Can't connect to the authentication server

Each time that I tried to log in today and last night, the game wouldn't let me log in because it is "Unable to connect to the authentication server." What is going on? I have internet connection, so I know that isn't the problem.

Are any of you having this problem?

maybe their doing another update, they take the patching servers down when they do it and im pretty sure you get that message.

i had the same problem when i installed and went to patch it, thought it was my installation so i uninstalled and reinstalled and the same problem came up, but worked fine later on.

It's the wrong day for them to be bringing down the servers for an update.

Ehm, you're pretty new to the game. Did you manage to log in at any time or not at all? In case of the latter, how is your Firewall doing? Has it been informed of your desire to play AoC?

Yes, I've been able to log in successfully and run the game a few times now. I love it.

Argh.. I'm about to try again.

Well I tried again.. still, no luck.
This is really starting to be a pain.
The worst part is that, from what I've been able to play, this is an amazing game.

I sympathize :-(

It's no fun not being able to get into the game that way.
I still fear it's something client side. I.e. on your end of the line as I didn't see any wholesale "W can't get in" Rants on the US forums. :-/

So, I still say, check your Firewall settings. Been several MS updates recently. Also contact Funcom Support or check the Tech support forums.

I reconfigured my firewall, so that should be fine. I also contacted support, so if they don't reply soon I'm going to reinstall.

You might want to check on that. It's one of those things that can get reset with a Windows update.
I'd really, really like it if you confirmed it's not Firewall/Virusscanner stuff getting in the way by turning those off for a few minutes and trying the game again (after making sure your DEP settings for AoC are good).

If it doesn't work, you know it's not that. If it does, you know it's your security and you can first turn it back on, then figure out what setting it is.

I turned my firewall off and tried to run the game.. still no luck.
Ok, I'll try everything else, but I honestly have no idea what DEP setting are. Haha, like I siad, I'm a newb.

Ok, well that seems to imply your Firewall isn't at issue. Kinda hoping it would be as this means there's some weird esoteric problem going on that will require Funcom Techsupport.

DEP explanation and howto

I don't think reinstalling is the smartest solution. I'd try throwing away (renaming) the config files that have the info on servers et al. Dunno what those are by heart, but it's on the Official Forums somewhere.
