Help please?

Well, I just picked up the game, and while it installed, I had a few questions to ask

Is it heavy on your memory?

But more imporatantly, how does race affect gameplay?

I can't chose a class...can someone help me narrow it down? I already did a little bit..so far I have:

Cimerrian Barbarian
Stygian Herald of Xotli
Aqualonian Dark Templar
Aqualonian Conqueror
or a Stygian Assassin.

Can anyone help me decide?

RE: Help please?

Is it heavy on your memory? - Hard drave access is very important due to all the textures being stored there so, yes.

But more imporatantly, how does race affect gameplay? - Race only affects gameplay by what class you can be as that race and where your Home City is.

I can't chose a class...can someone help me narrow it down? I already did a little bit..so far I have:

Cimmerian Barbarian - Very Good

Stygian Herald of Xotli - Good, but a lot of broken feats.

Aquilonian Dark Templar - Don't really die but still not as good a tank as guardian.

Aquilonian Conqueror - This is what I play (lvl 74) decent buffs but definitely need a damage increase.

Stygian Assassin - Never played one but I hear they die very fast but they kill very fast as well. Also I have heard that the stealth skill, Hide, is easy to detect without a really high skill in it.

Hope that info helped. Have fun. BTW If you are US come to the Dagoth PvE server. Main is Coultar.

Hai, im a noob.

It will try to take all of your 2GB minimum RAM and as Furio said Hard-disk access speeds are a big, big factor as with any high-end games. Make sure to defragment your Hard-disk a few times after installation and before playing.

They're cultures :-)

Class choice and where you end up after the trial area. Some dialog options will be flavored to your culture throughout the game. I.e. Cimmerians don't think much of Stygians, civilization and weaklings, Stygians don't think much of anyone or anything.

Cimerrian Barbarian

Decent Melee DPS. You can go all out berserker with a 2-hander or a Reaver with dual-wielding weapons.

or a Stygian Assassin.

Either you or your foe dies within seconds. Who it is depends on who saw whom first. (invest in Hide skill)

All in all I think picking either a Soldier class or the Barbarian is a good first choice as they get you familiar with the system while being reasonably hard to kill throughout the game. Rogues and Spellcasters tend to run into a slight hitch when foes actually start hitting back around level 5-7 :-) Healers are a special breed in this game. Good to play but I wouldn't recommend starting out with one until you've brought another toon to say Level 10 or so first.

Welcome to Hyboria, PanzerEXE! I hope you'll enjoy it as much here as I do.

It supposedly works with 1GB, but you really want at least 2GB. If you are low on memory NPC may take a couple of seconds before you can see them. At which point they might already be attacking you.

Not really. But the way I play the game it affects it enormously. I have an alt from each of the three cultures and they each stick to their homelands. There are enough quests in each zone to keep them busy. The three lands have quite different feels to them so if you don't run around a lot it has some (self imposed) impact.

The starter zone (Tortage) is so brilliant you definitely want to do it a couple of times. So it doesn't really matter what you pick. Just create them all, and get a feel what is the most fun. The Tortage night time story line is very different for each of the four main classes. Well worth playing all four at some point.

RE: Help please?

Ok, thanks.
Will some computers not be able to run it?
I have a stock alienware computer made for gaming..but it's 2 years old. I could run City of Heroes on the highest settings without problems.. should AoC be ok to run on it?

RE: Help please?

To make a long story short, if you can have decent FPS (around 20) in a scene like this, you will probably be allright after a few disk defragmentations (yes that's really that important).

You may also want to look at this performance tweaking thread and read a post or two on these forums where people discuss their meeting the Specs requirements or not.

Here's a thread that's a good example of how wrong expectations of your own rig and/or the game can ruin the experience for you. Don't expect golden mountains, and don't expect a rig that can render a high-reuse of art assets and little bump-mapping game like COX to render a game made 4 years later just as well.

The difference between a game like CoX and a game like AoC is that while the former takes a lot from your Videocard's GPU and memory at highest settings, the latter takes its toll on Virtual memory and disk access speeds in addition to the toll on the video card. Imagine a CoX without the repetitive use of the same tile-sets but more unique ones and more detailed ones and moving ones (CoX environments are very static) and every piece of player clothing being like the newer clothing sets and people's faces not being a picture drawn on a balloon and you'll get an idea.

So in closing, enjoy :-)

a scene like this

I don't play City of Heroes/Villains, but can you please be so kind to describe some of the things we're seeing? Or at the least point out which is your character?
I'd say slip in some acid and then watch that picture again for a few minutes, im pretty sure with all the colors and such it would make one of the best trips ever.
Is all of ''CoH/CoV'' so colorful ?

It's so nice to be insane, no one asks you to explain!

There's three things happening, the main plot (me trying to level), the sub-plot (The Rikti aliens trying to take over Atlas Park) and the comic relief (the spandex-demonette in the far left).

Yes, CoX has lots of warm fuzzy colors. In that way it's like WOW and other cartoon based MMO's and the to be released 18+ months from now Diablo III :-)

RE: Help please?

So Diablo III will be THE pinnacle of funky colors and such?
Will they provide drugs or booze in the CD case when you buy it?
