Playing as my Necro on the Factions campaign...
Usually when I make a character, I do ALL of the "talk to so-and-so master of such-and-such profession", talking to each person. this generally gets me to level 10 before I even choose my secondary profession. After I did all of these missions, I went to the general guy to get my 7 rewards of 600xp each :D from doing all of the missions, and as I am absently clicking "accept", I wasn't paying attention and I accidentally clicked Ritualist for my secondary profession, because it was right where the "accept" button was. I hadn't really decided on a secondary, so i'm not like "oh, I wish I had chosen ____", I just need some advice.
I've never played a ritualist before. How can I make the best of my now-level 12 N/Rit?
Can someone please explain the ritualist skills that are called " was "? I'm not quite sure how they work.
thanks!

the 'was' skills are basically item skills. meaning you will hold the ashes of that person mentioned. while you hold thses items your wepon and the stats of that weapon will no longer be in effect. but of course, holding those ashes will give you buffs and for the duration your holding, or have after effects once you drop them...
heres a few examples
Vengeful Was Khanei
Anguished Was Lingwah
Lively Was Naomei
There are a few good combos for n/rt's to run... such as this one, splinter anything is always pretty fun.
Splinter Bomb

If it was me i would use resto and communing skills n/rt healer and MM builds it will be really easy for you to get in groups for the 1st few missions once on the main land and if you haven't died you can get survivor title. I had a rt/n r2 in that title was mm then switched to healer what ever the group needed.

thanks for all the info! the concise deions of the item spells are misleading, especially since i had never encountered them before. can you still attack/use spells when using an item spell? some of them reduce damage or steal health, but some don't protect you at all.

you cant use your weapon or any physical attacks when you're holding an item but you can still cast spells and use binding rituals and whatnot

You also don't have to use your secondary profession's skills if you don't want to, play as just a necro.
In fact, I often use only my primary profession's skills, or, of the 8 skills on the skill bar, use only a few of them 90% of the time.
You don't have to be "stuck" because you accidently became a necro/rit.

I see many here suggesting to use Spawning Power skills, which is wrong, since Spawning is Ritualists primary attribute, and you can't put attributes in it. Some might be a little useful without points, but most just waste of skillslots. So I'm suggesting you use basically only necro skills, and maybe Flesh Of My Flesh and Splinter weapon.
Flesh Of My Flesh provides a hard res, and its a good combat-res, if you're not targeted.
Splinter Weapon provides insane amount of dmg on physical attackers (esp. Dervishes).
I would probably use Curses line with Spiteful Spirit, and other curses skills, with those Rit skills I just mentioned.

You can always change it after you ascend, or what it is called in factions.

N/Rt Healer
I use a variant of that, using vengeful weapon for optional and replaced spirit light with soothing memories, Then I didn't like the rez so I replaced it for Lively Was Naomei. Since I believe the item spell can be used even in Frozen Soil spirit range.
I have had success with it so far.
Woof!

so far i am liking the ritualist skills and may make some more /Rt characters. another question, though: can you use multiple Item spells at a time?

No you cannot. When you are holding an item and you use another item spell, you drop the previous item, and you hold the new one instead. Basically you can only hold one item at a time. At least, that's what I think happens...I'm not 100% sure :S
Edit: I did the same thing too, on my 2nd assassin, mindlessly clicking on the "Accept" button and then accidentally picking Monk as a secondary...XD

Yes you can use them at the same time, but you will only be able to hold one at the time. So if you already hold an item and use another you will only be able to hold the one you just used.
Edit: To slow!
