out on the same day, I would buy D3 before GW2. I probably wouldnt have GW2 for a few years depending on how happy D3 makes me.

Just noticed this, but oddly, Diablo II is the EXACT same way. Monsters get stronger when people join the game, weaker when they leave. Sounds to me like GW2 is trying to follow in D2's footsteps when it comes solo vs party :)

I am so wanting to play it now.....i played that game to death and back....and soo many sleepless nights hunting and trying to get them armors....necro, sourcer, warrior...all was cool....but them 3 rocked
And it was so addictive also

Diablo 2 LoD was imo the best mmo to come out EVER. No doubt D3 will be completely awesome. They even made patch 1.12 Recently for d2 to allow us to run without a cd...why they waited 9 years i don't know.. but.. oh well.
Also the original www.diablo3.com was owned by a web forum similar like gameamp or Guru but a while back blizz bought that domain off them, or maybe forced it outta them, further making it suspicious at the time that d3 was comming.
EDIT: Just wattched the gameplay vid, the game mechanics look pretty snazzy, but im worried about the camera angle and praying for WASD key movement...

Dont know why they didnt do the no-cd thing till recently, but when the game came out, the norm of the time was any game that required a CD to install, required a CD to play. It somewhat recently changed to less and less physical cd requirements so they finally did that with an older game.
As for diablo3.com, they offered to buy it but the owner gave it to them. I personally probably woulda sold it to them, but giving it to them for free ensures they cant sue you for the domain or anything and force you to pay the costs.
As for the camera angle and movement, the camera angle is part of the Diablo series, I'm personally glad they went with 3rd person like that. Movement-wise, if the skills are designed in the same way they were in D2, they would have to use point-click for at least the skills. Think about it, a barbarian tactic for PvP in D2 is tri-whirlwind, where you whirlwind in a small triangle around an opponent, it offers the most hits per second of WW and is very hard to escape if the person doing it is good. This type of tactic would be nearly impossible with WASD as you would not be able to select where to "move" to while using the skill. They would have to change any similar skill to have a certain range instead of having a range more or less the size of the screen.
EDIT: On a side note, they COULD do character movement with WASD then leave the mouse for skill usage, but they did say something along the lines that you would be able to play the entire game with just the mouse, which would mean its mouse-movement.
EDIT2: Seems they increased the inventory size quite a bit. I see 10x3 in one tab, with 4 total bag slots. 120 total slots and an item takes only 1 slot (look at how many slots the axes he equipes takes up).

In February-2008 they had almost double(WoW players to GW players), 9-Million to 5-Million in favor of WoW. Their track record speaks for it self imo.

Now that you mention it, i do like that there keeping that camera angle, its practically a diablo trademark, the WASD tho, they really should add it or an auto run because there could be times where you might wanna chill back and move your char that way.

well, there goes my free time.
I was personally wondering if they were going to do a sequel or do a prequel(based off of the Richard Knaak books).
let's face it, with the possible exception of hellgate Blizzard has made nothing but hit after hit after hit.

If by hellgate you mean Hellgate: London, that was not made by Blizzard, that was made by some ex-Blizz employees who started their own company (much like the founders of ArenaNet).

Sounds cool, never played Diablo 2, not even 1, its only since 3 years now since i played my first ever RPG/MMORPG, so i skipped alot of ''classics'', still, if it comes out sooner then GW2 (most likely) im sure as hell gonna try that out.

there was like so much speculation about what it was going to be. (Blizzard posted a Splashscreen everyday with hints to a new game) At a moment it looked like WotLK.

I really hope they put some good effort into a slightly more organized pvp than the old hostile system which could be pretty nasty at times. I also hope for a better system of dividing up drops and more cooperation incorporated than in D2. I'm sure there will be less duping and whatnot as well which was my mane problem with d2, so far D3 looks pretty awesome.

sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere but i dont have time to read it all. is diablo 2 free to play? where can i buy it? i'd like to get a little back history on the game :)
heard alot about it but only got a pc when guildwars came out :)
