Air Force Test

My grandpa just sent me this pretty cool little test.

The object of the test is to move the red block around without getting hit by the blue blocks OR touching any of the black walls.

If you can do it for longer than 18 seconds, you're doing amazing. It's been said that the U.S. Air Force uses this to test fighter pilots. They're expected to go on for 2 minutes.

Give it a try, and enjoy! ^^ Post your times!

Edit: The most I've been able to get so far is 16 seconds...it's addicting...

RE: Air Force Test

I could believe they could use they ni training or testing. Think about it, this is designed to make you use of both your reaction time and your spacial awareness. You not oly have to dodge what is coming at you but react to the other ones that are not. When you think about what a radar screen looks like you would have to be able to analyze and react quickly in a fight

I highly doubt its used for training/testing......For one, any training tests used by the air force would not be publicly released. Secondly, I'm sure if they do have something like this, its not going to be a java game like this. If they require something like this, they would just use a flight simulator, thats what there there for, why not use them?

Also, the more modern fighters are much more advanced than this....I could understand using it for situational awareness, but it wouldnt translate into a modern aircrafts systems that are being used today....they are simply much more advanced than this.

A whopping 14 seconds.

Believe it or not, simple things as this are used for training as well as testing. I have a really good friend (I have known since childhood) that is on his second tour of Iraq and some of the test/training he had I could not believe my self. Granted this in only a small portion of the testing/training. Much more advanced simulation/testing is the majority of what is used.

Maybe so, but this is still not an air force test: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escapa_(game)

QUOTE
The game claims that Air Force pilots (Australian, British, Russian or American, depending on the source) are forced to reach two minutes, to train their hand-eye coordination. However, this rumor is apparently false, as the blue blocks increase their speed regularly, maxing out (after about half a minute) at a speed too fast for most human reflexes.[1] Unofficial Escapa competitions—usually initiated by a challenge to match a high score—are occasionally held, mainly on gaming or technology forums, and very few honest people survive for even a minute.[3][4] However, the exact speed of the game, and thus its relative ease, does depend on the capabilities of the computer running it.

However, this rumor is apparently false

Does not really matter, might as well be as some of the "test" they do, are much simpler and less complex. Not to mention, all that says is that it is "apparently" false.

Yes, "Apparently" false, you know why? Read the source: http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=22601

First off, it's a Spanish game - hence the name Escapa (it's also called Aguanta on a few sites). http://www.xeron.org/cosas/escapa.htm is credited as the original source, but Xeron.org seems to have taken it down.

Second, long before 2 minutes, the game will exceed the capabilities of your monitor, let alone your reflexes. To demonstrate, lose on purpose, but hold the mouse button down when the game tells you your time. The blue squares will keep going, and you can watch them accellerate. At the 2 minute mark, they're jumping more than half the width of the game area in the refresh time of my monitor. Depending on your monitor and CPU, the game will boil down to luck in 30-40 seconds and simply become impossible in short order from there.

Basically, before it gets to the 2 minute mark that "the air force uses to test pilots"....it becomes literally impossible as it becomes so fast your monitor cannot refresh fast enough to display its movement properly. So from a technological standpoint, it would be impossible for someone to go for 2 minutes as after a certain point they will not even see the blocks move inbetween a few spots.

For instance, lets say you have 3 points.....A, B and C.......your block is in point B. The object is moving from A to C. It moves so fast you dont see the block move, you just see it at point A, then right after its at point C. You do not know where its moving until it gets there, you do not know its moving towards your block until it has already passed through your block.

So again, its literally impossible to keep up with the speed of the game, even before it reaches the 2 minute mark.

EDIT: Ok, figured out a way you can see how fast it goes......lose on purpose, now hit ok on the box and STOP the page from auto-reloading before it starts to refresh the page. In Opera, you can simply hit escape as soon as it attempts to auto-refresh. Now you can watch how fast the go without having to play it. About a minute in, they max out and no longer speed up, look how fast they are going, you can barely even see them......its so quick there is nearly no open space for your block to sit for more than half a second. Pilot or not, the human body is incapable to seeing something that fast and reacting to it.
