| i got factions the other day and... |

hi, i got factions about a week ago off a freind who bought it an then realises that his p.c wouldnt run it and that the guy from ebay wouldnt take it back. so, i installed the game and selected the most visualy pleasing character (female mesmer). im now very much stuck, iv got as far as the mainland but my level/skills/powers/whatever are such as i cant go into any exsporable areas for more than a few minuets without getting killed(and then because of the death penalty i die again within about 4 seconds of being revived) any idea what i can do?
im also very confused by the fact that there are no markers on the minimap for quests and traders... i mean WTF!?!?! am i suposed to take to every single npc in the whole game and then remember where all the differnt ones are!? how do you guys manage and is there a system where your lvl affects what clothing armour you can wear?
i also cant play PvP because i cant get past the lill quest it makes you do to teach you all the stuff.... :( is this game realy such a dud or have i missed somthing?

anyone who has a quest has a ! over their head. it's big and green, if you can't see it you need to see an eye doctor.

Are you trying to solo the areas? you will have to take along either a party of 8 real people; or take along 7 hench in order to succesfully pass the quests and areas.

You will remember where the merchants and cush are in time =) we all learned by heart. As for quests; its easy to miss a few; but if you thouroughly explore; you will find a lot of them =)

No. You just buy maxed armor at one time (mesmer is 60 AI)

For pvp there are some criteria:
1) you have to be level 20
2) in order to play pvp descently: have all skills inlocked.
PvP should not be accesible through a quest; open your map and travel to the battle islands to great temple of balthazar. Random arenas should be open for you to play if you are level 20.

yeah im soloing with 7 hench, hence why im revived so often but it usualy goes like this. the path ahead is blocked, i get about 2 spells off before i die (1 of those being to heal) then i get revived and take so much damage so fast that by the time my energy has charged enough to so anything im dead again. repeat.
what i ment about pvp was i made a pvp only char but cant get past the instructional tutorial

Well, Factions probably isnt the best game to start with until you get to know the game better. Since it takes you from lower level enemies to lvl 20's and above. Guild Wars is pretty easy to learn how to play though. You can add me too, if you'd like.

ok, i noticed you said you have a mesmer(and a hottie one at that), and your second skill before you die is a heal skill? the only thoughts coming to my mind is either your skills/attributes/weapons could use some fine-tuning, or you may be needing a more balanced mix of henchmen. Once you get to the mainland, your foes are numerous and ready to spike you hard if you're not ready for them. the mainland area has the added problem of being a very tight area, where it is very easy to get confused of where to go and how to get there. use the "u" button to open the local map so you can see where you are and where you have been to keep down the confusion. And don't forget to go slow and watch your aggro circle on your compass, this tells you if the bad guys see you or not. start planning to stop just outside range and begin using your skills against them.
as far as henchmen, my PERSONAL opinion is that you should have at least 2 healers every time you go out. you should also take a mix of melee, ranged, and elemental damage dealers so you will be able to put pressure on your emnemies. now, as for armor, the Kaineg center area has maxed level armor and weapons for sale. there is NO reason not having maxed armor, not even poverty is a good reason. just farm on shing jae island to get the cash up to it. there are three different sets, pick what you can afford, you can always get prettier armor later. same for weapons.
as for skills, you may want to go looking at various masmer builds here on GA and see which skills they have and how they work together.
