What do you guy's think

Well, im going to be starting AoC in the next few days and ive been looking at the different classes, im kind of leaning towards the Tempest of Set, Demonologist or the Ranger.

I was wondering for those who may have played these classes how they play like, any pros/cons for the various classes and any tips they may have for when i roll one.

Any replies would be great :)

RE: What do you guy's think

I'd say bring one of each 'up' through the newbie area Tortage.
This is the most condensed, immersed area of the game as You'll find. Each Archetype (Class Group) follows a slightly different story-line, all of which together form the whole story. So from that perspective, throwing in a Soldier type at some point might be nice.

Now to classes:
I play a Tempest of Set (Lani) and while she's fun in Groups I find she's boring to Solo. You're very hard to kill, but you're just spamming 2-3 skills. That's not really what I play AoC for.

I also have a Demonologist named Nether. She's more evenly fun as solo and grouped. You're pretty squishy and capable of stealing a Guardian's aggro with a vapid smile. It's a fun class. You should not look upon your Demon as a "regular" Pet from GW, CoX or WOW though. See it like a kind of weirdly animated continuous DoT spell that you can set some operational parameters on.

I don't have a Ranger yet, I was going to pick one called Kestrel but she's a Guardian instead. Reason was I already have a Rogue in Suhaya, my Barbarian. Rogues are my favorite Archetype though. The action's furious and in general your battles don't last too long. So you die a lot. That's life :-)
Soldiers are a bit too much plant your feet and shield in the dirt and "Be the Wall", more fun to read about in a Steve Erikson novel than to actually play.

That's just my opinion. Rogues and Sorcerer types are the more involved classes and much fun. Healers tend to be somewhat overpowering in a way that can lead to them being boring. Except for Shaman, that's advanced "HealBot" stuff which explains why it's the least picked class.
Things may change over time though and neither Healers nor Soldiers are dull by any standards, I just prefer short battles over whittling down your foes at leisure these days :-)

Hopes this helps.

RE: What do you guy's think

I am not sure if I am the best person to give advice since I never play a healer, and don't like pet classes much either. Although, as Lani already said, the Demonologist pet is not very pet-ish. But I have already three alts I am actually playing I don't need a fourth one.

I do have a level 30 something ranger. And she is great. She is very gifted both in ranged and melee attacks. Which means she doesn't have to run off for every swordsman that get to close. Of course she ain't a tank, but the damage she does is awesome. There are no real cons to the ranger. It is more a matter of what you like in your toon.

I also play a guardian, which is a pure tank and aggro magnet (unless Lani is around), and a Herald of Xotli. The Herald is a great profession as well. Wielding an enormous sword and putting everything on fire is pure joy.

Not sure if this helps at all. Just try then all out. There is so much cool stuff to do in Tortage that it doesn't hurt at all to do a couple of times over. But for me an MMO is about the story, not about getting to 80 (ASAP).
