| Good Ranger Secondary Profession? |
|
|
|
I've been thinking of making a ranger now but i'm not quite sure on what secondary class i should take for him. So if anyone has some thoughts, suggestions, or experiences to share it'd be much appreciated.

I would go with a monk.. Healing hands an ressurect is a MUST being a ranged class. :)

The crappy part of a ranger is that it swallows 2 skills to get an animal. Charm for having it with you en comfort for healing and ressurecting. If you want to make a 50/50 character you only got 2 skills for ranger left. Troll unguent is a very good skill, but it isnt offencive. that means you got only 1 skill left. I should take a class with good offencive skills like a elementalist. So you can do a little bit of damage

Sjaak --> Meleandru's Stalker lvl 16
Kitabatake Tomomori --> Ran lvl 5

I have an R/E and enjoy the AoE skills you can obtain with the ele skills. Works nicely in a party to add on the damage when the enemies are huddled around the warriors.

Just made a Ran/Mes. Mesmer is i good class. He got Backfire, a must to shut down monks. Also conjure phatasm is very good with low lvl monsters. For instance, i can 1 hit ko a lvl 0-1 monster with conjure. Its very kewl to see those deceased devourers die in under 1 second. Definately worth a try.

I agree a Ranger/Elementalist or Ranger/Mesmer are awesome classes for the soul reason of the offensive spells a Ranger Elementalist that concentraits on Wind Elemental magic is a Dangerous Foe. Elementalists/Mesmer is perfect for ragners because of the Slow type spells and has plenty to offer

a Ranger Elementalist is good for the fact that it can use a fiery bow string, and then conjure flame, kindle arrows, and duel shot
Conjrue Flame: Lose all enchantments. For 60 seconds, while wielding a fire weapon, your attacks strike for an additional 1-13 fire damage.
Kindle Arrows: For 24 seconds, your arrows deal an additional 3-20 Fire damage.
Dual Shot: Shoot two arrows at target foe. These arrows deal 25% less damage than normal.
with this the conjrue flame and kindle doubles so its 26+40+2x-25% which x is for arrow damage. so you will be really shooting for about 100damage.
not a bad strategy for a ranger

Its also good for ranger/elementalist to have some offencive skills. I shall add glyph of lesser energy thats a skill that 15 mp skills only cost 5 mp. Troll unguent, i miss a serious healing skill and troll unguent is a good skill. And a mob/damage skill like phoenix or meteor rain.

Swamp Fox's combo is an awesome one.
I also play Ranger/Elementalist, and I love using a preparation and Dual Shot, but I also love ranged AoE from the Elementalist side of things. Unfortunately, I find that between Dual Shot, whatever Preparation I'm using at the time, Troll Unguent, and two skill slots for my pet, I only have 2 skill slots left for Elementalist spells.
If you want to have a pet and do good arrow damage, keep in mind that you'll only have a couple slots for whatever sub class you decide on.

if it was for pvp you could always remove the pet rez spell since pets arent too high on the "lets kill it now" list. but revive is always ncie for pve. so you could just have charm animal for pvp, and put on rez for pve

i think it would be a good idea to be a ranger/mesmer because mesmer has burden which slows the enemy right down and you can shoot at him while hes slowy making his way towards you!

burden has a somewhat lengthy cast time, and in pve or pvp they usually grp damage to 1 person till its dead. then move on. so if ur burdened someone, you couldn't slow down the 3 other people making their way to kill you.
i would suggest bard trap (also does bleeding) or pin down, since it would still go with your marksmanship skill

i will say a mesmer... monk is really not neccessary when you can use troll U. to get health regen of +9-10... R/ME are deadly in PVP and still do quite well in PVE
