Mass Effect for PC - Yay or Nay?

So, I'm looking for another game to carry me through the summer and perhaps beyond. I was checking out Mass Effect. I've always liked BioWare (I actually know a couple of people who work for them) and this game has me intrigued, but...

I'd like to get the opinion of the community here. Should I give it a go or should I give it a pass? I am a fan of KotOR and I've heard good things about the style of play being similar. So... thoughts?

make sure that your gfx card supports 3.0 shading and have about 2gb or memory and it should run fine, its a nice looking game, my brother got it and i just havent installed it yet on this computer but ive seen it on his and it looks very nice.

so id say if your computer can handle it then go for it.

RE: Mass Effect for PC - Yay or Nay?

When I had Mass Effect for the 360 I hated it. I don't like 3rd person shooters, and it was confusing for me. I didn't even like making the choices, it was so simple. Top you do the right thing, middle you effect nothing, bottom you do the evil thing.

Maybe its just me, I just really DO not like Mass Effect.

We wonder, "Why?" when we lose friends, and there are never any good answers.

RE: Mass Effect for PC - Yay or Nay?

mass effect wasnt anything special. i love kotar one and two and i like rpgs alot but mass effect bored me terribly. u only have 4 guns to choose from and the decision making is easy and doesnt effect the game alot. the 3rd person shooting didnt bother me cause u could zoom in if u wanted. all in all its not a bad game but for me it was very boring. even though i know kotar campain by heart i would still rather play through it again rather then play mass effect.

Lani and phe have made a lot of SS that give a good impression of the game.

It does requier a lot from your rig though :S

RE: Mass Effect for PC - Yay or Nay?

I'm with mriswith on recommending Age of Conan as a viable alternative while waiting for GW2. As stated it does require alot from your rig but I get a very smooth gameplay experience from an AMD 3ghz, 2 gig RAM (the 2 gig is crucial but now that RAM is half the price it was a year ago that shouldn't be a problem for most) and a gforce 8500gt.

The classes in the game are completely different from other MMOs and require a much more open mind to what each class should do, Necros are all about dps rather than minion tanking or cc and support, I just rolled what I thought was going to be the main healing class (Priest of Mitra) but turns out to be good, if not better at CC and tanking (go figure.....).

Graphics wise its a stunner of a game, the lore has a good base to start from and is extremely well developed. Quests 90% of the time have a real feeling of involvement and again are very well written.

If you read the official forums you'll see nothing but whining about missing content broken this broken that but seriously ignore that...it has problems that any new MMO has but nothing game breaking.

Sorry for being off-topic, I know nothing of Mass Effect as I'm not an FPS fan :)

Not planning on bashing the 360 or nothing, but... personally I think the PC version was just that bith better (driving the MAKO for instance ...).

RE: Mass Effect for PC - Yay or Nay?

Aw i missed this topic for a bit,

If your a fan of KOTOR, you'd like Mass Effect alot, its very good, has a nice storyline like KOTOR, ofcourse, its all more ''space'' based and all that, instead of Jedi Powarz you now have Biotic stuff, but basicly its still the same kind of thing.
Except ofcourse physics are better when you ''throw'' enemies into the air and they lose gravity hehehe.

I'd suggest getting it for the PC, as its been shown the graphics on there are better, plus the game is easier to play using keyboard + mouse, ofcourse, that is A preference.
Mass Effect basicly ''IS'' KOTOR in its own way, once again you do influence your decisions throughout the game, but you don't notice it alot until the grand finalé, that said though, they did make new radical things, for example in one mission you can actually decide to blow your Team mate away, or even go as far as to persuade another one to blow said problem maker away, so either you can let your character shotgun it to death, or let someone shoot him in the back.

I think that they really did their best and improved the general things on the story instead of KOTOR, where if you just got pissed enough with one character they'd still help you out and all that.
Mass Effect is rather easy to understand, the codex you can use throughout the game is barely needed, even for all the back stories, it might sound all mumbo-jumbo technobabble, but when you play it after the first hour, most things become clear as day.

I'd recommend getting this game if you got kicks out of KOTOR 2 and its predeccessor, this is a worthy followup, i myself liked it alot, online RPG's are something different, they still can't entirely touch the single-player aspect.

/agree & /disargee

Gameplay is the same, but this time they had more freedom in developing the story/characters since it's in their own created universe.
And not to forget this a Trilogy, 2 more to go!!

I'll even slap on a 'motivational poster' ;]

First KOTOR3 please.

Also, does the Motivational poster say anything about You and your Signature by chance?

Thanks everyone for your responses!

Maya and EG, you've put a good point forward for AoC, but I'm not sure I'm looking for another MMO. I'm still not satisfied with what I've done in GW. A related question, though, I remember seeing that AoC is a monthly-pay game, right?

As to the rest about Mass Effect - thanks for your comments. Forumite, you have put a convincing case forward.

+cred to all of you!

It does have a monthy-pay. But the first month is free, and if you just play it for that one month (which is about as long as Mass Effect or any other single player game will last you) that is not really a concern.

Phe answered your question Beano =)
First 30 days (when installing the game) are free after entering and cancelling CC info; after that you can choose to buy timecards (€25,- for 60 days which is €5,- cheaper then WoW), cc or automated bankdebit (if thats the correct word; they automatically charge you directly on your account).

But i can tell you; its definately worth trying it out for the first 30 days.

Both can be answered: Moar RuMoRz have stated that BioWare is indeed working on KotoR3. But the RuMoRz also say that it'll be an MMO O_o (just pray it won't be like SW: Galaxy)

I predict that in Spore when venturing in Space we will get planets infested with Walking C*cks (in all shapes and sizes)!!
I urge you for the sake of Spore, when you play, destroy those planets/creature when you see 'em!!

I doubt it, my buddy got his account banned for making an "anatomically correct" creature......Luckily you just have to make a new account to get back on, but you are forgetting something about spore....yes other peoples creations will be downloaded to your game. BUT all it takes is a few reports and they look at a creature and remove it from their database. So chances are anything of the sort will be removed from the game before its sent out to other people.

note to self: Destroy all the planets infested with f*cked up creatures. Also get more cookies, you're out.

(nobody minds this threat being hijacked for the purpose of Spore?)
