Open Office + MS Office dokuments = ?

My mom's got a shop, kinda, and dont want to pay freaking to much for office which btw sucks imo.

I wonder if OPEN OFFICE can open MS Office dokuments.

I think it can, i've used Open Office about a year ago, and back then i could just open MS Word files.

Right-Click Open As

When i open a MS word document with OPEN OFFICE it looks JUST LIKE MS word 2003 (or is it 2002?). Why do people pay for MS word when this is free? :D

basically microsoft has billions of dollars to advertise, and open source (free) software doesn't. that's pretty much all it boils down to, plus the reputation that open source software is very basic and doesn't work properly, which is mostly a load of rubbish these days.

this website has a big list of great open source alternatives to expensive programs

I'd urge anyone to check it out. and open-office is good!

I've used Open Office for years now and it really is worth using, there is absolutely no point in either buying MS Office or breaking the law to get an illegal copy. PCWorld - probably Britain's biggest PC retailer use Open Office rather than pay the ridiculous license fees MS charge to use their product on multiple machines.

Theres no excuse not to get it IMO

Unless of course theres some plugin somewhere for it since it cant handle it on its own. :)

Well, openoffice.org claims to be compatible with office. But if someone is using Office 07 tell them to save it as a Office 03 file. I think it will be compatible then.

I will not be that active in the gameamp community anymore since I really don't play that much games. The only games I play are Regnum Online and Assault Cube. Both Free. Now I am focused in doing linux and server management, so, it has been good. Call me if ya need me 732-668-1280. Thanks!

Thats not my point, I HAVE to use the office 07 format, not allowed to just save it as an office 03 format. So again, unless theres some unseen plugin that makes OpenOffice able to read/write Office 07 documents, its useless to me.

I have some sort of old open office program over on osx that starts up with Wine and apple x11 because its linux i think i dunno, it works perfectly, looks like ms word, id say OpenOffice ftw! I think im gonna download it for Windows now, lol.

Only reason I use MS office is because its the only program I'm aware of that uses its new format (.docx for word), I would love to use a more lightweight program, but again, OpenOffice doesnt support Office 2007 files.

Well admittedly I rarely use docs so that one slipped past me, I hope there will be a fix for that at some point soon...I hate to think that MS has doomed us into using nothing but their product but hey we dont expect anything less from them to try and corner the market by any means necessary, such a shame :(
