Get a bat. Hop on the blimp outside of Orgimar and go to Undercity. There are several outside and there is even a rare spawn bat that I got that is partially white. I also have a black widow looking spider that you can find in a cave east of Undercity. There is also shinny looking scorpions just north of the great lift in the Barrens. Aligators are cool. Travel east of Crossroads to Ratchet and go north for one. Turtels are great tanks. There are several just southwest of crossroads.

The Rake, lvl 12ish lion on the east side of thunder bluff...he's elite so be careful if you tame him.

A very popular hunters pet is King Bangalash who can be found in stranglethorn vale just south of Grom'gol. His attack speek is pretty supreme, apart from that he looks pretty awesome too ;)

So I've recently rolled a night elf hunter and I was wondering what kind of pet suggestions you all have for him? currently lvl 16.

The rake is a rare spawn, not an elite. He has 1.2 atk speed, which is great for tearing apart squishies. Best atk speed at his lvl. All pets are cool, there is echayakee and humar, white and black lions which look nice, not as fast as the rake, which translates into more dps.
I dueled a hunter friend who was a lower level and i had the rake, he had a boar. Surprisingly the boar was really good and he beat me numerous times. The boar comes with some sort of charge talent which owned me.
what i'm saying is that all pets are good, and are good for different things.
http://www.goodintentionsguild.info/hunters.html is a great site for hunter info. The table to the left is great under hunters.

At lvl 23+, a good pet would be a gator like I have in the game. Crockalisk to be specific, around Wetlands area. They are a good pet for you to have them use growl so they take all the heat (Which they can with high def and HP), and you can fire away at the enemy.

I recommend skilling your Ranged abilities first. Survival skills are not that useful/necessary. What you wanna do is get wyvern sting and aimed shot asap, great abilities they are. Once you maxed out your marksmanship skills id recommend skilling your pet, especially the armor and hp skills.
but hey, if u want a melee hunter then thats upto you!
Also remember its always worth it to invest into a better gun, aswell as a scope! scopes are awesome.

Good god no... Beast spec at low level. And forget Wyvern Sting. Trueshot aura is best. Best spec at low level ensures your pet will hold agro. I went mark spec from the start, and I steal mobs from my pet so much that I constantly have to Scatter Shot, Disengage, and Feign Death. This is my build: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classe...040000000000000
It's very hard to spec this from the beginning. You really want your pet to deal damage, so Unleashed Fury and Furocity are key to early level agro control.

Trueshot owns.
And actually, if you arn't thinking about doing a mad PvP running throuhout the world at mid levels, You really don't need Survial Talents. Your pet should hold most things, and you range is good as anything to win.
And even though I'm doing a little bit of PvP, this is what I was going at.
This is a link!

I have a 60 hunter toon who is now marksman spec'd. Trueshot along with aimed shot owns! While I was getting up to 60, I was beast spec'd which is great for soloing thru the levels. The pet holds all the aggro with growl and intimidation rulez in pvp to take out the squishies.
This is my current build
With this build I rule in pvp, at least against the squishies (which really isn't hard). I regularly do 1.5-2.4k crits with aimed shots and can take down squishies in two shots! I find that I can even take down warriors in melee if they have already lost at least half of their hp.
For pets, the most important rule in the lower levels is to always have enough food for your pet to always keep it happy. It does the most damage and gains the most loyalty that way. I found that wolves are great pets in the 20s through to 30s because they also have furious howl that increases your damage.

I wished I had known about The Rake when I first started playing. I really like the skin. But I really don't wanna put in the time to lvl him to 60.
At 37 I did manage to locate and tame Broken Tooth. Very good pet to have. The 1.0 attack is nice for casters and a 31 BM humter it goes to .7.
Personally I like the cats. I'd get The Rake at 10 then get BT at 37. I am currently looking for Deathmaw for the Furious Howl buff. Pain in the butt to find but will be worth it once I can grab him.

They're called Nigthsabres and they're tameable but I'm not sure if there's any of them outside the NE areas.
