This weekend, Wintersday Priests will open access to the Snowball Arena from Lions Arch, Droknars Forge, Ascalon City, Kamadan and the Great Temple of Balthazar. For those who choose to stay out adventuring instead, there will also be special Wintersday themed item drops from monsters across the land. Wintersday in July will begin at Noon Pacific (-7 GMT) this Friday and last until 11:59 PM Pacific on Sunday, July 20.
Maybe some one could explain why? xD A little early dontcha think?

IMO its a bad sign that there might not be a real wintersday event 2008.

this makes no sense unless they plan 4 the beta of GW2 at the time of the usual wintersday...
Nah, unless they push back the "official" wintersday-day to the beginning of 09 and announce the GW2 beta then.....they already said no GW2 beta in 2008.
EDIT: Ok, this isnt a normal wintersday.....read the time it will last....this friday (18th) to the 20th.....they would not replace the 2008 wintersday with a 2-day wintersday in mid-July......chances are they are running low on weekend event ideas and decided to let it snow in July and have some presents drop.
Or it might be some "early warning signs" of the opening events for GW2 (early meaning they will do stuff like this from now until beta, even if it is still 6+ months away).
its just a play on the christmas in july thing (I think it was a rudolf movie?) because recently there hasn't been much new content so they'd figure they'd do something to hold the players over. Nothing to worry about canceling wintersday in the winter.
i don't care why it's so early but i'm happy :D:D it's the only event game that is fun tbh, except that time were we got to play as those npcs and every1 had same skills ;p

I think that was fun because everything was actually balanced so noone was over powered and stuff...

I do not expect any events to be happening in towns. I think whats going to happen what the deion says. Just those arena's and stuff dropped by monsters.
No new hats, no candy cane weapons.
So I think its going to be a very lame weekend, if your not there for the drops or arena.
A few months ago some players were anouncing an event called "Wintersday in July" Just for fun. They sended all the details To Anet. And they made this event
wonder if collectors for wintersday items will be there too? if so i can stock up on candy canes and spiked eggnog other then doing wintersday past runs.

This is funny Anet is in a lose lose situation. The community complains because there is no origionality in the weekend events, just the same ones over and over again. So they say hey lets have some fun and go with the "Christmas in July" theme. This is not a made up by Anet theme but something that has been around for a while. Now everyone is going to complain about it. Why can't people just take it for what it is, a weekend of snowball fights and special drops. The Guru thread on this is pretty as well.

Im not complaining at all :P Just a bit confused. As for the drops, most likely Candy Canes, Eggnogs, Spiked Eggnogs etc..Just a title boost weekend for me :)
